Steve Bannon called on ICE to conduct high-profile raids on businesses that knowingly employ undocumented workers, urging the arrest and “perp walk” of CEOs and COOs to deter illegal hiring.

He pressed for expanded state and local cooperation under ICE’s 287(g) program—pointing to Florida’s model.

Bannon proposed a three-strike penalty system for offending employers, escalating from warnings and fines to criminal charges on the third offense, aiming to eliminate the job magnet driving illegal immigration.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis set the model for state cooperation with ICE on enforcing immigration law.

He signed a bill that required that every sheriff’s department and certain branches of state law enforcement participate in ICE’s 287(g) program that deputized them to enforce certain federal immigration laws.

As of Saturday, Florida will enact some of the strictist anti-immigration laws in the country.

CS/CS/SB 1718 - Immigration makes the following changes:

• Transporting a minor or more than five undocumented people into the state carries a second-degree felony penalty.

• Companies with 25 or more employees will have to use the federal E-Verify system when hiring workers. Penalties for employers who don’t verify their employees’ status could face suspension of their licenses to operate.

• Local governments will be banned from contributing money to organizations creating ID cards for undocumented immigrants, and driver’s licenses issued to non-citizens will be barred from use in Florida. Illegal migrants also could face felony charges by displaying a false ID to obtain employment.

• Hospitals receiving state and federal Medicaid reimbursements will be required to track how much money is spent on undocumented immigrants in emergency rooms and must ask if a patient is in the country legally.

• A 2014 law that allowed undocumented immigrants to be admitted to practice law in Florida will be repealed.

• The Division of Emergency Management’s Unauthorized Alien Transport Program get $12 million to continue the migrant-relocation program of transporting asylum-seekers to different places around the country.

Those on the other side of law continue to justify why they are needed.

And they always come to Lake Worth Beach where this sort of action is encouraged and diversity welcomed by these liberal commissioners.

Protesters took to the streets in Jupiter and at City Hall in Lake Worth Beach this past weekend to oppose new state legislation that targets undocumented immigrants, warning it will starve key industries of workers and further marginalize the many undocumented residents who call South Florida home.

Several dozen immigrants and activists marched and waved signs in separate events in the two cities, the latest in a series of manifestations against the new law, Senate Bill 1718, which takes effect July 1.

The protesters warned that the legislation, which requires businesses to check job applicants’ legal status and makes it a crime to transport an undocumented immigrant into the state, will prompt many undocumented immigrants to leave and could discourage others from calling police during emergencies or seeking medical care. Governor Ron DeSantis is taking action to stop the Biden-backed flood of illegal immigration in Florida. The governor’s office announced Thursday that it would push the state legislature to increase penalties for human smuggling, strengthen laws surrounding the detention of illegal migrants, and mandate the use of E-Verify by employers. The governor said he proposed the new measures in response to “the deleterious effects of the Left’s open borders agenda.”

“With this legislation, Florida is continuing to crack down on the smuggling of illegal aliens, stopping municipalities from issuing ID cards to people here illegally, and ensuring that employers are hiring American citizens or those here legally,” DeSantis said in a statement.

The new measures will also require public and private employers’ universal use of E-Verify to determine employment eligibility. Local governments will be prohibited from issuing IDs to illegal aliens (Are you listening LAKE WORTH?), and all out-of-state licenses given to illegal immigrants will be invalidated. The measures also include new election protections, requiring newly-registering voters to verify they are legal Florida residents.

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) sent letters to six companies requiring they provide documentation proving they are following the Sunshine State’s E-Verify law.

The law requires private employers to verify a person’s employment eligibility after accepting an offer for a job.

The state requires an affidavit from each company to demonstrate they are performing the verifications. The affidavit must say that the company has terminated the employment of all unauthorized aliens employed by the company in the state of Florida, will not intentionally or knowingly employ an unauthorized alien in the state of Florida, will fully comply with section 448.095(3)(b), Florida Statutes.

The law was enacted on January 1st, 2021, after a DeSantis signature in 2020.

We need E-Verify

Economist George Borjas of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government estimates that illegal immigration reduces native-born workers’ wages by between $99 billion and $118 billion a year. The economic gains from illegal immigration, he finds, flow mainly to those who employ illegal workers.

Isn't it high time that we had E-Verify as a state and federal law?  Florida, Indiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Texas mandate E-Verify for public employees and state contractors--we need E-verify for ALL workers. [LawLogix]

Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) has introduced H.R. 4760, the Securing America's Future Act. This legislation would:

• End Chain Migration
• End the Visa Lottery • Require all employers to use E-Verify within 2 years
• End Sanctuary Cities
• Secure the border
• Grant renewable visas and work permits to approximately 690,000 DACA recipients

H.R. 4760 has 85 cosponsors and is, by far, the best DACA proposal on the table in Congress, says Numbers USA.

E-Verify passes in U.S. Judiciary Committee

LAST NIGHT'S VOTE WAS A BIG MILESTONE,

The U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee last night voted 20-10 for H.R. 3711. The bill would require every employer to use the electronic E-Verify system to guarantee that U.S. jobs go only to American workers and foreign citizens with official work permits.
No more hiring of illegal foreign workers under this bill.

This has for 21 years been NumbersUSA's TOP PRIORITY for fighting illegal immigration. I believe it would be more effective than all other proposals combined in stopping future illegal migration.
NumbersUSA activists were successful in pushing the House Judiciary Committee to pass similar E-Verify bills on Sep. 21, 2011, on Dec. 16, 2014 and on March 3, 2015.

But first, Republican Speaker John Boehner, and then, Republican Speaker Paul Ryan, blocked the E-Verify bill from coming to the floor for a vote. Great news on E-verify - Moving ahead in Florida

Once every twenty years, Florida's Constitution provides for the creation of a revision commission for the purpose of reviewing Florida's Constitution. The Constitution Revision Commission will hold public hearings across the state over the next 12 months to identify issues and evaluate possible changes to the Constitution. One such change being promoted by the group Floridians For E-Verify Now is a constitutional amendment requiring employers to use E-Verify to check the workplace eligibility of new hires.

E-Verify is a proven federal system for reserving American jobs for citizens and legal residents. For years, Florida activists tried to persuade the state legislature to protect American workers by making E-Verify usage mandatory but were denied time and again. Any amendment proposed by the Commission will be placed on the 2018 General Election ballot, and would need 60 percent approval by voters to be added to the Constitution.

You can take action by attending upcoming Constitutional Revision Commission's public hearings and voicing support for the proposed E-Verify Amendment. Below are the first hearings. We will notify you about subsequent ones.

Now that Donald Trump will soon be the president of the United States, it is time that Congress pass E-Verify and send a clear message to the world that American jobs are for U.S. citizens and to those immigrants with work visas.

Florida Executive Orders - Effective Jan. 2011, Executive Order (EO) 11-02 requires E-Verify used by all state agencies and contractors assigned to perform work pursuant to a state agency contract. EO 11-116 clarifies that the E-Verify requirement for state contractors applies to "all contracts for the provision of goods and services to the state in excess of nominal value." Penalties include possible denial of future projects.
