Supreme Court takes a stand for State's Rights

Read about it... and the fact that the the United States Supreme Court this week rejected a case that challenged the use of a Confederate symbol on the Mississippi state flag.

Thank God this person was not allowed to push the envelope by rewriting and/or discarding history no matter how offended he said he was.

Florida Law on the Confederate Flag

Florida Statute Section 256.10 provides as follows:

256.10 Mutilation or disrespect for Confederate flags or replicas.- No person shall publicly mutilate, deface, defile, defy, trample upon, or by word or act cast contempt upon the flags of the Confederacy, or replicas thereof, for crass or commercial purposes; provided however that nothing contained herein shall be construed to prevent or prohibit the use of such flags for decorate (sic) or patriotic purposes.

The foregoing statute does not specifically provide that a resident in an HOA is entitled to fly a Confederate flag. The statute does prohibit certain disrespectful handling of such a flag and clarifies that flying a Confederate flag for decorative or patriotic purpose does not constitute casting contempt or disrespect upon that flag. Fascism on the rise in Austria?

There is always something in the newspaper that grabs my attention.Yesterday was no exception.

The house where Hitler was born will be razed. It was privately owned and the owner had never wanted to sell. It is also part of the historic city center and therefore under heritage protection. The city seized the property anyway. The raze is being pushed by the Jewish population and the town of Braunau, Austria where it is located. They say that they are afraid of Neo-Nazis hanging around or gawking tourists.

Austria wants to erase a part of history, as bad as it was, and has seized private property. 6 million Jews were annihilated by Hitler who seized their property. This was the worlds' most horrific atrocity but isn't Austria and its Jewish population doing the exact same thing by seizing private property that Hitler did to them?

It reminds me as to what happened a few years ago here when liberals along with Black Lives Matter and other "outraged" people decided to erase our Civil War history by removing artifacts and burning the Confederate Flag and spray painting monuments to Civil War heroes. And on a smaller scale, it reminds me of what the City of Lake Worth did do our Heights Referendum vote. But fascism starts at a local level and it can build and build.

Revisionism all over again. Book burning all over again. Abuse of power all over again. Government stomping on the rights of citizens and property owners all over again. Egregious, stupid and flat wrong.

Last year I was part of the minority who defended our history. The progressives rushed on the bandwagon and municipalities across the nation moved Confederate monuments and took down the flags that honored the Confederacy trying to make everyone believe that it was the politically correct thing to do--it was "racist" they told us. Retailers stopped carrying any remembrance of the Civil War and our history. People hated being tagged as a "racist" and gladly entered into the progressive BS.

I get so sick of the Southern Poverty Law Center labeling everyone as a racist who disagree with their communistic political philosophy. Even the group Israel United in Christ is on their hate group list. The SPLC's writings have even appeared in the Communist Party's USA's newspaper.

History in this country is so important, good, bad or indifferent. It is what has made us great. When all the Confederate symbols were being shelved last year and history re-written and forgotten, it reminded me of the big book burning done by Germany in World War II. We have people in our city who conveniently "forget" our history and re-write it all of the time.

This is a land of free expression and liberals need to remember that. Maybe we can beat their butts in November, preserve our history and make America Great Again. It certainly was squashed here in Lake Worth with a landslide election--bullies won based on fear and fantasy. Truth still matters. We just need to understand it...emotion vs. intellect.

The statute of Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States of America, has been moved from the Main Mall where it has stood for 82 years on the campus of the University of Texas. It will now be housed at the university's Center for American History.  Perhaps there it will not be vandalized by politically correct ideologue progressives or those empowered to stomp on our history as if it never existed.

Jefferson Davis, a graduate of West Point, fought in the Mexican-American War, served as the United States Secretary of War and was a United States Senator from Mississippi. Davis actually was against the south's secession in 1858 but he was a big supporter of States Rights believing that each state was sovereign and had an unquestionable right to secede from the Union. Back then, slavery was a legally recognized system going back as far as the 1700's and has spanned nearly every culture, nationality and religion.

At a reception in 1887 in New Orleans, well after the Confederate War, Davis said, "United you are now, and if the Union is ever to be broken, let the other side break it." The University of Texas has now broken history, relegating his remembrance to an obscure area.

