The band, which recently debuted in the Palm Beach area, features Fred Ferrese, John "JP" Parker and Fred Moore — talented vocalists backed by professional musicians Steve Rowley on guitar, Robert Viands on keyboards, Ron Esposito on drums and Max Farnbauch on bass. The cost for the dinner show is $50 per person. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.

South Florida’s only Three Dog Night tribute band recreates the timeless songs from one of the world's most prolific harmony bands best known for more than two dozen top hits from the late 1960s and 1970s including “Celebrate,” “Mama Told Me Not to Come,” “One,” “Eli's Coming” and “Easy to Be Hard.”

Ferrese, a popular entertainer at Atlantis Country Club, is a 20+ show veteran at the Perfect Vodka Amphitheatre at the South Florida Fairgrounds in West Palm Beach, and has covered shows in the VIP Room for bands including DMB, Journey, Creed and The Who.

Performing solo in local bars and restaurants remains a passion for Fred — mostly due to the intimate connection with his audience. Greatest Show on Earth bites the dust

Ringling Brothers, around since 1884, comes to an end. Another great corporation bites the dust thanks to increasing costs and liberal animal activist groups.

I've been attending this circus ever since I was a kid. My favorite act was the high trapeze and getting to see the elephants was a joy. It wasn't that long ago when the South Florida Fair had the Ringling Brothers Circus as a main act. And then that stopped.

If you like action packed way out thrillers, intrigue, guns, good guys and bad guys and a movie with a twist, this is the one for you! Don't believe the reviews; this movie is great.

Lake Worth Commissioners to attend convention in Nashville

The regularly scheduled city commission meeting that was to be held tomorrow, November 3, has been cancelled and rescheduled to November 10 so that four of our commissioners can attend the National League of Cities convention.

The National League of Cites is holding its annual convention in Nashville on November 4-7 and Mayor Pam Triolo, Scott Maxwell, Christopher McVoy and Andy Amoroso will be attending. The League even gives them a sample "justification letter" to use. They say that attendees will have "days of networking, learning, thought-leadership, and of course some fun with friends and colleagues, old and new."

Basically, it's just a way to have a little mini-vacation on the taxpayer dime.

to name a few. Why is it that we NEVER get a report on any trip they take on our behalf other than Chris McVoy reporting back.

South Pacific at Lake Worth Playhouse

From their web siet:  Rodgers and Hammerstein-- This epic musical romance centers on a group of American sailors and Navy nurses stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. Arkansas native Nellie Forbush befriends and quickly falls for Emile de Becque, a French expatriate and plantation owner, and Lt. Joe Cable finds himself in a passionate affair with Liat, the young daughter of Bloody Mary, the local grass-skirt peddler. As the war against Japan escalates, reality sets in for both Forbush and Cable, who struggle to reconcile their unconventional love affairs with their long-held prejudices and insecurities.

Folks, please get to our Playhouse and see this magnificent show.  The entire cast was superb but the lead playing Emile, Michael Cartwright, has a powerful voice and should be on Broadway. The cast got a standing ovation.  But we're truly lucky to have him here in Lake Worth. And we are indeed lucky to have such a great playhouse giving us professional performances each and every month that is located in downtown Lake Worth.

Top Gun - It Takes My Breath Away

In 1986, Tom Cruz had the "best" movie, Top Gun, and in it was the song,  Take My Breath Away.  It won awards:  the Academy Award for Best Original Song, as well as the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in 1986. Platoon won the Academy Award that year and Top Gun was not even in the mentioning other than for its song.  This is the movie that I remember the most and never get tired of the re-runs. Here is a "snippet" (good word lately) of the tune in the latest cool television advertisement.

Lot's of crime is happening on J Street, so is that all just coincidental?  As the city tries to re-incorporate culture by attracting artists, we get Stitches?  Maybe they all can find a pothole or two.

I liked this movie even though it is getting poor reviews. People are overly critical in today's world. I like any message that tells the tale that the good guys win over evil. It was full of action and never a dull moment with 61 year old Pierce Brosnan in a great role. He still has what it takes.

It shows the world for what it is...sometimes even those for whom you think are your friends, aren't.

Let's Eliminate the Free Lunch

As we have talked from time to time about ridiculous commission travel and entertainment expenses that have already exceeded budget for 2014, the Post has now exposed the director of the Port of Palm Beach for doing the very same thing. Read about it here.

The five port commissioners budget themselves $6,000 a year for annual travel but have a policy that if one doesn’t use his or her allotment, the others can use it, up to the total of $30,000. Here in Lake Worth, the budget used to be $30,000 a year and then it was cut in half.  In 2012, the commission agreed to limit spending to $1,700 per elected official per trip. The only dissenter to the vote was Amoroso. I guess he believes, along with the vice mayor, that you should be able to spend in any manner you choose as the city manager approves it all anyway.  The overall yearly budget for all 5 commissioners is $15,000, or $3,000 a piece. 

Isn't it high time that officials and employees in Lake Worth bite the bullet and cease all travel and seminars especially when we are the 2nd poorest city in Palm Beach County and they are asking taxpayers to swallow the bullet--approving $63 million in long-term debt and spend another $20 million when we already have debt on the books that has not been paid off?  The commission asks us to swallow their explanation that travel is beneficial for the city but never have they given a presentation on what's been accomplished--not once, never, nada.  Let's eliminate the free lunch so that the city can stop choking on the frivolous.
