Pam Bondi diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer

Pam Bondi reveals thyroid cancer diagnosis weeks after departing as attorney general

Former Attorney General Pam Bondi disclosed Wednesday that she has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and is undergoing treatment, including surgery she had roughly two weeks ago. The 60-year-old told CBS News via text message that the diagnosis came after she left the Justice Department in April.

Bondi's departure from the DOJ and her cancer fight landed almost on top of each other. President Trump let her go on April 2 and installed Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche as acting replacement. Somewhere in the weeks that followed, doctors found the cancer. Bondi kept it quiet and began treatment without public fanfare.

The disclosure arrived the same week Bondi is scheduled to testify Friday before the House Oversight Committee about her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files, a subject that drew months of bipartisan criticism during her tenure.

It also came alongside news that the administration has tapped her for a seat on the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, where she will focus on artificial intelligence policy.

Vice President JD Vance issued a statement to CBS News on Wednesday morning praising Bondi's service and her continued role in the administration's orbit.

Florida a Beacon of Hope in Cancer Research

DeSantis, First Lady Announce $60 Million Cancer Research Funding

Gov. Ron DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis on Wednesday announced $60 million in new funding for cancer research through the Florida Cancer Innovation Fund, an initiative established under the Casey DeSantis Cancer Research Program.

The announcement was made at the University of South Florida during the Department of Health’s World Cancer Research Day symposium. The program, now in its third year, is designed to support competitive research projects that produce measurable results.

The 2025 funding round emphasizes studies on nutrition’s role in prevention and treatment, while also encouraging proposals on emerging treatment methods and the repurposing of generic drugs.

Applications will be open to institutions and researchers statewide, with priority given to projects that include short-term clinical trials, direct patient interventions, and efforts in rural and underserved communities.

Trump's Surprise Call to Adams: Supportive Gesture

Trump Reaches Out to Scott Adams After Cancer Diagnosis

In an unexpected revelation, cartoonist Scott Adams has disclosed his fight against terminal cancer during a broadcast of his show.

Adams, known for creating the Dilbert comic strip, stated he has prostate cancer with bone metastasis and received support from former President Donald Trump, the Daily Wire reported.

Adams made the somber announcement about his condition, explaining it was similar to that of former President Joe Biden's prostate cancer. “I’ve had it longer than he’s had — well longer than he’s admitted having it,” Adams remarked, highlighting the longevity of his illness.

Despite the bleak diagnosis, which includes cancer spread to his bones, Adams remains engaged with his audience, using his platform to candidly discuss his health.

Amidst dealing with his health issues, Adams shared another surprising piece of news: a supportive gesture from Donald Trump. During his discussion, Adams recounted how he initially dismissed a call from an unfamiliar Florida number. After checking the voicemail, he realized it was from Trump, referred to in Adams' transcription as "your favorite president."

Cancer vaccine developed in Russia

Russia says it's developed a free cancer vaccine

The Daily Mail reported: "Andrey Kaprin, who heads the Radiology Medical Research Center of the Ministry of Health, said the shot will launch in early 2025, according to state-run media.

The vaccine will apparently be used to treat cancer patients, rather than being given to the general public to prevent tumors from forming in the first place.

Previous comments by Russian government scientists suggest each shot is personalized for the individual patient, which is similar to cancer vaccines being developed in the West.

It is currently not clear which cancers the vaccine is designed to treat, how effective it is or how Russia plans to roll it out. The name of the vaccine has not been revealed.

Personalized cancer vaccines are designed to teach the immune system how to recognize and attack proteins specific to that patient's cancer. To do this, vaccines use genetic material called RNA from a patient's own tumor.
