Tuesday night, the city gave a proclamation for World Aids Day.

World AIDS Day takes place on the 1st December each year. It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. Founded in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day.

Lake Worth has a substantial percentage of LGBTQ who live here and even has a parade every year, Pride Fest, that features the gay, lesbian population. Lake Worth has a facility, Compass, that brings awareness and help to the gay community. Because of this large gay population, it can effect change in policy.

As if we don't know it, Commissioner Andy Amoroso constantly brings up that he is Gay at almost every public meeting. Two years ago, he and a former commission voted unanimously to ban the practice of conversion therapy on children throughout the city that went into effect on January 20, 2017.

Now he is upset that the Census, that will take place in 2020, left off the count for the LGBTQ community in the final form that was printed and distributed. No previous U.S. Census has ever included LGBTQ Americans. How ridiculous can this get? Count heterosexuals and bi-sexuals too? He wants to be counted like a person of a particular race.

I was told that it was Amoroso who put this Community ID program on the agenda, who packed the chamber with die-hard liberals for illegals and who advocated and voted for a Community ID that basically is for the protection of illegal aliens.

I can well understand having pride in who you are but publicly supporting people who have broken our laws is irresponsible for an elected official as illegal immigration affects all facets of society. In Lake Worth we have the cost of education with some school children not knowing any English, printing in Spanish and Creole, healthcare, public benefits, safety and security.

HIV Testing Day

At Tuesday might's commission meeting there will be proclamation declaring Jun 27, 2017 as HIV Testing Day.

According to the SunSentinel, Lake Worth is the city with the highest percentage of same-sex households in all of Florida. About 250 households, or 1.9%.  I thought the gay population was much higher in Lake Worth.


As 1.1 million people in the US are living with HIV, and 1 in 7 of them don't know it, the city of Lake Worth urges all residents of the city of Lake Worth, Florida, to be tested for HIV to know his/her status and to take part in other activities and observances designed to increase awareness and understanding of HIV/AIDS.

Obama has committed more taxpayer dollars to his home country, Kenya

The Obama administration is seeking to infuse another $306 million into HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention programs solely for the African nation of Kenya, where men who have sex with men, female sex workers and people who inject drugs “are considered key populations for intervention.”

Kenya has the joint fourth-largest HIV epidemic in the world (alongside Mozambique and Uganda) in terms of the number of people living with HIV, which was 1.5 million people in 2015. Roughly 36,000 people died from AIDS-related illnesses in the same year, although this figure is steadily declining from its total of 51,000 in 2010.1 There are now 660,000 children orphaned by AIDS, acording to Avert.org

Tonight, the Lake Worth City Commission is giving a proclamation recognizing that June 27, 2016 is National HIV Testing Day. This day was established as an annual observance to promote HIV testing. The theme is “Doing It."

World Aids Day Yesterday

When I drove into town yesterday morning I wondered what all the signage was all about. Rod Smith, Chair of the Florida Democratic Party says, we are in the midst of an epidemic. Not an epidemic that we simply hear about on TV, or that affects places we’ve never been to, but an epidemic that affects our neighbors, our friends and thousands in our community.

Florida is home to the 3rd largest population of those infected with HIV in the nation. One in every 205 white men, one in every 113 Latino men, and one in every 42 African American men is living with the AIDS virus in our state. Florida is one of the top three states with those with AIDS. Coincidentally, the states with the most people with AIDS/HIV are California and Texas, border states, and in Florida's case, a large population of immigrants. Nationally, AIDS is the leading cause of death among young African American women.

The federal budget request for fiscal year (FY) 2011 included a total of $20.4 billion for domestic HIV and AIDS, a 4% increase from the FY 2010 funding, which totaled $19.6 billion. Of this, 69 percent is for care, 14 percent for research, 13 percent for cash and housing assistance, and 4 percent for prevention. Of course, Rod Smith says that Rick Scott and Republicans are cutting funds and he is blaming the lack of funding on them. If you want to get involved, go to One.org.
