The Florida Department of Motor Vehicles is unveiling a new driver's license design

Executive Director Dave Kerner says in addition to the Real ID, the new license will show proof of citizenship.

Florida's new Save Act requires drivers show proof of citizenship when applying for or renewing a new drivers' license. To prove citizenship, Floridians must present a US birth certificate, valid US passport or naturalization certificate.

The new license also incorporates an orange that appears inside the "O" in Florida and "Let us Alone" written on the back.

Also, UV ink and a ghost image of the driver is visible under special lighting. The last design update was in 2017. The new design will be issued Wednesday, Sept 30th, with proof of citizenship requirements beginning January 1st, 2027.

Thomas rebukes Supreme Court for refusing Florida's case against states licensing illegal immigrant truckers

Justice Clarence Thomas accused the Supreme Court on Tuesday of abandoning its constitutional duty after the majority refused to hear Florida's lawsuit alleging that California and Washington illegally issued commercial driver's licenses to illegal immigrants who cannot read English road signs, a policy Thomas linked directly to fatal highway crashes.

Thomas, joined by Justice Samuel Alito, argued the Court had no right to turn the case away. Florida filed its complaint under the Supreme Court's original jurisdiction, the only legal avenue available when one state sues another. By declining to hear it, Thomas wrote in his dissent, the Court left Florida with nowhere else to go.

The case centers on a straightforward claim: federal law requires commercial driver's license applicants to pass a driving test, demonstrate sufficient understanding of English, and show lawful immigration status.

Florida alleged that California and Washington issued CDLs in violation of all three requirements, and that the consequences of those decisions traveled across state lines...An 80,000-pound problem.

Thomas did not mince words about the stakes. In his dissent, he wrote:

"An illegal alien who cannot read English road signs cannot drive an 80,000-pound tractor-trailer."

A report from Fox News cites federal law enforcement sources in revealing that Jashanpreet Singh, 21, encountered Border Patrol agents in the El Centro Sector in California in March 2022.

Then he was released into the interior of the country, as per Biden's practices, pending an immigration hearing.

Online reports said the driver, now "suspected of killing three people in a DUI crash on the 10 freeway in Ontario, CA," was revealed to be "an Indian illegal alien."

He is in custody now in San Bernardino County, where Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a detainer on him.

Here’s what should make every American furious about this whole mess.

California passed a law in 2013 that allows residents to obtain driver’s licenses regardless of their immigration status.

Think about that for a second – California politicians decided that foreign nationals who broke federal law to get into our country should be rewarded with the privilege of operating motor vehicles on American roads.

And it gets worse.

This same broken system allowed Singh to get a commercial driver’s license to operate massive trucks, even though he couldn’t understand basic English road signs.

The state of California essentially handed a loaded weapon to someone who had no business being in this country, let alone driving a truck that can kill entire families.

Harjinder Singh, a truck driver and an undocumented immigrant from India, is accused of causing a fatal 18-wheeler crash on the Florida Turnpike on August 12, 2025. He killed three American citizens.

Attorney General James Uthmeier announced Thursday that his office will issue both civil and criminal subpoenas against White Hawk Carriers, the trucking company that employed Singh.

Arrest of Illegal by Florida Highway Patrol

Lake Worth traffic stop leads to arrest and escape attempt by undocumented driver

"On July 21, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper spotted a white van with no front bumper and a broken taillight on Lake Worth Road near I-95. When the trooper attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver kept going before eventually stopping in an empty parking lot.

Troopers discovered that neither the driver nor the passenger had a valid license, and both admitted they were from Guatemala. Border Patrol determined the men were in the U.S. illegally and requested that they be brought to their Riviera Beach station.

While being transported, both men jumped out of the patrol truck near I-95 and Blue Heron Boulevard, running into the woods. A perimeter search was put in place, but the passenger was not found.

The driver, who had been arrested for driving without a license, now faces an additional charge of escape.

Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) issued a correction to a transgender TikToker who tried to change their gender on a driver’s license.

James Rose, a trans actor known as "Jamesissmiling" on TikTok, shared a now-deleted video on Dec. 20 claiming to have found a loophole in Florida’s laws.

