Man accused of illegally bringing "migrants" into US off Boynton Beach

WFLX: "A man is facing up to 30 years in prison, after federal prosecutors said he was operating a boat carrying eight undocumented migrants, according to court records filed earlier this month.

Federal court records show Jermaine Domingo Williams faces eight charges of bringing aliens to the United States for private financial gain after telling a federal agent he was paid $8,000 to bring eight people into the country.

All nine individuals on the boat were taken into the Coast Guard’s custody on March 13, according to the criminal complaint, after a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Marine Unit stopped a 21-foot cuddy cabin boat.

The court records show financial details around immigration, such as migrants paying $4,000 to $11,000 to enter the United States. According to court records, the boat sank after Williams left the vessel and federal officials rescued the other eight people.

WFLX has been tracking various boatscapsized throughout our area and migrants arrested.

Three of the eight people on the boat were previously deported and are now facing federal charges for illegal re-entry. Two of those individuals were previously deported from the United States in October 2024, about five months before this recent attempt.

According to data obtained from Customs and Border Protection, 27% of individuals were apprehended more than once within the same fiscal year." [WFLX]

Well, it seems that the Boynton Beach Commission wants to do the same thing that the Lake Worth Commission achieved regarding term limits.

Boynton already has three year terms so our city probably decided that was a great idea and our voters agreed. But Boynton is considering  amending its city charter where Residents would vote on and decide if a commissioner who has served their allowable two terms (6 years) should be able to run for mayor without sitting out a cycle. If elected, the commissioner could serve an additional two terms, meaning they could serve on the commission for 12 years instead of 6.

So what happens if the mayor wants to go back and serve as a commissioner without sitting a term out? You've heard of "forever" stamps so we could be on the verge of "forever" officials who never go away as local municipalities change their charter for their own benefit. Everyone knows that a ballot initiative usually passes.

"Equity" in Boynton Beach instead of "Equality"

Redefining words is one of the ways leftists exercise control over the citizenry

This particular word of which I speak is "equity."

"Liberals, socialists and communists love that word. Until fairly recently, equity was a concept attached to real estate and property ownership. But, in case you hadn’t noticed, it has become an oft-repeated word regarding race, virtually replacing the word “equality” altogether. No one on the Left is talking about equality anymore. Instead, they’re talking about equity."

And that's what they're talking about in Boynton Beach where their commission voted to create an executive position--Director of Equity that will pay $$238,000 in salary and perks.

Their bent out of shape belief that we were all f-d-up and unfair towards people of race started with the criminal George Floyd. Everyone should be making the same and have the same opportunities as Whites qualified or not. Of course, all citizens have the exact same opportunities in this country, whether believed or not by the Alt-Left Boynton Beach Commission.

Now Boynton and other Left-wing cities are going back to racial profiling and Affirmative Action, which promtoes discrimination in reverse and reinforces stereotypes.

I have always said that politics starts at the local level. It is imperative that we vote in conservatives to city and county commissions in order to save our country..

Boynton Beach is only ten years behind Lake Worth in banning off-shore drilling.

In 2009, the Lake Worth City commission passed Resolution 60-2009 which opposed the approval of oil drilling in Florida's waters in areas other than those already approved for oil leasing and oil exploration.

On the Lake Worth commission in 2009 were Mayor Rene Varela, Vice Mayor Jo-Ann golden, Commissioners Scott Maxwell, Cara Jennings and Suzanne Mulevhill.

Hypocrisy among Liberals and the Media

After reading the editorial in today's Palm Beach Post, the editor proves the point that there is a double standard when it comes to one person's opinion versus another's especially on a highly political issue.

This one involved Boynton Beach becoming a Sanctuary City. Haitian born Boynton Beach commissioner, Christina Romelus, wanted the discussion on Boynton Beach becoming a Sanctuary City. Cindy Falco-DiCorrado, a member of the CRA Board, expressed her opinion against Sanctuary Cities. She then was accused of being "racist."  "Racist" is the liberal's favorite slur towards anyone with a different opinion and it seems to work.

Both of these women had opinions on this subject. According to the Palm Beach post editor, he said, "And our democracy would suffer serious injury if public officials start getting pushed out of office for merely voicing their opinions, however unpopular some portions of the community find them."

Some residents in the city asked Romelus to resign, be voted out or impeached. Romelus then attacked our president and blamed him for the anger, hate and animosity.  On the other hand, Falco-DiCorrado was forced to resign by the liberal leaning Boynton Beach Commission.

