Rep. James Clyburn publicly endorsed adding four new seats to the Supreme Court for a total of thirteen, arguing on national television that Congress must take “significant actions” to address what he described as a reversal of the nation’s constitutional progress, an idea critics warn could undermine the Court’s independence.

On NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Rep. James Clyburn made his position clear: he wants Congress to expand the Supreme Court from its current nine justices to thirteen. Asked directly by host Kristen Welker whether he supported adding four seats, Clyburn responded, “Yes, I do.”

He called for what he described as “significant actions taken by the Congress” and insisted that “thirteen is a pretty good number. A baker’s dozen would be a good number to have on the court.” Clyburn added that he hoped (he hoped?) the new justices would “follow the constitutional underpinnings of this great nation of ours.”

Calls to expand the Supreme Court have become a rallying cry in some progressive circles frustrated with a conservative majority. But Clyburn’s remarks on a national platform escalate the conversation, placing a senior Democratic leader in direct support of a policy long viewed as a partisan power grab.

A prosecutor in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ office says he was instructed to investigate Trump-affiliated individuals and organizations without credible cause, an allegation James’ office strongly denies.

Daniel Wiesenfeld, a former Brooklyn prosecutor now with the New York Attorney General’s Investor Protection Bureau, sent a mass email accusing his own office of ordering politically motivated investigations. The email, reportedly delivered to about 2,000 staffers and later deleted, charged that he was told to “find and pursue crimes” committed by people and groups tied to former President Donald Trump, even when there was no credible reason to do so.

Wiesenfeld’s message named names. He claimed Bureau Chief Shamiso Maswoswe had directed him to target “Trump himself, Truth Social, Hewlett Packard (DOJ approved merger)... without having a credible reason for targeting the organizations and individuals.” 

He went further, warning colleagues, “If you believe Trump is using the [Department of Justice] attorneys to prosecute his enemies and further his political interests, you should find it equally troubling that Tish [James] is doing exactly the same thing.”

The prosecutor’s warning was blunt: “I ask you that you not serve as Tish’s personal attorneys by targeting her political enemies. Instead, I hope (he hopes?) you choose to prosecute crimes and find the individuals accountable, rather than targeting individuals and then finding crimes.”

He also told reporters Canada was "at war" with the United States. A country that has extracted sixty billion dollars a year from American workers just declared itself a victim.

A male pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Lake Worth Beach on Saturday night, PBSO said Sunday

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is searching for an older-model black Honda Accord

"Deputies responded to 2405 10th Avenue North, just west of Interstate 95, at 10:52 p.m. The vehicle, a 2003 to 2007 Honda Accord, was traveling eastbound on 10th Avenue North, approaching the 2405 block, according to the PBSO crash report.

The pedestrian was walking on or near the fog line of the eastbound lanes of 10th Avenue North within the 2405 block. As the car continued eastbound, it passed a slower-moving vehicle, changing lanes out of and back into the outside lane of travel, PBSO said.

Upon returning to the outside lane, the vehicle collided with the pedestrian. During the collision, the front passenger side was struck in a sideswipe manner. The victim was vaulted into the air and subsequently into an aluminum fence. The person came to rest on the pedestrian sidewalk on the south side of 10th Avenue North, just east of the area of impact. The car continued eastbound and fled the scene, PBSO said.

PBSO said the car will have collision damage to the front passenger quarter panel, front passenger wheel well, passenger side mirror and passenger door window.

Iran losing its Leverage

No, Iran is not winning: In Act IV of the war, it’s losing its leverage in Hormuz

The arc of this six-month conflict has proceeded in four acts.

• Act One began with intensive airstrikes on February 28 and lasted through six weeks of high-intensity military operations.
• Act Two began with the April 7 ceasefire and negotiations, culminating with the June 17 MOU signed by Trump and Iran’s president, Masoud Pezeshkian.
• Act Three began weeks later when Iran chose once again to target commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, leading to another tit-for-tat military exchange.

