Federal employees paid by the government to work for the Unions

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—Taxpayers spent $207 million under Biden ...

to pay federal government employees not for their official government jobs but for hours worked for unions in the 2024 fiscal year, President Joe Biden’s final year in office.

According to data exclusively provided first to The Daily Signal, federal employees worked 3.2 million hours for unions in 2024, about 11.25% of their overall work time.

Federal employees can bill the taxpayer for working with unions by negotiating contracts, resolving disputes, or doing other work for the union.

The Office of Personnel Management tracks how many hours employees bill the taxpayer for union work, and the OPM under President Donald Trump issued a March memo demanding the data.

The American Federation of Government Employees, the largest federal government union, has filed at least nine lawsuits against the Trump administration, and bureaucrats may have used taxpayer-funded union time to help those efforts. Other unions that represent federal employees have also funded left-wing activist groups that are suing the administration.

Trump Cleaning House - Wants accountability in Federal Workforce

Trump’s new federal hiring guidelines

deliver what we’ve all been waiting for

a five-day express lane to fire incompetent bureaucrats clogging the D.C. swamp.

At a Glance--
● The Trump administration has introduced new rules to allow for the firing of underperforming or unsuitable federal employees within five workdays.
● A separate Presidential Memorandum freezes most new federal hiring and requires all new hires to be approved by Trump-appointed agency leadership.
● The moves are part of a broader effort to dismantle the “deep state” and increase accountability in the federal workforce.
● Critics from government unions and progressive groups claim the new rules violate the “due process rights” of federal workers.

“Public service is a privilege, not a right,” acting OPM Director Chuck Ezell said in a statement. For too long, federal employment has been treated as a lifetime entitlement program. This new rule finally brings a measure of accountability to the D.C. swamp.

Read more about it... Of course, groups are organzing to fight it with the usual complaints, i.e., due process, etc. They like the swamp exactly like it is.

Shrinking the Federal Workforce

Trump Cutting Up to 50 Percent in Federal Agencies

The Trump administration plans to cut federal agencies' workforces, it was reported.

An internal White House memo obtained by The Washington Post showed federal officials are preparing for agencies to cut between 8% and 50% of their employees.

The cuts were compiled after 22 agencies submitted plans to President Donald Trump.

Trump, Elon Musk, and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have been focused on streamlining government and reducing fraud, waste, and corruption in federal spending.

Reforms of policy at government agencies

Musk Says Federal Workers Must Report Weekly Accomplishments or Face Termination

Elon Musk has announced a plan requiring all federal employees to submit a report on their on-the-job accomplishments last week or be deemed to have resigned.

Elon Musk said that President Donald Trump has directed the Department of Government Efficiency to send an email to all federal employees asking them to reply with a detailed account of their accomplishments from the past week. Failure to reply would be considered as a resignation.

Over the past month, Musk and DOGE staffers have moved quickly and aggressively to implement reforms across federal agencies. DOGE recently reported $55 billion in savings through canceled grants, asset sales, workforce reductions, and terminated contracts and leases.

To accelerate these efforts, Trump recently signed an executive order directing federal agencies to work with DOGE to eliminate costly or redundant regulations.

This order builds on an earlier directive requiring agency heads to collaborate with DOGE to cut staff and restrict hiring throughout the federal government.

Restructuring the Federal Government

20,000 Federal Workers Accept Trump Buyout — So Far

About 20,000 federal workers have accepted the “buyout” offer put forward by the Trump administration last week, a senior administration official tells Axios.

It’s a significant number of people — about 1% of the federal workforce — but still substantially less than the White House’s target of 5% to 10%.

The offer is open through Thursday, meaning the total could rise, despite heavy opposition from unions and others.

“We expect more to come. If you see what’s happening at USAID, it’s just one piece of the puzzle,” the official said, referring to the rapid restructuring of the federal agency that oversees foreign aid programs.

Trump wants Renewed Energy in the CIA

Trump Offers Buyout to Entire CIA Workforce

The Central Intelligence Agency on Tuesday offered all employees buyouts that were previously extended to millions of federal workers, according to a report.

The buyouts would provide CIA employees with about eight months of pay and benefits in exchange for their resignations.

Administration officials indicated that the intelligence agency decided to offer the buyouts as part of an effort to bring the CIA more in line with President Trump’s priorities, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The same package was extended to more than 2 million civilian federal employees last month but exempted workers with national security roles. Government employees have until 11:59 p.m. Thursday to accept the buyout offer, which the Office of Personnel Management says won’t be extended.

