DHS employee killed while walking her dog by naturalized citizen with violent criminal record, federal officials say

A 40-year-old auditor for the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Inspector General was shot and stabbed while walking her dog in Atlanta on Monday morning.

She was one of three victims targeted in a series of random attacks that left two women dead and a homeless man critically wounded, according to federal and local authorities.

Lauren Bullis, originally from Louisiana, was attacked around 7 a.m. The suspect, 26-year-old Olaolukitan Adon-Abel, had become a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2022 and carried a criminal record that included convictions for sexual battery, assault with a deadly weapon, battery against a police officer, and obstruction, DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin revealed.

While some reports and social media discussions mention Nigerian heritage or a Nigerian background based on his name, official government and news sources strictly identify his birth country as the United Kingdom.

U.S. economic growth prospects received a fresh boost this week as the Atlanta Federal Reserve nearly doubled its estimate for fourth-quarter output after a raft of strong data, while Fitch Ratings lifted its projections for full-year 2025 and 2026 growth after delayed government releases showed firmer economic momentum.

The Atlanta Fed’s closely watched GDPNow model lifted its estimate of fourth-quarter real gross domestic product (GDP) growth to 5.4 percent on Jan. 8, up from 2.9 percent a day earlier, after incorporating new data on trade, consumer spending, and services activity.

Separately, Fitch said on Jan. 8 that delayed economic releases revealed firmer momentum in the second half of 2025 than previously assumed, prompting upward revisions to its medium-term growth forecasts.

Geiger Capital described the Atlanta Fed’s upgrade as a “massive expansion” largely attributable to the narrowing trade deficit, with new data released on Jan. 8 by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) showing that America’s trade gap shrank to its lowest level in 16 years.

He then abandoned his car while armed with a particularly deadly weapon: a handgun that had been illegally modified to function as a fully automatic machine gun.

Federal prosecutors are investigating an Atlanta-based Black extremist group preaching violence against the U.S. government as part of a wide-ranging criminal probe, according to a report.

The Black Hammer Party, allegedly involved in arming and recruiting homeless men, is under joint investigation by the FBI and the Fayetteville, Georgia Police Department for a slew of potential charges ranging from weapons and narcotics offenses, kidnapping and human trafficking, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

According to a recent federal indictment unsealed in Tampa, Florida, Romain and the Black Hammer Party were involved in an alleged scheme with a Russian citizen with ties to the Kremlin aiming to sow discord in the U.S. by paying fringe groups to protest and infiltrate local political movements.

In addition to the Atlanta-based Black Hammer Party, the indictment named other groups in Florida and California.

According to The Independent, the incident has not impacted the councilman’s attitude about police.
