Brandon Gill: 'We've got two different issues here, an immigration issue, and the welfare state issue'

Republicans are discovering billions of taxpayers' dollars going to waste, being spent fraudulently, and abused by American bureaucracy systems, specifically the welfare state. Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, is leading the fraud investigations, rooted in immigration policy issues, in Congress.

"A lot of this is being done by foreigners," Gill said at a Republican Study Committee roundtable on Thursday.

"We've got two different issues here, an immigration issue, and the welfare state issue. We're focusing on the latter here on waste, fraud, and abuse. But when you bring in infinity Third Worlders into American society, from low-trust countries, you kind of expect low-trust behavior," Gill continued.

The goal is not simply to expose fraud – it's to put an end to it.

The federal government spends roughly $1 trillion a year on welfare programs. States pile another $300 billion on top just for Medicaid. Every legal immigrant household drawing benefits pulls from the same pool your grandchildren will be paying off.

Stephen Miller: Somali scandal could be 'greatest financial fraud' in U.S. history

White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller told Fox News host Laura Ingraham Friday that the welfare fraud scandal in Minnesota centered around Somali immigrants could make for the "greatest financial fraud" in the history of the United States.

United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is surging into the Minneapolis area to target illegal immigrants from Somalia after revelations into at least $1 billion in fraud, prompting a probe by the Treasury Department into allegations that some of the stolen funds went to the radical Islamic terrorist group Al-Shabaab. Miller observed during an appearance on "The Ingraham Angle" that almost all of the Somalis who immigrated to Minnesota were on welfare programs.

"The Somali community have been engaged in systematic defrauding of the government for years," Miller told Ingraham. "We're going to discover, ultimately, we are in the throes right now of a full-throated, all-hands-on-deck federal investigation, is that the scope, scale, size and sheer magnitude of the fraud eclipses anybody's worst nightmare."

"According to official government records, 90% of Somali households with children are on federal welfare. The real number is probably 100% because federal records always undercount," Miller said.

"You're talking about a population that has been imported into Minnesota in which virtually every single member of the population is receiving welfare from the federal government. This could very well end up, Laura, being the greatest financial fraud scandal in American history."

Court Blocks Trump From Denying Green Cards to Welfare Recipients

According to Fox News:

A federal appeals court on Wednesday declined to lift an injunction on the Trump administration’s “public charge” rule that would restrict green cards for immigrants deemed likely to be reliant on welfare.

A nationwide injunction that stopped the rule from taking effect was imposed by a federal judge in New York in October. The Trump administration appealed, but the panel of the Second Court of Appeals declined to lift it ahead of a briefing on the merits which is set to wrap up in February and be followed by oral arguments in March.

A standard of not admitting “public charges” to the U.S. has been a part of U.S. law for decades. Yet it has never been formally defined in statute. The Trump administration rule, announced by U.S. Immigration and Citizenship Services in August, sought to do that by defining a “public charge” as an immigrant who received one or more designated benefits for more than 12 months within a 36-month period.

Those benefits would include Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), as well as most forms of Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as food stamps. The rule expands the number of benefits that can be considered from interim guidance issued in 1999.

In case you're wondering ab out illegals:  Programs that serve undocumented immigrants include school meal programs, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), Head Start, and various in-kind emergency services. Undocumented immigrants are also eligible for Emergency Medicaid. This program typically covers acute medical situations including childbirth but not longer-term treatment for chronic conditions, even if they are life-threatening. The services provided vary by state. Emergency Medicaid is estimated to cost about $2 billion per year

The number of food stamps recipients increased by 10.7 million people, which is a 32 percent jump, since President Barack Obama took office. In 2009, 33,490,000 people were on food stamps. As of the last month reported for fiscal year 2016, 44,219,123 people received food stamps.

Welfare began in the 1930's during the Great Depression. Right now, we have 11,400,000 people or 4.1% of our population on welfare and 41,700,000 on food stamps that averages out to a benefit for food at $133.85 a month in 2014. The total government spending is $131.9 billion not including food stamps or unemployment. Florida's participation rate in food stamps (SNAP) is 16.1%.

In Lake Worth, the percentage of persons below poverty level for the years 2009-2013 was 32.3%. So, nearly 1/3rd of our population is poor and many of these people are struggling to keep their homes, living on fixed incomes or not earning a good living. Those not in their own homes are paying high rents just to have a roof over their heads and must find roommates to help.

The mayor is right when she says that we need jobs in Lake Worth.  However, we have changed to a service-based economy, not only here but nationally. Scott Maxwell and Pam Triolo have been looking for government grants or tax dollars for the POC. The Park of Commerce is on track to be developed but it will never generate 5,000 jobs as the mayor claims nor is it worth pouring in $11 million plus dollars to attract these businesses that will never be able to repay the infrastructure costs in what they pay in ad-valorem--not in 100 years. The grant(s) (some of which could be matching dollars) would be coming from tax dollars out of Lake Worth. The city has already heard the voice of the people on taxing them for this undeveloped land but who knows what will happen if they do NOT get the grant(s) as they postponed the last workshop.

Many of those jobs that businesses would create would end once construction was finished and these people would move to other construction jobs in other places. When this country allowed outsourcing of manufacturing jobs, it led to a high percentage of joblessness across the country and with it a loss of skills and inability to find jobs.  This, along with the recession that caused the loss of construction jobs, are the main drivers of poverty.

U.S. News and World Report said that the U.S. economy added only 126,000 jobs in the month of March, making it the worst month for employment gains since December 2013. Revisions also knocked off nearly 70,000 jobs originally reported in the months of January and February. One positive according to Zillow is that the median home value in Lake Worth is $112,500. Lake Worth home values have gone up 15.6% over the past year and they predict they will rise 3.7% within the next year.

ACLU wins; Rick Scott loses

The ACLU is always looking out for the civil rights of all Americans, good, bad or in between. I don't always agree with them. The organization stepped into the fight against drug testing for all those who were enrolled in the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program to submit urine samples to prove they weren't on drugs. The ACLU sued and won in a federal court.

The State of Florida appealed the decision and just lost the appeal.  The 11th Circuit Court said that it was unconstitutional to make those on welfare take drug tests saying it violates the Fourth Amendment.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