57 USAID employees suspended for defying Executive Order

Dozens of federal officials suspended for defying Trump's executive orders

Dozens of federal officials, mostly top staff members at the U.S. Agency for International Development, have been suspended for trying to interfere with President Donald Trump's freeze on foreign aid.

The workers, estimated to total 57, were placed on leave on Monday for "trying to circumvent his executive order on freezing all foreign aid," according to a report in the Daily Mail.

They are "career government officials."

"We have identified several actions within USAID that appear to be designed to circumvent the president's executive orders and the mandate from the American people," explained Jason Gray, now the new acting administrator of the agency.

Donald Trump’s Plan for Federal Employees to return to work

Donald Trump Warns Federal Workers

The warning from President-elect Donald Trump to federal employees about obligatory return-to-office policies is faced with considerable challenges. These obstacles include union contracts and pre-existing remote work agreements, which could lead to potential legal disputes involving the government’s workforce of 2.3 million.

Trump has made it clear that federal workers who resist returning to in-person work will be “dismissed.” He criticized the agreement between the Social Security Administration and its union, which he referred to as “terrible” and “ridiculous,” that allows for telework until 2029.

Putting such mandates into action faces significant obstacles. Roughly 56% of federal employees are protected by collective bargaining agreements, and a record 10% of federal positions are now classified as fully remote. The General Services Administration has already started reducing office space to reduce costs, which complicates the immediate return-to-office orders.

One main aspect of Trump’s workforce strategy includes the controversial “Schedule F” executive order, which President Biden previously revoked. This order would remove employment protections from policy-related federal jobs, easing the process for political appointees to fire employees. This could affect thousands of career civil servants across various agencies.

The proposed Department of Government Efficiency, headed by business leaders Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, would lead efforts to restructure federal agencies and curb spending.

Ramaswamy argues that these changes could be implemented through executive action without congressional approval, citing recent Supreme Court precedent. The commission intends to make significant cuts to federal contracting and relocate agencies to incentivize employees to leave the government voluntarily.

Government employees working from Home

Bring on the DOGE revolution

Government agencies need to provide some accountability to taxpayers

An explosive new report from Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, who chairs the Senate DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) Caucus, notes that fewer than 1 of out every 10 federal employees (6%) work in an office full time, citing an April survey.

“If you exclude security guards & maintenance personnel, the number of government workers who show up in person and do 40 hours of work a week is closer to 1%!” posted Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur leading DOGE with fellow billionaire entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, in response to the report. “Almost no one.”

Sure, federal employees in many roles can be productive at home. But the report from Ernst, an Iowa Republican, raises serious questions about whether there is any real culture of accountability at federal agencies. Occasional work from home is a privilege—and federal agencies should be careful to limit it to good employees and regularly be tracking performance and productivity metrics.

When it comes to federal employees, the taxpayers are the bosses—and the taxpayers elected Donald Trump, whose allies are signaling it’s a new day in Washington for federal employees. It’s about time.

Thousands of IRS and Government employees for years have not paid their taxes

IRS Agents Owe $1.5B in Unpaid Taxes

149,000 IRS Agents and Gov't Employees Willfully Evade Back Taxes!

“Next time someone whines about trump winning the election and his picks of people to clean the government, show them this video! I hope Vivek and Elon are watching right now. Chop, Chop, Chop Baby, Chop! -Brigitte Gabriel

Over 800 Internal Revenue Service employees still owe millions in back taxes despite heavy criticism from Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA), who is hoping the level of tax waste will be squashed by billionaire Elon Musk, the newly tapped co-leader of the Department of Government Efficiency.

In a letter to the Iowa senator sent on Nov. 8 and shared exclusively with the Washington Examiner, the IRS noted that of the 2,044 employees who reported having balances totaling more than $12 million, 860 employees still have not paid overdue taxes. Only 20 of the 70 employees who “willfully evaded” paying their taxes were removed.

“We haven’t seen a tax revolt like this since the Boston Tea Party,” Ernst said in a statement. “If hardworking Americans dodge taxes, they are faced with steep fines and imprisonment, but it appears that tax collectors in Washington believe those rules are for thee but not for me.”

Stress in the Workplace being addressed in California

Don't bug me after hours!

Proposed Cali Law To Stop Salaried Workers From Employer Contacted Them After Hours

In California, there’s a new piece of legislation under consideration that could transform the work-life balance for salaried employees by making it illegal for bosses to contact them after hours for non-emergency reasons.

