Mamdani on a week's vacation somewhere in upstate New York

NYC Mayor Mamdani leaves town for weeklong upstate vacation as deputy takes the reins

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani headed upstate Sunday for a weeklong family vacation, handing day-to-day control of the nation's largest city to First Deputy Mayor Dean Fuleihan, and scheduling zero public events while he's gone.

City Hall confirmed Mamdani's departure on August 16, 2026, saying only that the mayor would be somewhere in upstate New York. The office declined to disclose the exact location. Fuleihan, the first deputy mayor, will oversee city operations until Mamdani returns, expected roughly a week later. Senior staff will provide the mayor with regular updates during his absence, WABC-TV reported.

No public events are planned for the duration of the trip. That means a full week without a press conference, ribbon-cutting, or town hall from the mayor of a city of more than eight million people.

The timing raises a fair question: what, exactly, is Fuleihan managing while the boss is away? City Hall offered no details on pending decisions, ongoing crises, or specific briefing schedules. The mayor's office treated the whole thing as routine, family time, nothing to see.

@11:29...LOL...Ask the Deputy Mayor as they are hiding the info. I'm sure he doesn't do ordinary labor anymore.