Since Obama was elected, America has been wiping away its history. We have seen political and social "reforms" such as banning the song "Dixie" or removing the Confederate Flag or even changing the names of streets or schools that are named for Confederate heroes. Progressives today want to emphasize the positive rather than the negative and this is prevalent in the schools. It gets sillier--Now Obama is changing the name of Mt. McKinley to Mt. Danali in recognition of the traditions of Alaska Natives. But our history is what made this country the greatest on Earth.

Why should our government change names, move statutes or hide our history in a shoebox? 

The Citadel and the Confederate Flag

As my brother is a graduate of The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, I wanted to know its position on the Confederate Flag as in my opinion, it has all gotten out of hand.  The Confederate flag, flying at the college chapel, goes a long way back and represents heritage and pride and a war fought for States Rights. It was presented to the Citadel President General Charles P. Summerall by the Cadet Yacht Club in 1939.

Before the Charleston shooting incident by a whack job at the AME Church which is 2.1 miles from The Citadel, a Charleston city council member, African American Henry Darby and born in Charleston and who received a Masters in Education from the College in 2007, asked that the flag, considered to be a memorial for valor by the Citadel, be removed from Summerall Chapel. He threatened that the school would lose his support for $975,000 in Accommodations Tax funding if it were not removed.

This has been a difficult week for our community and state. The Citadel has directly felt the impact of the tragedy at Emanuel AME Church as one of the victims was a Citadel Graduate College alumnus and six of our employees lost family members. The Emanuel AME Church is our neighbor and we consider it a part of our extended Citadel family. We will continue to support the church and its members in their time of need.

Today, The Citadel Board of Visitors voted 9-3 in favor of moving the Confederate Naval Jack from Summerall Chapel to an appropriate location on campus. The move will require an amendment to the Heritage Act by the South Carolina legislature. The board’s motion authorizes the Chair of the Board of Visitors and the administration of the college to work with the legislature on the amendment. The Board of Visitors and I believe now is the right time to move the flag from a place of worship to an appropriate location. We pride ourselves on our core values of honor, duty and respect. Moving the Naval Jack to another location is consistent with these values and is a model to all of the principled leadership we seek to instill in our cadets and students. It also promotes unity on our campus, in our community and across our state during this time of healing.

Below are examples of "hate" flags. I can guaranty you that the US government would not go bonkers if anyone flew any one of these flags. The Confederate Flag, on the other hand, is a part of our history. It did not symbolize "hate" in any way, shape or form. Hate did not bring about the Civil War, 154 years ago. The progressive politically correct liberals have re-written history to convince everyone that it is not about one crazy man who entered a church and wiped out 9 black people but rather it is about anyone who embraces this flag, Confederate War hero or not. They contend that a big part of our history must be wiped out.

Those in Columbia, South Carolina went nuts today when the Confederate Flag, part of history, was lowered to be mothballed.  However, South Carolina had a good reason to lower this flag as it was raised originally at their capitol  because of their legislatures' objection to civil rights some 53 years ago. No one really remembers today, 5 decades later, that they used the flag as a symbol of their hatred when that was NOT what this flag signified during the Civil War. And it proves the point that one man can make a difference, even if he is totally crazy.

As a friend wrote to me--"The Confederate flag may bring to mind a difficult past, but it did not cause slavery issues (it has been abused by radical groups such as the KKK), but it represented a whole lot more that many, both white and black, died for in the Civil War - my great grandfather was one of those casualties. It is the violation of rights and the ability to sustain our freedoms that concerns me the most. No one should be able to say we can not purchase a flag or eat a fatty sandwich at McDonald's - it's wrong!! And now they are wanting to say you can't display the flag in cemeteries of our fallen civil war veterans - where does this nonsense end????"

A new poll says American public opinion on the Confederate flag remains virtually unchanged from 15 years ago, despite the events in Charleston, S.C., with most respondents describing the Rebel emblem as a symbol of pride and heritage. So, all these people trying to make something out of our history and calling the rebel flag "racist," and removing monuments, etc. need to get a grip.

It's hard to imagine that it was all these years ago that a Civil War was fought on American soil. This is a big part of our young nation's history and we have come a long way since that time with all citizens having equal opportunity to succeed.
