“I don’t think we had a good reason to do this,” said Commissioner Omari Hardy. “I think this gave the city an unnecessary black eye."

During the time I was there last night, which was through Presentations B...discussion of Resolution 34-2012 on Net Metering, (had to get home to see debates), Commissioner Omari Hardy was on his A game. He usually is. He made a motion to move the item to New Business as it was on an important item and he wanted the public to be able to weigh in (no public discussion is allowed under presentations).

The vote was 2/2 and therefore the motion failed. Two of the Trio blocked Hardy from moving it on the Agenda most likely because the city manager was the one who placed it under Presentations. And, they like to stop Hardy's argument at every chance. Mayor Pam Triolo was absent and Vice Mayor Andy Amoroso chaired the meeting. As Commissioner Hardy said, the Resolution was not even in their backup. How do you discuss a resolution when you have no idea what it says?

Ed Liberty, Electric Utility Director, gave an update for the 3rd quarter and discussed Net Metering. There were many residents in the chamber who spoke to the issue, mentioning that we are a "progressive" city and suggesting some of the city's policies are regressive as far as solar.

The Left wants to ban "assault" weapons in Florida

Ballot Language Defective for Assault Weapon Ban

They are trying to get it on the ballot for 2020.

But the Attorney General says, "Hey, wait a minute," arguing the proposed ballot language is “clearly and conclusively defective,” she wants the Florida Supreme Court to block a proposed constitutional amendment that seeks to prevent possession of assault weapons. Ashley Moody was a Democrat before she became a Republican in 1998. She WalkedAway.

But it doesn't matter her party registration...Democrats are calling this some political move by the Attorney General. No surprise. They would rather throw stones than solve the problem. Just change the ballot language.

The amendment would bar possession of assault weapons, though it includes exceptions such as for military or law-enforcement use. Commissioner Herman Robinson will love this one if it gets on the ballot as will all Democrats. Robinson was the catalyst behind the Gun Show ending in Lake Worth.

And I honestly believe this one could pass in Florida as Democrats don't like the 2nd Amendment and they still believe that the AR-15-style rifles are “assault weapons”--they are not and would not qualify for this anti-assault weapon ballot. Source:  Sunshine State News

Lake Worth wants to yank out our Pool

Well, we knew that.

Lake Worth Beach city officials say they're still working on plans for new public pool

The city has a hell of a nerve if you think about it. They closed this pool years ago, drained the water out of it and allowed the elements to rapidly deteriorate the structure causing out of control damage. That was irresponsible.

City Manager Bornstein, who runs the show and all the decisions that affect the lives of Lake Worth residents says, "The city hired a consultant, CPZ Architects, to create renderings of a future facility. Depending on when and if one of the plans is selected, the price-tag ranges between $10 and $60-million." And there are some on the dais that don't want a pool built at all.

The commission meeting addressing this very important subject as well as your money (even if it is sales tax money) will be on the Agenda on August 19. This decision should not be up to three commissioners under the thumb of the city manager.

• Bringing, or attempting to bring, someone to the U.S. outside of a designated point-of-entry, despite knowing that person is an alien.

• Transporting, moving, or attempting to transport or move someone who you know has entered the U.S. illegally, or who you should know has entered the country illegally.

• Concealing, harboring, or shielding an alien from detection, or attempting to shield an alien from detection, in a building or any vehicle despite knowing the alien entered the country in violation of U.S. immigration laws.

• Encouraging an alien to come to the U.S. or to reside in the U.S. despite knowing this will be a violation of the law.

Aiding or abetting any of these actions, or engaging in a conspiracy to commit any of these actions, can also result in criminal charges for harboring.

So, has any group(s) in our own city broken federal law?

When this commission voted to become a "Welcoming City," it automatically encouraged illegal aliens. Now, not only are we printing information in English, but we are printing in Spanish and Creole. That is definitely "welcoming" and encouraging.

On Thursday, CNN announced the lineup for each night of the second presidential primary debate in Detroit, Michigan. To avoid one debate being labeled an undercard event, CNN used a random drawing to distribute the 20 presidential candidates that qualified across the two debate nights.

• Here are the candidates for Tuesday, July 30: Steve Bullock, Pete Buttigieg, John Delaney, John Hickenlooper, Amy Klobuchar, Beto O'Rourke, Tim Ryan, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Marianne Williamson.

Several items of interest are on the Consent Agenda:

• For years and back in the Becky Mattey days when she was our Utility Director (she gave notice in 2011), we have been talking about and all concur, that Lake Worth needs a 2nd tie-land. Back at the end of 2018, the city commission agreed. An RFP was generated and the Wantman Group was chosen to do the survey. According to the city, the preferred option is to follow the same path as the existing tie-line, Hypoluxo to the Main Tie-Line. Design services will be done by Subsurface Utility engineering Services at a cost not to exceed $89,650.

