His approach reflects a growing opposition to the incoming Trump administration's policies.

Despite the magnitude of his position, the Denver Police Department has not yet made any public statements regarding his plans. Johnston remains steadfast in his dedication to maintaining Denver's sanctuary city policies, stating, "We’re not going to sell out those values to anyone. We’re not going to be bullied into changing them."

Johnston announced a $45 million package for immigrants this year, including $8 million slashed from the police department’s budget.

The funds will add to the $44 million already set aside for new arrivals to the Colorado capital, which saw its migrant expenses jump from $2 million in August to $15 million in December.

The Mayor said his own office will endure a 10% cut, but other public services must also tighten their belts. The fire department, for example, is set to lose $2.5 million.

The mayor wants to treat "newcomers" with dignity. Call them what they are--ILLEGALS who now will be treated better than poor American citizens.

Democrat Denver Mayor Mike Johnston’s Car Stolen Just Before Joe Biden’s Arrival for Campaign Event

Previously campaigning on the issue of car theft, Democrat Denver Mayor Mike Johnston’s car was stolen on Tuesday, just before Joe Biden arrived in the blue city.

Biden landed in Denver Tuesday afternoon for a campaign event and was greeted by Johnston at Air Force One.

Denver has been plagued with crime and rising auto thefts in recent years. Colorado’s auto theft rate climbed by the fastest rate in the nation from 2011 to 2020, jumping 144% during those years. Denver has had 10854 motor vehicle thefts reported so far this year, an average of 990.9 per month / 32.6 per day.

A report came out in February that said Denver's crime rates remain worse than before the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic, making Colorado's biggest city among the most crime-ridden metro areas in America, notably when it comes to car theft.

Denver, Colorado has decided that they're going to try and do something to fix the problem of homelessness in the city by introducing a basic income program in which they are going to give approximately 140 homeless people in the city up to $1,000 per month.

But, but, but, here is the criteria to be able to get the $1,000! Incredible.

According to the news release, the cash will be given monthly to “140 women, transgender and gender non-confirming individuals, and families in shelters.” The release did not mention homeless men.

A release issued by the city said that the $2 million to fund the program was sourced from the American Rescue Plan Act, which was backed by President Joe Biden and Democrats. The plan, which totals nearly $2 trillion, was signed into law in March 2021.