Since mid-July, the US has reimposed its military blockade on Iranian ports and sanctions on Iran’s oil trade. In parallel, the U.S. military has worked tirelessly to clear shipping lanes and help protect commercial ships transiting the Strait.

The result has been an effective blockade on Iranian oil shipments, with global shipments recovering and energy prices remaining remarkably stable. Bloomberg reported this week that oil flows through the Strait have recovered to 2/3 of pre-war levels.

That means pressure is now compounding on Iran, and not the US. And if Iran loses its ability to hold the Strait hostage, its leverage dissipates rapidly.

According to the International Monetary Fund, Iran’s economy is expected to contract by more than 5% this year, with inflation approaching 70%. The value of Iran’s currency has fallen sharply. Prices for basic goods have soared. An Iranian Labor Ministry official recently estimated that more than one million jobs disappeared during the first three months of the war alone.

• But Act Four seems different. The US military has a clear objective as outlined this week by the commander of CENTCOM, Admiral Brad Cooper. It is enforcing the blockade on Iran and facilitating the movement of commercial traffic.

And that status quo — perhaps for the first time since the war began — now favors Washington, not Tehran.

THE CHINA FARMLAND LOBBY--Smithfield paid Holland & Knight $270,000 during the second quarter of 2025 and paid them another $270,000 for a portfolio of lobbying issues that specifically included “issues related to foreign ownership of agricultural land.”

NYC first lady Rama Duwaji heads to Portugal for third luxury Islamic retreat of 2026

New York City's first lady is set to spend nearly two weeks at a posh Islamic calligraphy retreat in the Portuguese countryside this September, her third European getaway with the same organization this year, while critics say she has shown more interest in overseas travel than in the city her husband governs.

Rama Duwaji, the 29-year-old wife of Mayor Zohran Mamdani, will serve as "artist-in-residence" at a "Journey through Islamic Calligraphy" retreat hosted by The Women Sanctuary at a manor house in Arcos de Valdevez, near Porto, Portugal. The retreat runs two sessions, September 16, 21 and September 25, 30, and costs attendees between $4,300 for a shared room and $5,260 for a private room with a private bathroom, the New York Post reported.

The manor's amenities include a heated outdoor pool, a heated indoor pool, and landscaped gardens. The retreat's website promises days spent "exploring the rich history of Islam in Portugal" alongside calligraphy workshops, picnics, poolside hangouts, and walks, all wrapped in language about "spiritual reflection" and "suhbah," an Arabic term for spiritual companionship.

Three Islamic retreats in three months, and a September packed with travel--

The Portugal trip marks Duwaji's third Women Sanctuary retreat in 2026. She attended the first on the Spanish resort island of Mallorca over the Fourth of July weekend, skipping America's 250th birthday celebration. The second ran July 9, 14 in Corsica, France, honoring what the organization described as "the legacy of Mary, the most honored woman in the Quran."

Duwaji is also slated to visit Lebanon and Syria at some point in September, though the specific dates have not been disclosed. Both countries sit on the U.S. State Department's "Do Not Travel" list for Americans.

But here’s what decades of watching these campaigns have taught conservative Americans: the invitation always comes with conditions. Democrats will preach inclusion, tolerance, and open dialogue until someone who actually disagrees with them walks through the door. Then the hospitality evaporates in about three seconds flat.

It just happened again in rural Wisconsin, and honestly, the details are almost too perfect.

Wisconsin Democrat congressional candidate Rebecca Cooke’s post-primary effort to present herself as a candidate willing to engage voters across the political spectrum is facing scrutiny after a Trump supporter was denied entry to an event her campaign had promoted as open to the public.

On primary night, Cooke declared, “If I see someone with a MAGA hat on, I’m shaking their hand.” Days later, her campaign launched a two-day “Coming Together Tour,” advertising the events as “free and open to the public” and saying, “all are welcome.”

A Stevens Point woman took Cooke at her word. She showed up to the “Coming Together Tour” wearing a MAGA hat with an American flag draped over her shoulders. She was denied entry at the door.