This bill, introduced by State Assemblymember Matt Haney, aims to address the pervasive issue of work-related stress exacerbated by the constant connectivity enabled by modern technology.

If passed, the legislation would enforce a minimum fine of $100 for each violation, establishing a legal “right to disconnect” for employees.

Imagine working late and sending an email to an employee for the next day and you get fined.

California passed a law to pay fast-food workers $20.00 an hour. Hard to imagine. No one will be able to buy a McDonalds burger and now salaried employees can't be contacted after hours by their bosses.

Biden Approves pay raise for Federal Employees

Biden Approves Largest Pay Raise for Federal Employees Since Carter Administration

As you read this, you are probably wondering when the economic pain of the Biden administration will end.

If you are like most of us, your wages are being outpaced by inflation and your bank account has yet to stop moving backward since Biden took office.

Well, get ready for that pain to hurt a little more because Biden has decided to give federal workers a big, fat pay raise, the biggest they have received in decades. AND GUESS WHAT--You, the taxpayer is paying for it.

“Executing on the President’s 5.2 percent pay increase for both military and civilian workers recognizes the Federal workforce’s dedication and service to the American people and positions the Federal Government to better compete in the labor market to attract and retain a well-qualified workforce.”

Just to put this into perspective, the average federal worker has a salary of $98,943, while the average private industry worker has a salary of about $58,000, and our taxes pay their salaries.

Who can you Trust?

Dozens of Broward Sheriff’s deputies face indictment in burgeoning PPP loan fraud case

Dozens of Broward Sheriff’s Office employees alleged to have fraudulently obtained large loans under the federal COVID-19 Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) are facing an impending indictment that knowledgeable sources said could come any day.

Those involved are said to be mostly from the ranks of BSO deputies and detention deputies, and include ranking officers. Sheriff Gregory Tony is not a target, one source said.

“Anywhere from 50 to 70 guys is the rumor spreading around over here,” said one BSO deputy who, like others interviewed for this story, spoke on condition of anonymity. “Fifteen or 20 are law enforcement and the rest are jailers and, you know, civilians.”

No names were immediately available, but many at BSO who stand accused before a federal grand jury already have been suspended, sources said.

Oath Keepers in the employ of our government?

Hundreds of Oath Keepers Have Worked for DHS in Recent Years, Report Finds

Hundreds of Oath Keepers said they are or were employed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, a report published Monday found—a revelation that comes about two weeks after two leaders of the far-right militia were convicted of seditious conspiracy in connection with the January 6 insurrection.

In a joint investigation with the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), the Project on Government Oversight (POGO) found that more than 300 people on a leaked Oath Keepers membership list described themselves as current or former employees of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agencies including the Border Patrol, Coast Guard, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Secret Service. Layoffs in Lake Worth (Beach) Utility

Layoffs loom as Lake Worth Beach struggles with electric utility issues

The above is the headline from the Palm Beach Post. As Commissioner Omari Hardy said, “It’s going to be a painful time for the city. The fact that we are even considering layoffs when the economy is ostensibly quite strong shows that, as a city, we are not where we need to be.”

All we talk about is spending money such as a new aquatic center. Fix the pool that we have! Stop insisting that we have to be in parity with FPL. We have to run our electric utility to break-even and have cash for capital projects, etc. Commissioners don't want to take money from the utility and give to the General Fund but they continue to put our electric utility in a financial bind.

No pay raises in 2019 for Federal Employees

4 Key Points Nobody’s Addressing About Trump’s Federal Pay Decision

"President Donald Trump announced he’s not granting the usual 2.1 percent pay hike for federal employees, prompting staunch opposition from many Democratic lawmakers.

In recent years, the Congressional Budget Office and conservative think tanks, the Heritage Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute, all produced reports finding federal compensation packages far outpace the private sector."  Nearly one in three federal employees — 32.3 percent in 2015 — are either union members or have jobs covered by an employee association contract.

We are all under the impression that employees in the City of Lake Worth get good employment packages. It has now been suggested by the Lake Worth Finance Advisory Board that the minimum wage be increased to $15.00 for Lake Worth workers. Also, there are some employees at the City who feel that those in the IBEW get preferential treatment by the City in wages, benefits, etc. in comparison to those represented by the PEU and PMSA.

Government employee salaries are good for the most part but federal compensation packages are more than generous. As of 2014, the federal government employed 2,711,000 people (excluding non-civilian military).