• Power Engineers will provide engineering services design concept for the new underground 138kv tie-line, cost not to exceed $551,278.

• FMPA is requesting an additional $80,000 for call services for 4 months, June through September. We exited FMPA at the end of 2013 but we are still a part of the contract with them that gives us Call Center Support Services. Also, our Solar Power Sales Contract with FMPA deliveries begin June 2020. I'm assuming that's still in effect.

• There will be an update on the 3rd quarter as well as discussion on Resolution 34-2012 Net Metering.

Lake Worth and Solar Energy

Lots of talk about solar in Lake Worth and many residents spoke to it at the last regular commission meeting.

Ten years ago, Mark Parrilla and his partner installed solar at their house on South A Street. They believed that it would be paying for itself in just a few years. The solar installation was $55,074 not including the rebate from the State for $20,000 and the 30% tax credit they  received from the federal government on the original cost.

The Electric Utility Advisory Board could not meet recently as there was no quorum. Peggy Fisher, a prominent member of this Board, resigned last month.because of lack of support by Staff and their decisions bypassing the Board.

It's Mueller Time this Morning

Mueller Makes Last-Minute Request Ahead Of Testimony

This morning, beginning at 8:30am, we will get to hear Robert Mueller answer questions before the House Judiciary Committee for three hours and beginning at Noon, the House Intelligence Committee for two hours. All Democrats will be there in baited breath in what one described as the most anticipated congressional meeting for the year. They are waiting for something out of Mueller's mouth that will condemn the President once and for all so that they can proceed with impeachment.

It was also reported last night that Robert Mueller has requested that the committees allow Aaron Zebley, a Never Trumper attorney who served as deputy on the special counsel’s probe, be sworn in as a witness in order to address any questions that he is not able to answer. Nadler approved of the request. The President did not. Doesn't Mueller have the answers after 22 months after an indepth investigation?

Mueller will be asked about Trump's collusion with Russia (the original directive of the mueller Committee) as well as if Trump tried to obstruct justice. They don't care about the fact the President DID NOT obstruct justice, only if he attempted to.

So, the Witch Hunt continues.

‘Substantial Evidence’ Trump ‘Guilty’ of Crimes Ahead of Mueller Hearing says Nadler

"Guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors," says Nadler who is the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, who accused President Trump on Fox News Sunday this week. In his eyes Trump’s "infractions" meet the standard of impeachment.

This will probably be the most watched television in the last two years just to learn, once again, that there was no collusion, no obstruction of justice. Just because the president might have said, "Can we get rid of Mueller?" is not obstruction...it's not an "infraction." What it is--wishful thinking to twist the facts by Nadler and his fellow Democrats.

Nothing was done or acted upon by the Trump administration to get rid of Mueller or shut down the investigation that was from from May 2017 to March 2019. President Trump's White House gave investigators thousands of pages of documents, his attorney testified for 30 hours and  the President answered a detailed questionnaire. The investigation went on for 2 years.

Congress has spent small fortunes to "get" the president. Democrats did not succeed with the evidence provided by the Mueller Report, This is all nasty politics for the hope and possibility by the Democrats of damaging the President further for his re-election.

The commission will not, however, have a recommendation of support from the city’s planning and zoning board."

Commission Work Session

City Commission work Session on adding items to the Agenda

Gosh, we have to have a separate meeting in order to give the city manager direction on how Commissioners add items to the Agenda. The city manager wants to understand why commissioners want to include items on the agenda for discussion or vote. The only thing that has to be understood here is that the Commissioners are the bosses.

What this is about is shutting down Commissioner Hardy. All the rest of the reasons such as the existing workflow, staff schedules, existing work plan efforts and financial impacts are just excuses. I would guess that all the time expended to Hardy's folly of ADU's drove them all stark raving nuts at City Hall.

I agree that Commissioner Hardy trying to push through an Ordinance on ADU's while two commissioners were out of town on business (a meeting that was planned one year in advance) was a sneaky way (and can I say "unethical?") to try and get something passed. He knew he had one other vote with Herman Robinson. What he didn't know was that Commissioner Maxwell was one step ahead of him by informing him that he needed a quorum of three to go forward.

We will see the majority commission crack down on placing items on the agenda without the city manager's approval. Why not?...they have abrogated everything else to him. And one more thing-- these one on one manipulatory meetings between Commissioners and the City Manager need to stop or be recorded as a public record.

Tomorrow night,  July 23 at 6pm, there will be discussion on this.