Trump said both Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth worked with Veneuzelan Interim President Delcy Rodriguez on the deal.

The Trump State Department has revoked the visa of a former Iraqi finance minister who received a prestigious "Women of Courage" award from the Biden administration in 2022, after the FBI placed her on its terrorist watchlist.

Taif Sami Mohammed al-Shakarchi, once celebrated by then-First Lady Jill Biden and then-Secretary of State Antony Blinken as a "front-line leader against corrupt practices," is no longer in the United States. The State Department confirmed her visa has been canceled and she has been banned from entering the country as a security threat.

State Department spokesman Dylan Johnson drew a sharp line between the two administrations' handling of al-Shakarchi.

"While the Biden State Department shamefully celebrated and awarded foreigners who threaten our nation, the Trump State Department revokes their visas and ensures these individuals are removed from our country."

Mayor Zohran Mamdani's flagship universal childcare program faces an embarrassing debut, providers contracted to open classrooms on September 10 say the city has not sent the advance payments they need to hire staff, buy supplies, or even fix the plumbing.

Across Queens, Staten Island, and Brooklyn, directors of small daycare centers told the New York Post they are draining personal savings, maxing out credit lines, delaying staff paychecks, and skipping their own salaries to keep doors open, all while City Hall and the Comptroller's office trade blame over unregistered contracts.

The result: the city's 2-K, 3-K, and pre-K programs, the centerpiece of Mamdani's 2025 campaign, risk opening without teachers, without supplies, and without the trust of the very operators the system depends on.

The payment delays land at a moment when the financial credibility of Mamdani's entire childcare agenda is already under scrutiny. A nonpartisan study by the Center for New York City Affairs found that the program will cost roughly $9 billion annually, about 50 percent more than the $6 billion Mamdani promised on the campaign trail.

VoterGA (Voters Organized for Trusted Election Results in Georgia) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-partisan organization focused on election infrastructure, voting technology, and election integrity in the state of Georgia. Founded in 2006 by Garland Favorito, the group advocates for verifiable, auditable, and hand-counted paper ballot voting systems.

President Donald Trump used a July 16, 2026, primetime White House address to focus the country on U.S. election security, and according to the source report, he announced the declassification of intelligence documents tied to China, the 2020 election, and an alleged effort by intelligence officials to keep key information from him and from Congress.

That is not exactly a small paperwork dispute at the federal file cabinet. The released material, as described in the report, points to China trying to exploit America’s political divisions and weaken Trump’s support through domestic and foreign groups opposed to him.

Voter Data Allegedly Became the Main Target--The most serious claims center on Americans’ personal information. According to the released records cited in the report, Chinese-linked operatives obtained more than 220 million American voter records, totaling about 45 gigabytes of data.

The information reportedly included names, addresses, telephone numbers, political affiliations, and other details that could be useful for political targeting or voter registration activity.

Another report alleged that information collected from millions of TikTok users could be used to place real names, addresses, and identification numbers on fraudulent licenses, making them harder to catch.

In plain English, the concern is not just foreign propaganda. It is foreign access to the kind of data that can be weaponized in an election system.

Honduran national charged with voter fraud in first arrest of Trump DOJ crackdown in California

Federal prosecutors in Los Angeles announced the first arrest in a promised election fraud crackdown, charging a Honduran green card holder with two felonies for fraudulently registering to vote and falsely claiming U.S. citizenship.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli, the top federal prosecutor in California's Central District, announced the charges against Darwin Jonathan Rivera Flores on Friday. Rivera Flores, a resident of the Winnetka area of Los Angeles west of Van Nuys, faces two felony counts: fraudulent voter registration and false claim of U.S. citizenship. The Department of Justice said he entered the country during the George W. Bush administration as a green card holder, but was never a U.S. citizen.

Essayli made clear the case is not an isolated prosecution. He framed it as the opening move in a broader federal effort to root out illegal voter registrations in a state he says makes it far too easy for noncitizens to end up on the rolls.