Voicing an opinion doesn't work in a city run by liberals if it goes against the liberal agenda and it doesn't work if it goes against the editor of The Palm Beach Post, a left leaning newspaper. They will always find a way to shut you down and use the R word.

Contin's lawsuit thrown out

Architect Juan Contin, of 826 S. Federal Highway in Lake Worth, filed a lawsuit four years ago against the City of Boynton Beach for not implementing his plan to redevelop the historic high school. The Appellate court has thrown out the suit.

The City of Boynton Beach has contracted with Jeff Hardin of Stratican to rehab the school. If you recall, about ten years ago, Straticon was involved with one of the former owners of the Gulfstream Hotel, Schlesinger, and involved in building a hotel on our beach property.

Schlesinger, the former owner of the Gulfstream Hotel before Hudson Holdings, was the one who stopped the restoration of this hotel.  He could have restored this hotel when he bought it but he delayed over and over again after P&Z and the Historic Board gave him waiver after waiver.

Tonight Boynton Beach will discuss becoming a Sanctuary City

City "leaders" in Boynton Beach will meet tonight at 6pm to discuss whether or not to become a sanctuary city.

Sanctuary cities are places that want to reduce the fear of deportation and the cities can do that by limiting their cooperation with the federal government. Boynton Beach commissioners could decide tonight if they want to move in that direction.

12. NEW BUSINESS  B. Commissioner Romelus has requested a discussion as to if the Commission would like to consider becoming a Sanctuary City.

Boynton Beach does not have live video of its meetings and have no idea if this discussion will generate a large crowd.

Boynton Beach votes to have Medical Marijuana dispensaries

Last night on a 3/2 vote, Boynton Beach did something really stupid...they voted to have medical marijuana dispensaries. In August, they passed a motion that said they needed to vote two additional times in order to pass an ordinance to regulate them. The next vote is in November.

Gov. Rick Scott signed a law that went into effect July 1. It said that cities can't limit the number of shops in town. And state law says rules for locating dispensaries can't be tougher than those for pharmacies such as CVS and Walgreens.

Katie Mcgiveron speaks to Boynton Beach City Commission

On Tuesday night, Katie Mcgiveron spoke before the Boynton Beach City Commission as they had a Resolution on their Consent Agenda (encouraged by Scott Maxwell to do so)  to approve of the Atlanta Braves coming into John Prince Park.  Following is her public commentary:

Mayor, Commissioners, my name is Katie Mcgiveron. Thank you for allowing me to speak this evening.

I was born at Bethesda Hospital a LONG time ago, grew up in Lantana, and my husband and I made the big move to Lake Worth after we were married. I am the president of my neighborhood association, ROLO, Residents of Lake Osborne. Again, thank you for pulling this item for discussion.

In the packets I sent to each one of you is a map of John Prince Park, a break down of the usable acreage in the park and a card to our Facebook page. I also included an article by Bloomberg News "The Braves Play Taxpayers better than they play Baseball."

To get to the proposed stadium site you must take either Lantana or 6th Avenue South. Right now the 6th Avenue South interchange is such a traffic clogged mess that FDOT has commissioned a study to see how the traffic problems in this area can be solved. The state does not do this kind of thing often or lightly.

John Prince Park is a public park that should never have even  been considered for something like this. Once our park is gone, it's gone. You can't just say "we'll put another park over there." There is NO MORE OVER THERE left in Palm Beach County.

But let's cut to the chase:  MONEY. Money is always the bottom line isn't it.? Your mission statement here in Boynton is as follows: "To create a sustainable community by providing exceptional municipal service in a financially responsible manner." IN A FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE MANNER!

Baseball stadiums are a bad deal for the communities that have to pay for them. Study after study after study is out there, by economist after economist after economist.

Go to the Facebook page John Prince Park Preservation that I gave to you, scroll down and read the articles. Do your research before you jump into a resolution like this. In closing, if I may be so bold, I have some homework for each of you. This weekend, go to John Prince Park and take some time to look around. Maybe even talk to some people using the park. Once this park is gone, it's gone.

Does anyone get excited about Lake Worth's booth and its colors they are using to advertise our city?

The only booth that was manned while I was there was the City of Boynton Beach where I won a Pirate Fest mug. The gal manning the booth is a former employee of Lake Worth, Patsy Grissom, and worked in the Utility Department.

