Last year I was part of the minority who defended our history. The progressives rushed on the bandwagon and municipalities across the nation moved Confederate monuments and took down the flags that honored the Confederacy trying to make everyone believe that it was the politically correct thing to do--it was "racist" they told us. Retailers stopped carrying any remembrance of the Civil War and our history. People hated being tagged as a "racist" and gladly entered into the progressive BS.
I get so sick of the Southern Poverty Law Center labeling everyone as a racist who disagree with their communistic political philosophy. Even the group Israel United in Christ is on their hate group list. The SPLC's writings have even appeared in the Communist Party's USA's newspaper.
History in this country is so important, good, bad or indifferent. It is what has made us great. When all the Confederate symbols were being shelved last year and history re-written and forgotten, it reminded me of the big book burning done by Germany in World War II. We have people in our city who conveniently "forget" our history and re-write it all of the time.
This is a land of free expression and liberals need to remember that. Maybe we can beat their butts in November, preserve our history and make America Great Again. It certainly was squashed here in Lake Worth with a landslide election--bullies won based on fear and fantasy. Truth still matters. We just need to understand it...emotion vs. intellect.

Let's see what else is part of our history: nooses hanging from trees, white and black drinking fountains and segregated schools. All are symbols, like the Confederate Flag, of a time in America's history that should never be forgotten but also shouldn't be celebrated.
History hasn't been "rewritten." You can always read about the meaning of the flag, see it pictured and even go visit it in museums. But most Americans find it offensive and representative of things that should not be celebrated by flying the flag. There will always be the minority who disagree and see nothing wrong with nooses, separate drinking fountains, segregated schools and Confederate flags. In fact, most of them lived it back in the day and did absolutely nothing to change it.
In fact, we DON'T want to forget those symbols or the people who still legitimize them today. This IS the Land of the Free and we definitely want to keep it that way by recognizing those people or organizations who exploit the freedoms of the Constitution to repress or threaten the freedoms of others.

Didn't take any time at all for you free thinkers believing in justice for all to call me a racist. Thanks for your perspective. Wasn't Zimmerman acquitted in a court of law?
Shall we now pretend that JFK never got shot? No one wants to put up with your race-baiting garbage any longer anony 10:39, 10:42. This was a war that was fought in our country that started us on the right path to freedom for all and rights for all. Now you want to take away one of the most important rights. Because you look at history as being a blight, look instead at it as righting the wrong and moving this country to the greatest on Earth. We should never forget that. It's ok to demonstrate just as long as it is not against liberals with an agenda.
A symbol or a flag is not threatening to anyone. Let's stop the paranoia we have going on. If someone is breaking the law or inflicting violence on others, arrest them and let's get on with it. Respect people's rights to be different within the law.
You should have the right to fly the confederate flag just like you should have the right to fly the swastica if you want. They both mean something. Never forget, comes to mind. Of course there might be repercussions for displaying either. The civil war was about states rights alright. It was the states' right to keep and use slaves. But slavery wasn't only for black Africans. And there is slavery in the world today. Our country took the painful steps to rid ourselves of slavery and start the healing process. Some on both sides won't let it go. We are reminded of it on a daily basis, as if it never went away. While we all mistakenly thought Obama's election would go a long way in proving we all are equal, it seems to have gotten worse.
Did you know that there were Black slave owners and that there were Black slave traders?
We really need to move on, be allowed our history, good or bad, as a reminder of where we are now. We've come a long way, baby.
Some of us have come a long way. Others like you are stuck in the past and yearn for the day when "those people" knew their place. Right Lynn?
What I am stuck on is Always doing the right thing, having morals and integrity and not selling our city to the highest bidder. That's why I like Allen West, Ben Carson and Hermain Cain so much. :)