"Today's arrest is the first of many to come. Unfortunately, because states like California allow non-citizens to easily register to vote and receive a ballot by mail, there's no telling how many non-citizens are currently registered to vote."

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon warned that the Justice Department would continue to enforce federal election laws barring noncitizen participation. Dhillon said noncitizens who "commit fraud so they can vote in American elections" violate federal law and should expect prosecution.

"Let this criminal complaint serve as a reminder that the Justice Department stands ready to enforce the laws Congress enacted to ensure only American citizens vote in federal elections."

Canada's Euthansia Progrm: Health Canada’s Sixth Annual Report confirms that 16,499 Canadians were killed by the state’s euthanasia program in 2024 which represents 5.1 percent of all deaths in the country, more than one in every twenty.

Euthanasia now kills more Canadians annually than any cause except abortion, cancer, heart disease, and accidents. And yet MAiD appears nowhere in the official list of leading causes of death. Why?

Because, the government explains, it records only the underlying illness that led the patient to choose death. Cancer, for instance as the cause of death. The lethal injection itself is recorded as… nothing. It’s not recorded at all.

Read that again. A person is alive. A doctor or nurse ends his life. He is dead. And the state’s records show that he died of cancer.

The state that controls what words mean, controls what citizens are permitted to see and in many cases, what the public actually is allowed to think. Certainly to say. And a population trained not to see a lethal injection as a cause of death will not see anything the state prefers it not to see.

Behind Nepal’s Apocalyptic Floods: Glacial Collapse and a 4.4-Magnitude Quake

The cause of Nepal’s historic floods is now becoming clear. A massive high-altitude glacial collapse near the Nepal-Tibet border unleashed a deadly chain of events, according to findings from the U.S. Geological Survey reported by the BBC.

The collapse occurred in a mountainous area and triggered seismic activity. The resulting water surge caused catastrophic destruction downstream along the Trishuli River. Floodwaters also spread across several regions of Nepal, turning a natural disaster into a wide-scale emergency.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported recording a 4.4-magnitude earthquake around the same time security footage was taken near the Nepal-Tibet border. The timing adds another alarming detail to the disaster, which sent an enormous wall of water racing down from the mountains.

CNN has also reported that major sections of Himalayan ice are melting. At the same time, rocky mountain slopes are becoming less stable and more fluid. Those conditions have left Nepal increasingly vulnerable to sudden and destructive events like this one.

Videos shared online showed the flash flood striking with incredible force. One clip appeared to show a massive surge destroying a border-crossing building as terrified people ran for their lives. The water was estimated to reach between 8 and 10 meters high. (A meter equals 3.28 feet)

At last count, more than 350 people had died in the floods. More than 1,300 others remained missing or unaccounted for across the region. The missing included at least 65 American citizens.

But one commissioner used the closing comments to signal that immigration enforcement remains a central concern as the agreement returns for consideration.

This is all about ICE and the deportation of illegals with the assistance of PBSO

Commissioner Christopher McVoy said the city has a legal basis to limit the use of local law enforcement resources for federal immigration enforcement.

McVoy pointed to a recent federal court decision involving Washtenaw County, Michigan, where the court dismissed the U.S. Department of Justice’s challenge to local policies that limited assistance to federal immigration authorities.

“The federal government cannot force us to do things,” McVoy said, arguing Lake Worth Beach should not dilute local policing resources with federal immigration enforcement. “We have a legal basis to push back. And we should.”

Netanyahu said he discussed the options with Trump during their July 28 meeting at the White House and expressed doubts that negotiations could produce an agreement with Iran’s current leadership.

“I doubt, however, that an agreement can be reached with that group there, with those savages,” Netanyahu said. “I tell you — an agreement cannot be reached,” he added.

The remarks were made at an event in Jerusalem for Israeli settlers in the West Bank and were reported by AFP, with the comments independently carried by outlets including CBS News, Arab News and the Times of Israel.

Netanyahu said his conversation with Trump involved three possible approaches to Iran:

1. pursuing a diplomatic agreement
2. resuming military action
3. tightening economic pressure.

