Announced by the Florida Fish & Wildlife commission, this is Florida's first Gopher Tortoise Day and we have plenty of them at John Prince Park.
The majority of the remaining gopher tortoises are in the state of Florida where the population was estimated in 2003 to be under 800,000. Thanks to development, they are now in steep decline. This is their mating season.