Post wrong on Boynton’s 1927 high school: Save it, don’t demolish it -

I read with disbelief your editorial “1927 school, 2013 reality” about the old Boynton Beach high school, in which you strongly suggested that demolition would have to be an option if the city commission rejected the financing plan for the latest proposal. I found it even more difficult to accept after you mentioned other important structures such as the Harriet Himmel Theater and the 1916 courthouse that were saved in Palm Beach County against similarly difficult odds.

Even the rebuilt casino is, with the Cultural Council office and other community redevelopment agency projects, turning Lake Worth into a great town again, anchored by its history. Why can’t Boynton Beach be like Lake Worth or Delray Beach? Why must we tear down one of the three great historic buildings downtown? Because of a poorly conceived and expensive plan that would have ruined the historic character of the old high school and compromised the historic setting of the old elementary school/children’s museum?

This building is solid, with an easily reusable floor plan and a unique combination of early 1920s Mediterranean revival architecture and a touch of later 1920s Art Deco. This building could anchor the east side of Ocean Avenue by becoming part of a municipal or mixed-use project. Imagine an art center with facilities for seniors and children next door. Imagine it as part of a new city hall complex with the upper-floor gym restored and reused as the city commission chambers. Imagine the former classrooms on both floors available for retail, a coffee shop and community rooms

What potential there is for Boynton Beach to dream big with its new leadership. Instead, our community paper said, “Tear it down; it’s useless.” We should be saying: “Let’s do the most sustainable thing possible. Let’s reuse it and activate our rejuvenating downtown for the pride and joy of all our residents and visitors, and for future generations who would see this accomplishment and also learn about the early history of a great city in Palm Beach County. Let’s have a conversation with the community and not suggest demolition at this time.”

Hudson Holdings pulls out of Boynton Project

Hudson Holdings, a company that wants to get hold of our casino complex, just pulled out of a project in Boynton Beach. "Steven Michael of HH Boynton told the Boynton Beach Community Redevelopment Agency board Tuesday night the company decided to 'pull out' of the project." He did not give his reasons.  Maybe Boynton lucked out.

Sheriff Rick Bradshaw wants a 4.3% increase for doing such a "smashing" job. This increase will go towards salaries and benefits. He is out there presenting his case and doing what it takes to convince the Palm Beach County Commissioners to give him what he wants...$531.3 million. Usually the sheriff gets what he wants because all of us are paranoid about the increase in crime in our county. And NOTHING gets better. Hell, crime is sneaking west of the tracks--someone recently drove by and shot into a house in the 2400 block of Lake Osborne Drive.

Even in Lake Worth the sheriff says that crime is down other than in two categories. We who live here are not experiencing any vote of confidence that crime is diminishing to any acceptable level. In fact, we are experiencing more of it. See crime stats  It is the elephant in the room that no commissioner EVER talks about along with the sheriff's budget unless, of course, they give us some erroneous bit of information like they saved us $600,000. The truth of the matter is, the sheriff's budget has gone up every year unlike the rest of Lake Worthians who work for a living and pay their salary increases.

• The Lake Worth crime index is 68% higher than the Florida average and and the Florida crime index is 15% higher than the National average.
• The Lake Worth violent crime rate is 130% higher than the Florida average and and the Florida violent crime rate is 25% higher than the National average.
• The Lake Worth property crime rate is 59% higher than the Florida average and and the Florida property crime rate is 14% higher than the National average.

When we first contracted with the Sheriff, there were 134 now we have a total of 94 Lake Worth police officers. This results in 2.7 police officers per 1,000 residents which is 31.8% less than the Florida average and 5% less than the National average. The criminals are winning the 'game" in our city.

When contracts come up, raises should be based on results. Boynton Beach's city manager is in contract negotiations with the police union and they are calling for her head...reminds me of a few years ago when Stanton went through the same thing. The unions run the city, or so they believe, but rather it is what city managers have allowed them to get away with.  And of course, their officers in Boynton are pulling the same trick as they did in Lake Worth--all want to go to PBSO--higher salaries.

As a city, we are definitely poorer with little results to show for the $15,057,593 (projected to go up next year to $15,651,934) which is nearly 60% of our operating budget for SAFETY. 

There is power in numbers and Rick Bradshaw has more power than any human being in Palm Beach County. The rest of us? We sit here and pretend that we are feigning off criminals by putting on night lights so that criminals might think someone is at home, contract with ADT, install security lights, look over our shoulder when we are walking to our car and make the necessary precautions to feel less exposed to danger. And then we call for the sheriff AFTER the crime has been committed.  Do we feel safer? In the end, it is the voter who has the power to affect change.