He said he supported the third option and praised Trump for choosing to intensify economic pressure rather than immediately launching another major military campaign.

Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman sided with President Trump on aggressive AI development over the weekend, rejecting calls from fellow Democrats to slow down, and warning that every delay benefits Beijing.

Fetterman posted on X on Saturday, sharing a Bloomberg analysis that examined the narrowing U.S. lead over China in artificial intelligence and the faster pace at which Chinese companies are deploying advanced models. His message was blunt: stop panicking about data centers and start competing. Fox News Digital reported that the Democrat dismissed what he called "AI doomsdaying" and accused critics of playing into China's hands.

The senator framed the stakes in national-security terms:

"AI supremacy and energy dominance underpins our national security. China continues to fuel and benefit from our overreaction. I reject the political pandering and hyperbole over data centers or AI doomsdaying."

Obama-appointed U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani has lifted her nationwide injunction blocking new Postal Service safeguards for federal mail-in ballots.

The move came after the Supreme Court rejected a separate injunction tied to the same election-order fight. The Justice Department then asked Talwani to reconsider her own ruling. On Wednesday, she issued a nine-page order lifting the freeze.

Talwani acknowledged that the League of Women Voters plaintiffs are “not likely to prevail as to ripeness” unless they revise their complaint now that the Postal Service has issued a final rule.

The ruling did not read like a change of heart. Reporting around the order said the Supreme Court’s decision “compelled” Talwani to lift the injunction. At the same time, she continued to warn that President Trump’s election-integrity directive could create “chaos.”

The result is clear: The injunction is down, and the USPS rulemaking can move forward.

Albany woman charged in alleged ISIS-inspired Capitol bombing plot after FBI sting with three undercover operatives

Federal agents arrested a 35-year-old Albany woman on charges she plotted to bomb the New York State Capitol for ISIS, a case built over weeks by three undercover FBI operatives who posed as terrorist allies and handed her a disabled explosive device.

Jessica Bowie stepped out of a meeting on August 19 believing she had just taken possession of a working bomb. FBI agents were waiting. 

The arrest, the Washington Examiner reported, capped an operation in which three paid FBI sources, all with histories the bureau described as "credible and reliable", had spent weeks drawing out Bowie's intentions, supplying her with inert weapons, and documenting her escalating plans.

Bowie now faces a single charge of attempting to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization, carrying up to 20 years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, and a lifetime of supervised release.

A federal judge ordered her held without bail after her initial court appearance the following day.

Tom Homan had four words for Democrat Angie Nixon that ended the conversation.

Angie Nixon – the Democratic Socialist who just shocked Florida by winning the Senate primary – went on a podcast and told listeners that ICE agents cannot tell the difference between black Americans and illegal immigrants from Jamaica or Nigeria.

Then she went further. "They are going to racially profile us," Nixon said, "and they are going to escalate things, and they are going to shoot and kill us." Not a policy critique. Not a call for reform.

A direct claim that federal immigration agents are hunting black Americans.

Homan's response was four words: "That's a ridiculous statement."

Then he explained exactly why. "We don't racially profile. Everybody we talk to, we have reasonable suspicion of aliens to talk to them and to arrest them we need probable cause. That's what the law says. And that's what we do."

He wasn't finished.

"We don't arrest people based on the color of their skin,” he said. “I'm actually an equal opportunity deporter. I deported people to 180 countries last year. I don't care if you're from Asia, you're from Europe, or you're from other countries. If you're in the country illegally, you will be deported, regardless of the color of your skin."

Then he explained exactly why. "We don't racially profile. Everybody we talk to, we have reasonable suspicion of aliens to talk to them and to arrest them we need probable cause. That's what the law says. And that's what we do."

The Senate Leadership Fund and its allied groups have raised more than half a billion dollars ahead of November's midterm elections, a sum the organization calls the largest Senate campaign haul in American history.

