The Trump administration has picked Deputy Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Jim O’Neill to serve as acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a day after the administration fired current Director Susan Monarez, officials told The Hill.

Monarez is contesting her firing, though the White House has confirmed her ouster following a statement on Wednesday from HHS.

O’Neill is a Silicon Valley investor and former CEO of the Thiel Foundation, funded by Trump donor Peter Thiel. He previously served as principal associate deputy secretary at HHS during the George W. Bush administration.

He was sworn in as deputy secretary in June.

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced a sweeping policy change Thursday that bars illegal immigrants from accessing several federal programs, including Head Start, community health centers, mental health and substance use treatment services, and the Title X family planning program.

Kennedy’s decision stemmed from a February executive order by President Donald Trump directing federal agencies to tighten restrictions on illegal immigrants’ access to taxpayer-funded services. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) argues that previous administrations, particularly the Clinton administration, unlawfully permitted exceptions to the 1996 welfare reform law.

While illegal immigrants were already barred from most federal benefits, this policy expands the list of programs classified as federal benefits, now totaling 44 programs, up from 31. The policy is effective immediately, with a 30-day period for public comment.

Kennedy said he was rescinding a decades-old interpretation of a 1996 law known as the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act that had “improperly extended certain federal public benefits to illegal aliens.”

The move is the latest in a series of steps that furthers Trump’s goal of cracking down on illegal immigration, a key promise of his campaign. Democrats are already screaming.

The Trump administration’s Health and Human Services Department has canceled hundreds of millions of dollars in grants dedicated to researching illegal sexual behavior in children, pregnancy prevention for “transgender boys,” and so-called sleep inequality affecting black sexual-minority men.

In March, HHS canceled at least $530 million of funding for LGBTQ+ health research programs, according to a grant tracker from Noam Ross of rOpenSci and Scott Delaney of Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

HHS previously provided more than $990 million of grant funding to LGBTQ+ health research programs, according to the tracker.

The National Institutes of Health’s newly sworn-in director, Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, said that under his tutelage, the agency would shift its priorities toward “research aimed at preventing, treating, and curing chronic conditions like cancer, diabetes, heart disease, obesity and many others that cause so much suffering and deaths among all Americans.

The priority shift included cutting funding for studies focused on radical gender ideology, critical race theory, and other topics that polls show to be wildly unpopular with Americans.

A health official said all the Freedom of Information Act offices were previously operating in an isolated fashion.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s entire Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) office was fired as part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) reorganization, a health official confirmed on April 2.

Some FOIA employees working in other HHS divisions, including the National Institutes of Health, were also among those being laid off by HHS. The terminations are part of HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s restructuring plan, aimed at streamlining operations, an HHS official told The Epoch Times.

The various FOIA offices did not communicate with each other, nor did they report to their parent agency, HHS, the official said. Instead, the offices “all operated in their own silo.”

A judge has upheld DOGE’s authority to access data at three federal agencies.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) can continue its de facto ('in fact' or 'in reality') audit of certain executive agencies, according to a ruling Friday in the District of Columbia.

U.S. District Judge John Bates in Washington on Feb. 14 declined a request by unions and nonprofits for a temporary restraining order (TRO) to prevent the DOGE team from gaining access to records at the Department of Labor, the Department of Health and Human Services, as well as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

In denying the plaintiffs’ request for a restraining order, the judge noted that the plaintiffs failed to show a substantial likelihood of success on the merits of their claims, which centered on the idea that DOGE’s data access policies were illegal because they were implemented without proper rulemaking or legal authority.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) canceled more than $180 million in contracts over 48 hours, including a nearly $170,000 contract for an Anthony Fauci museum exhibit.

“In the past 48 hours, HHS canceled 62 contract [sic] worth $182 million,” The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) announced in a Friday social media post.

“These contracts were entirely for administrative expenses – none touched any healthcare programs. This included terminating a $168,000 contract for an Anthony Fauci exhibit at the NIH Museum.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, America First Legal (AFL) filed a lawsuit against the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to enforce its Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for HHS Assistant Secretary Levine’s communications regarding pediatric “transgender clinics,” otherwise known as the genital mutilation and sterilization of America’s children.

In March of 2023, HHS Assistant Secretary Levine stated that socially and medically transitioning children to a “different sex” had support “at the highest levels of the federal government,” including President Biden and that anyone that dared to question the wisdom or safety of such experiments on children was “ideologically and politically motivated.”

The following week, AFL sent a FOIA to HHS requesting Assistant Secretary Levine’s communications related to the practices of transgender clinics in the United States, medical and social transitioning of children, and various legislation throughout the country that would scale back such dangerous practices.

After nearly a year of delay, it has become clear that HHS is covering up damning communications.

The judge restricted some agencies and officials of the Biden administration from meeting and communicating with social media companies. These companies colluded with Biden and the Democrats to moderate content, according to a court filing and known reality recognized by most conservatives.

The ruling declared that government agencies like the Department of Health and Human Services and the FBI could not talk to social media companies for “the purpose of urging, encouraging, pressuring, or inducing in any manner the removal, deletion, suppression, or reduction of content containing protected free speech” under the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Judge rules against another Biden COVID mandate

It was back in November 2021 that the mandate was issued by the Office of Head Start, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Administration for Children and Families.

The mandate has two main requirements. One is that adult staff members working at Head Start facilities have to either get vaccinated against the coronavirus or, if exempt, undergo weekly testing. And, the other requirement is that, at these Head Start facilities, all staff members and all children ages two and older have to wear face masks.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Terry A. Doughty made a ruling in the case, issuing a permanent injunction that affects 24 states, one of which is Florida.
