One of the homosexual movement’s greatest successes was making it
illegal for straight folks, primarily Christians, to adhere to anti-gay
convictions.
Now, a federal court is taking away that success by permitting businesses to deny service to gay couples.

The U.S. Court of Appeals, 5th circuit struck down a district
court’s injunction against the law, which now allows business owners to
refuse to serve gay, lesbian, or transgender couples on grounds of
religious objection and also permits clerks to refuse to issue marriage
licenses to LGBT couples.
Foster care and adoption agencies can also choose to reject potential LGBT parents under this law, according to an AP report.
The court’s decision is a big win for the protection of religious
liberties, according to Kevin Theriot, attorney with Alliance Defending
Freedom, which helped write the bill.
Some argue that turning away homosexuals makes it more difficult to be a positive witness to them.
But most would agree that the law must not force Americans to participate in a movement or lifestyle with which they disagree.

The Criminalization of Christianity?
In a land founded on the principle of these “self-evident” truths –
“that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator
with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and
the pursuit of Happiness,” that being the very purpose of the
institution of government, elected and appointed officials are
intimidating and, yes, persecuting those simply practicing their

West Palm Beach puts demands on companies wanting to do business with the city

West Palm Beach commissioners voted 3-2 at Monday’s regular meeting to approve on first reading a rule that the city will make contracts worth more than $50,000 only with people or businesses that provide equal benefits to employees’ domestic partners.
Commissioners Kimberly Mitchell and Shanon Materio were opposed--a good decision.

Because of all her recent inflammatory comments, I have to admit that I was offended when Obama awarded her the Medal of Freedom yesterday which is the highest civilian award in the United States. It recognizes those individuals who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors."
Oprah is a billionaire, thanks in part to all of us older white people who supported her throughout her career, loved her, admired her and appreciated who she was and what she had attained through hard work and determination. Her skin color was never a consideration. No one thought about that. It was the person and that's how it is in America today. But sadly we discovered that she has her own prejudices and demons that sill linger. She believes that all of us folks who are not embracing Obama because of the direction he is taking our country should die. We shouldn't have a voice because in her eyes, she has given us all the label of "racist."
There has been an "Oprah effect" when it comes to social issues and policy in our country. She came out over 25 years ago defending gays. Her friend, Barack Obama, on the other hand was against gay marriage before he was for it. She even influenced the most powerful man on Earth. I guess she deserved that Medal of Freedom after all.

John Kranert, above, was arrested during our 2009 Gay Pride Parade for what he says was a violation of his First Amendment rights. The sheriff says he was disorderly for preaching against homosexuality. Kranert won that one as charges were later dismissed. Now he is suing the PBSO.
This gentleman stood on the corner of Lake Avenue and Toojays with his Are You Ready sign during the 2012 Gay Pride Parade. He didn't bother anyone--just stood there with his sign handing out literature to anyone who asked.

Christianity is, I believe, about expanded life, heightened consciousness and achieving a new humanity. It is not about closed minds, supernatural interventions, a fallen creation, guilt, original sin or divine rescue. I am tired of seeing the Bible being used, as it has been throughout history, to legitimize slavery and segregation, to subdue women, to punish homosexuals, to justify war and to oppose family planning and birth control. That is a travesty which must be challenged and changed.

Gay Marriage banned in North Carolina

While the country is about evenly split on gay marriage in polls, supporters have yet to succeed at the ballot box. Statewide ballot measures on gay marriage have come up 31 times since 1998. Advocates for gay marriage lost each time. Yesterday, North Carolina voters banned gay marriage. Read the rest of the story at the Washington Post.
Will Gay Marriage haunt Obama in November?
In the deeply religious sections of our country you find people who firmly believe that marriage between two of the same sex is a sin. In North Carolina, Baptists remain the largest church in the state. I married a Baptist once and they don't even believe in dancing! More Democrats believe in same sex marriage than do Republicans. More and more of the younger population are not as easily influenced by what is taught in church, if they even bother to attend. They have become much more tolerant and are part of the latest Gallup Poll taken this month that showed plurality support for same-sex marriage nationwide, with 50% in favor and 48% opposed.

"It has been noted that the biggest factor in the growth of support for same sex marriage and civil unions has been driven by younger Americans, including some young conservatives, who are far more favorably inclined to both civil unions and same sex marriage than seniors." Source: Wikipedia.
So, some of you will just have to wait until the older generation dies off and teachings of the church become more tolerant on this issue. I believe that attitude will change in my lifetime.