Alex Latcham, executive director of the Senate Leadership Fund, announced the milestone in a statement to Fox News Digital, crediting Senate Majority Leader John Thune with driving the fundraising effort and previewing an aggressive advertising campaign targeting Democratic Senate candidates in five states: Alaska, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, and North Carolina.

The $500 million-plus figure covers the Senate Leadership Fund, the top GOP campaign group aligned with Thune, and its affiliated organizations. Latcham framed the war chest as both a record and a necessity, warning that Democrats under Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer want to drag the country backward.

Latcham warns Republicans cannot afford to slow down--In his statement, Latcham paired the fundraising boast with a pointed message about the stakes:

"Thanks to Leader John Thune and our generous investors, Senate Leadership Fund and its affiliated groups have raised more resources than any other Senate effort in history."

But the executive director made clear he sees no room for complacency. Latcham added:

"However, we cannot slow down as Chuck Schumer and Radical Democrats seek to take our nation back to open borders, rampant crime and crushing inflation."

Canada says its counter-tariffs will come into effect on Sept. 8.

His announcement comes after trade talks between Washington and Ottawa collapsed on Aug. 21, with new 50 percent U.S. tariffs on about US$20 billion (CA$28 billion) of Canadian products taking effect on Aug. 22, and Canada vowing to retaliate with its own tariffs.

“Canada has been ripping off the United States of America for years. Their ridiculously high tariffs on our Farmers and farm products has made life impossible for these great American Patriots,” Trump said in a social media post on Aug. 24.

“Build in the U.S. and there are ZERO TARIFFS. Canada will be treated like a State no longer! On Trade, and in other ways, also, they are among the worst Nations in the World to deal with. They feel entitled, and yet, WE DON’T NEED CANADA, THEY NEED US!”

Trump said that starting in the new year, all Canadian cars, trucks, and auto parts will be subject to a 50 percent tariff. Current tariffs on Canadian autos are 25 percent.

The U.S. president also included steel in the new announcement. Canadian steel, along with aluminum and copper, is already tariffed at 50 percent.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Monday that new U.S. secondary sanctions in the pipeline aim to block all potential sources of revenue for Iran, telling nations to cut economic ties to Tehran or face U.S. retaliation.

Bessent added it’s “no longer acceptable to operate in the gray spaces” of Iran conflict as US threaten sanctions against Tehran’s trade partners.

The treasury secretary did not name what countries could face potential secondary sanctions from the United States, but China, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates are Iran’s largest trade partners.

“Let there be no ambiguity as to the position of the United States,” Bessent said at a Monday afternoon news conference. “An economic engagement of any kind with this murderous regime will expose those responsible to the full reach of American power.”

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy lit up the internet after a Department of Transportation sponsored YouTube series, “The Great American Roadtrip,” showed a family talk that many parents will recognize.

Duffy and his daughter Paloma were discussing college plans when she said she would love to attend Harvard University because of its famous academic reputation and her belief that she would get the best education there.

Duffy asked her if she would push him and her mother to let her go if she were accepted, and Paloma said she probably would, adding that if she got in, she felt they “can’t say no.”

That is when Dad delivered the line that sent the elite-school fan club reaching for the smelling salts: “Well, me and mom can say no.”

His point was that he wanted her to arrive at her beliefs honestly, not be force-fed one political lane by a campus culture that conservatives have long seen as far more interested in activism than open debate.

He said the problem is that “they are so good at it,” adding that people can come from a conservative school and a conservative family, only to get “converted and contorted.”

That line hit home for a lot of parents who have watched colleges sell themselves as temples of learning while too often acting like ideological car washes, where students go in with a full set of values and come out polished in the approved shade of progressive gray.

A Biden appointee in Manhattan just told the American people that our government lacks the authority to prevent immigrants from countries with high public benefit dependency rates from entering the United States.

Read that again. She’s saying we must accept applicants we know are likely to become financial burdens on American taxpayers, even when our own State Department has identified the risk.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio implemented a policy that any reasonable person would call prudent. The directive covered 75 countries where immigrants historically show high rates of public assistance dependency. Not a travel ban. Not a permanent prohibition. A pause to review individual cases and require additional evidence that applicants wouldn’t immediately jump onto welfare rolls. This isn’t radical. It’s responsible governance.

