Kwanzaa to be celebrated in Lake Worth

Comment Up

The city just put out it's on-line news that states:

Celebrate Kwanza on Saturday, December 26 at 2:00 PM in City Hall annex

The first specifically African-American holiday was created by Maulana Karenga in 1965. During the early years of Kwanzaa, it was meant to be an "oppositional alternative" to Christmas.  Karenga was convicted of felony assault charges in 1971 after he was accused of torturing two women. He did serve time behind bars, but reports differ on whether he spent four or five years in prison.

However, and in spite of his felony conviction and prison term, Kwanzaa gained mainstream adherents when Karenga altered his position so that practicing Christians would not be alienated and he could gain members. "Many African Americans who celebrate Kwanzaa do so in addition to observing Christmas," according to Wikipedia.

But because of Political Correctness, we are not allowed to have anything that exclusively mentions Christmas and there is no special city event with the word Christmas in it. Even the tree is now a Holiday Tree.  The Parade is a Holiday parade.
