Lesbian Judge says school board can't remove sexually explicit books

A school board in Colorado cannot remove sexually explicit, profane, and “transgender” books from school libraries because the school board is conservative, according to a federal judge touted as the first openly lesbian judge west of the Mississippi.

The ACLU’s Colorado chapter filed a suit on behalf of two minors, the NAACP Wyoming State Area Conference, and the Authors Guild, claiming that the school district engaged in viewpoint discrimination when removing the books.

The judge granted a preliminary injunction in March, forcing the Elizabeth School District (in Elizabeth, a suburb southeast of Denver) to restore the books.

“The court questions what could be more partisan or political than removing books to further the board’s self-described conservative values” said the first LGBT woman to serve as a federal district judge west of the Mississippi.

The judge never even considered whether the “conservative values” involved protecting children’s innocence or prioritizing reading, writing, and arithmetic over sexual lessons at young ages.

Judge Denies Request to Grant Nearly 2000 South Carolina Voter Registrations to 17-Year-Olds

To date, the DMV has positively identified 1,896 who asked to be registered when applying for driver’s licenses but weren’t added to the rolls.

A judge has denied a request by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of South Carolina to compel South Carolina’s Department of Motor Vehicles (SCDMV) and State Election Commission to reopen voter registration in the state and add thousands of eligible 17-year-olds to the voter rolls ahead of the upcoming presidential election.

The ruling, issued on Oct. 25 by Judge Daniel Coble of the Richland County Court of Common Pleas, was handed down in response to a lawsuit brought by the advocacy group, which sought emergency relief to correct what it argued was a systemic error by the SCDMV that prevented eligible 17-year-olds from being registered to vote.

Homeowner Patricia Dilascio was ordered by Roselle Park Municipal Court Judge Gary Bundy to take down anti-Biden signs she had put up with her daughter, Andrea Dick, for violating a borough ordinance prohibiting obscenities, according to NJ Advance Media.

Costs in FY19 were anticipated to be $124 per individual/per day for those in adult detention and $319 per individual/per day for those in family detention.

The American Civil Liberties Union called on the Biden administration to shut down 39 ICE detention facilities nationwide, including the facility in Bristol County Massachusetts run by Sheriff Thomas Hodgson, a strong supporter of former president Trump and his immigration policies.

"The number of detained people is currently lower than it’s been in two decades,” said Naureen Shah, senior advocacy and policy counsel at the ACLU.

Florida Sanctuary Policy is upsetting Far Left Groups

The American Civil Liberties Union and other civil rights organizations issued a travel advisory for Florida on Monday, warning that immigrants could have their constitutional rights violated by legislation the state is considering.

"BREAKING: We and partners have issued a travel advisory urging immigrants and people of color to use extreme caution when traveling in Florida. The state is on the verge of passing a draconian anti-immigrant bill which will endanger our communities," the ACLU tweeted.

California to enact legislation when police can open fire

Several lawmakers and the family of a 22-year-old unarmed black man who was fatally shot by police proposed Tuesday that California become the first state to significantly restrict when officers can open fire. The legislation would change the standard from using "reasonable force" to "necessary force."

That means officers would be allowed to shoot only if "there were no other reasonable alternatives to the use of deadly force" to prevent imminent serious injury or death, said Lizzie Buchen, legislative advocate for the American Civil Liberties Union, which is among the groups behind the measure. [Palm Beach Post] LAKE WORTH — Since President Donald Trump was elected, the immigration issue has been in the news frequently, making Palm Beach State College’s upcoming discussion more timely than ever.

On Thursday, the college is scheduled to host “Immigration & Civil Liberties in a New Era” on the campus west of Lake Worth,  4200 S. Congress Ave.

There will be three speakers:  Nancy Abudu, director of legal operations at the Florida American Civil Liberties Union; John DeLeon, attorney and past president of the Miami-Dade ACLU and Wilfredo Ruiz, communications director at the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

The discussion starts at 6 p.m. and will be held at the Public Safety Building, room 108.

The latest edition of The Lake Worth Herald is hot off the press...

In it, the editor's brain appears to be the only thing on fire. He is finding fault with the ACLU lawyer who was present at the last city commission meeting who was there reminding the commission of rights of the homeless. The editor has found fault with the homeless and their advocates who remained seated during the invocation and the Pledge to the Flag and on shhhhhh, anarchists. From his editorial one can gather that he and his fantastical political friends believe the anarchists are behind the homeless invasion and fear anarchists to a point of absurdity—some excerpts:

“The real crux is not the homelessness; that’s just an anarchists way of kicking down the door.”

The next outlandish statements were—

Lake Worth has an election coming up and these people will use every opportunity to twist and create falsehoods to sway the vote of Lake Worth Citizens who just want to live their life in Lake Worth. Sitting commissioners, Ryan Maier and Christopher Mcvoy APPEAR to be sympathetic to the anarchists [using the word "appear" gets him off the hook of a lawsuit] and if they get another sympathetic commissioner [sympathetic to what?] in the next election, anarchy could rule Lake Worth.

Think of a Lake Worth with no street lights, completely dark at night.That is the atmosphere they desire. [I believe that this statement is libelous but if not that, OUTRAGEOUS].

Think parks and city streets where it is completely unsafe to visit. A city where going out of your home is extremely dangerous. A Lake Worth the majority of citizens don’t want to see. [Again, SILLY]

Please let me remind all of you that 1) Maier and McVoy did not agree or disagree with the homeless or take any stand of any kind, nor did Cara Jennings.  Cara Jennings was there to talk about the Siemens contract, not the homeless. 2) This problem has existed for years and this commission has been in power for years now with the problem  getting worse along with the panhandling. 3) The person that Easton is so scared of owns her own home, she is not homeless, and she was an elected commissioner for two terms. She did not create the homeless situation.

I just wish that our commissioners McVoy and Maier could sue for this defamation.  But it's opinion, and you can get away with just about any lie, twisted as it may be, without  repercussion if you are clever enough.  However, the voters are smarter than some politicos believe even the local press. All the lies didn't win it for them this past March and all their ranting now and silly comments about anarchists won't help them in the future.

If anything is to be learned from our past election, besides having an honest message, it is to honor the people you serve. People before Politics as Ryan Maier said.

ACLU wins; Rick Scott loses

The ACLU is always looking out for the civil rights of all Americans, good, bad or in between. I don't always agree with them. The organization stepped into the fight against drug testing for all those who were enrolled in the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program to submit urine samples to prove they weren't on drugs. The ACLU sued and won in a federal court.

The State of Florida appealed the decision and just lost the appeal.  The 11th Circuit Court said that it was unconstitutional to make those on welfare take drug tests saying it violates the Fourth Amendment.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