The Immigration and Nationality Act gives the Secretary of State broad authority over visa issuance but not with this judge.

"Stop Nick Shirley Act"

Newsom signs bill critics call the 'Stop Nick Shirley Act,' threatening fines and jail for exposing nonprofit immigration workers

California's governor signed a law that could punish anyone who posts information or images of nonprofit immigration workers with fines up to $50,000 and prison time, and critics say it was written to silence one independent journalist.

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 2624 into law on Saturday, expanding the state's "Safe at Home" program to cover employees of nonprofits that help people navigate the U.S. immigration system.

The bill, introduced in February by Assemblywoman Mia Bonta, an Alameda Democrat, penalizes anyone who distributes or posts information or images of immigration workers in a way that "incites violence or threats." Violators face fines ranging from $10,000 to $50,000, plus sentences from one year in county jail to state prison time.

Republican Assemblyman Carl DeMaio of San Diego coined the nickname that stuck: the "Stop Nick Shirley Act." The bill, he argued, is meant to intimidate people "trying to shine light on bad behavior." The law does not take effect until October 1, 2027, by which point Newsom, limited by term limits, will no longer hold office.

Terry Schanz, chief of staff to Democratic Assemblywoman Tina McKinnor, interrupted Shirley while he was conducting an interview outside the Capitol. Schanz held up a printed flyer and, according to reporting attributed to the New York Post, made a crude public statement about the journalist:

"Did you guys hear that Nick Shirley has a small penis allegedly?"

Schanz earns $17,319 per month in taxpayer-funded compensation. Multiple complaints were filed against him with the legislature's human resources department following the incident. The content of those complaints and the identity of the filers have not been disclosed.

When the government's response to embarrassing journalism is not a rebuttal but a criminal statute, the problem is not the journalist.

Clinton's milestone arrives at a moment when the Democratic Party he helped build looks almost nothing like the one he led. The centrist, business-friendly "New Democrat" brand that carried him to two terms has given way to an activist base that treats his legacy with ambivalence at best.

Clinton himself has acknowledged the tension. He once shrugged off the socialist surge in New York and insisted Democrats were "in good shape", a characterization that even sympathetic observers found generous given the party's internal fractures.

Those fractures have only widened. Figures from media commentators to Senate candidates have openly questioned whether the party's leftward drift has become a structural problem. Bill Maher declared Democrats were being "colonized" by socialists, and candidates in competitive races have echoed progressive rhetoric that would have been unrecognizable in the Clinton era.

Clinton's birthday leaves just one living current or former president under 80: Barack Obama, who turned 65 earlier in August. The other four, Joe Biden at 83, President Donald Trump and George W. Bush both at 80, have all crossed the threshold within weeks of one another, USA TODAY reported.

Fetterman breaks with progressive allies again, backs Trump's AI agenda and warns China gains from U.S. delay

Sen. John Fetterman is siding with the Trump administration on artificial intelligence development, rejecting calls from his own party's left flank to slow down, and warning that every delay hands China a strategic advantage.

The Pennsylvania Democrat posted on X over the weekend dismissing what he called "AI doomsdaying," sharing a Bloomberg analysis that examined the narrowing U.S. lead over China in AI and the faster pace at which Chinese companies are deploying advanced models. His message was blunt: pulling back on AI development and data center construction doesn't protect Americans, it helps Beijing.

Fox News Digital reported that Fetterman wrote on X:

"AI supremacy and energy dominance underpins our national security. China continues to fuel and benefit from our overreaction. I reject the political pandering and hyperbole over data centers or AI doomsdaying."

That stance puts Fetterman squarely alongside President Trump, who days earlier encouraged governors and local officials at the White House to welcome AI data center construction in their communities.

It also widens the gap between Fetterman and the progressive wing of his own party, a gap that has been growing for months across multiple issues.