"I just got my gender changed on my driver’s license in the free f---ing state of Florida," Rose said. "My god, Ron DeSantis would be screaming right now if he knew about this. This little license now says female on it."

FLHSMV cancelled his license and sent him a corrected one that says “male.” Executive Director Dave Kerner assured the public, "We maintain quality assurance in our program to ensure it won't happen again."

Juana Cabrera Leon Guerrero, a U.S. citizen and Chief of the Northern Mariana Islands’ Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV), and Yongde “Ivan” Li, a citizen of China, were both sentenced as part of the scheme, which involved illegal immigrants paying a “street broker” up to $1,700 for a new driver’s license and $300 for a renewal, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Li paid Guerrero and others payments of $500 cash for the illegal transactions, while also providing meals and free taxi services.

Leon Guerrero was sentenced to 60 months incarceration, ordered to pay a $15,000 fine and $100 special assessment fee and serve three years of supervised release following imprisonment.

Li was sentenced to 10 months incarceration, ordered to pay $200 in special assessment fees, complete 50 hours of community service in lieu of a fine, and serve five years of supervised release following imprisonment.

Bay State licenses have stayed off the list of those no longer accepted by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, because Massachusetts issues the same standard driver's license to everyone.

As of July 1, some licenses from Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii and Vermont have been considered "invalid" in Florida, as a result of an immigration law Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed earlier this year. All four of these states issue driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants.

"Florida will not accept driver licenses from those who cannot provide proof of lawful presence in the United States. By doing this, we commit to a safer Florida," said Florida Highway Patrol Executive Director Dave Kerner.

But for Massachusetts, which on July 1 began implementing a new law allowing undocumented immigrants to legally drive, the Florida law won't apply.

DeSantis, who is also running for president in 2024, announced that the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has published a list of out-of-state license classes that are now invalid in Florida.

That list targets certain licenses given to illegal immigrants in Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island and Vermont. It does not apply to typical driver licenses, but those with certain limitations -- including those that state they are "not for federal identification" are not REAL ID compliant or that are dubbed "limited purpose."

At first glance, this policy may seem like a step forward for safety and equity, however, upon closer inspection it is clear that this proposal is a mistake. Illegal immigration is a serious issue and it should not be encouraged or rewarded. Allowing illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses sends the wrong message and could lead to an increase in illegal immigration into the state.

The proposal would have had Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles issue the cards to immigrants who pass the state’s driving test, have paid Indiana taxes in the past year, submitted to a fingerprint background check and provide proof of auto insurance."

CBP Agents Seize Large Shipments Of Fake U.S. Driver’s Licenses From Hong Kong

On Friday, Customs and Border Patrol agents seized several containers carrying more than 1,000 fake American driver’s licenses in Indianapolis that had recently been smuggled into the U.S. from Hong Kong.

Another shipment seized last week contained more than 1,200 fraudulent driver’s licenses. The containers were bound for addresses in Chicago and New York. The contents were labeled as “Game Card” with a value of $20.00. The three containers held 358, 482, and 367 fake identifications.

Renewing my Driver's License

On Friday, I went to the new $11 million dollar Palm Beach County Tax Collector's office on Military Trail just south of Lake Worth Road. It has 37,000 square feet and 65 employees. The three with whom I spoke were efficient and to the point. There was no time for small talk.

Basically, the only problems I encountered were driving around three times in order for a parking space to open up (get there at least 1/2 hour before your appointment) and then trying to figure out whether I had to stand in line or just go to the desk to sign in as I had a definite appointment. There were no direction signs telling customers where to go.  I recommend if any of you have to go there, make an appointment.

They have a  computerized system that sorts customers to different clerks who handle payments, process filings and take drivers license photos. Make sure you have all the proper paperwork to renew...they go over it with a fine tooth comb even feeling the seal on my certified birth certificate. They wanted some other ID and I gave them my conceal carry license.  The clerk said, "That doesn't work for me."

All in all it was a painless experience...got my driver's license renewed until 2026 (maybe I will still be alive by that time, God willing). Oh, and the photo was not that bad.
