This move is a bold jab at a system many conservatives see as prioritizing foreign workers over homegrown talent.

At its core, DeSantis’s directive to the Florida Board of Governors is a push to end the practice of hiring foreign nationals through H-1B visas for roles at public universities, claiming it sidelines local and American workers.

Standing at the University of Florida -- where over 150 staff members currently hold H-1B visas, more than any other state institution -- DeSantis made his case loud and clear. He’s not just suggesting a tweak; he’s demanding a complete overhaul of hiring practices.

Trump Imposes $100K Fee on H-1B Visas

American companies are laying off their American technology workers and seemingly replacing them with H-1B workers (cheap labor)

Today, President Donald J. Trump signed a Proclamation to restrict the entry into the United States of certain H-1B aliens as nonimmigrant workers, requiring a $100,000 payment to accompany or supplement H-1B petitions for new applications to curb abuses that displace U.S. workers and undermine national security.

The Proclamation restricts entry for aliens as nonimmigrants to perform services in specialty occupations in the H-1B program unless their petition is accompanied by a $100,000 payment.

It directs the Secretary of Homeland Security to restrict approvals for petitions from aliens that are currently outside the United States that are not accompanied by the payment, and allows case-by-case exemptions if in the national interest.

The Proclamation requires employers to retain documentation of payment remittance, with the Secretary of State verifying payment during the petition process and the Departments of State and Homeland Security denying entry for non-payment for the relevant aliens and taking other relevant steps needed to implement the Proclamation.

It will not be applied to existing holders of valid visas re-entering the country. "The proclamation does not apply to aliens who: are the beneficiaries of petitions that were filed prior to the effective date of the proclamation, are the beneficiaries of currently approved petitions, or are in possession of validly issued H-1B non-immigrant visas."

President-elect Donald Trump is setting a course to keep the H-1B visa program honest and "stop the grift" in the program, political analyst Dick Morris told Newsmax Saturday.

Morris further said on Newsmax's "The Count" that he does not think there is a divide among conservatives concerning the program, which allows companies to hire foreign workers for employment in specialty occupations.

"I think Trump is just enforcing his will," Morris said. "That program has been rife with corruption ever since it started under the Clinton administration. [Alejandro] Mayorkas, the head of the immigration service, was literally working with Hillary's brother to get H-1B visas issued for a Chinese company that was producing weapons of mass destruction."

The decision is a big labor rights win for American employees because it recognizes a president can use his authority under section 212(f) of federal law to block the inflow of foreign workers if they have a damaging impact on Americans’ economic circumstances.

The lawsuit was filed in the name of 169 contract workers from India and their spouses. The Indians hold valid H-1B visas and are being denied entry to the United States to retake jobs that would otherwise go to Americans.

The Department of Homeland Security says, "The H-1B Program--U.S. businesses use the H-1B visa program to employ foreign workers in specialty occupations that require the theoretical or practical application of a body of highly specialized knowledge, including but not limited to: scientists, engineers, or computer programmers." 

Supposedly American corporations use these foreign workers because they can't find enough American workers.  We know this is blatantly false and believe that it is all about being able to pay foreign workers less money than a degreed American worker. Many of our college graduates can't find employment in their fields and are driving taxis or working at Starbucks just to survive while the government encourages more foreign workers in the IT field.  Before long, our students who need jobs will see the light and will not specialize in the sciences and then we WILL have an actual shortage of workers. What happens then when our citizens are no longer educated or qualified in these engineering jobs?
