Helicopter crash in Key Biscayne

Helicopter goes down off Key Biscayne, killing 1 and injuring 2 days after Palm Beach plane crash

One person died and two were hurt when a helicopter crashed into the ocean off Key Biscayne Wednesday, days after a deadly Palm Beach plane crash.

Three people were aboard the aircraft when it went down at 11:26 a.m. near Bill Baggs State Park, off the barrier island by Miami. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating. The cause was not immediately known.

Local station WSVN identified the helicopter as a Robinson R44. Paramedics took the two survivors to a hospital for a “higher level of care.” Their conditions were not released. As the New York Post reported, US Coast Guard Southeast posted a Wednesday afternoon update on the toll.

"1 person is reported deceased & 2 people were transported by EMS." South Florida runs on tourism, coastal living, and busy small aircraft traffic. When a helicopter drops into the water beside a state park in midday hours, people notice. They also notice when it follows another deadly crash by only a few days.
