Meeting for the K Street Garage

ATTENTION HANDS OFF SUPPORTERS

IMPORTANT STAKEHOLDER MEETING FOR THE PROPOSED K ST. GARAGE

WHERE--COMPASS COMMUNITY CENTER, 201 NORTH DIXIE HWY

WHEN--APRIL 13 (MONDAY) 6 - 8 PM

In the weeks leading up to the March 10 referendum election, city leaders told us that we couldn’t afford to take care of our existing failing infrastructure like the city hall annex and roads, and we needed to trust them to approve development that would generate the revenue to do that.

The voters said NO, that we wanted to be involved in approving development with long-term leases on public land. Not only did the voters defeat these 2 amendments, it was a wipeout.

Yet now, only one month after this overwhelming defeat, they are moving forward with plans to build a $9 million, 4 ½ level public parking garage on So. K St. with no clear plan for financing the construction, operation and maintenance.

Some city leaders openly support paid street parking to help pay for the garage, and the commission has approved a contract to develop a plan for it. There have been no business outreach and no stakeholder meetings about this.

We feel this is the wrong direction for our city and is a premature move without a solid plan to pay for it. We also believe there are enough other parking options within a short distance of the city center to satisfy parking needs for the foreseeable future.

After nearly two years of meetings, the city will finally hold a public stakeholder meeting: MONDAY, APRIL 13, 6-8 PM, AT COMPASS COMMUNITY CENTER, 201 NORTH DIXIE HWY. We encourage everyone to attend and make your voice heard.

Sincerely,
The Lake Worth For All Team

Top City Executives Spoke at ROLO Meeting

Neighborhood Association, ROLO, met on July 11 with approx 50 in attendance

The main topic of the evening was the Sunset property that sold in 2005 for $1,500,000.

In 2005, we formed Save Our Neighborhood PAC to lobby and ensure that this property would remain Single Family 7 and not have it over-developed in our single family neighborhood. We even went to mediation to no avail.

It has languished through the years with several zoning changes: Agriculture, Single Family 7 and even Medium Density Residential. At the moment, someone, and we don't know who but we can only guess who made another zoning change, has the zoning as NZ - NOT ZONED-- ( 38-LAKE WORTH BEACH ).

There is a neglected house on the 4.02 acres that should be demolished.

We were told that SCG Florida, Chris Raley, has submitted plans to build on the acreage. Their web site says, "SCG Florida, LLC, builds sustainable single-family homes with a pathway to ownership with an ESG focus for affordable living." It was said at the meeting that he wants to build 42 townhouses with 6 as affordable units. There will be no sustainable bonus to the developer. I don't want to speak for our PAC that is now dissolved, but I believe we would agree that 42 townhouses are acceptable for the parcel.

Mayor Betty Resch was also in the audience.

City Attorney, Glen Torcivia (my favorite lawyer)
Commissioner Sarah Malega (my favorite commissioner) District 1
William Waters, (AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, GGP, ID, SEED), Director of Sustainability
 and
Carmen Davis, City Manager. Ms. Davis did not speak to the Sunset property.

Trump WRECKS CNN Hack During Townhall

Harder to lie to people when people can hear the audience

During Wednesday’s Townhall event in New Hampshire, Donald Trump spoke directly to the audience and ignored Kaitlan Collins’ politically biased and outdated questions. He did not engage with her and instead addressed the “gotcha” topics she continually posed throughout the night. As a result, he effectively reduced her role as the moderator.

Despite Collins attempting to start the townhall event with controversial topics and outdated leftist narratives, such as the 2020 election results, January 6th incident, and accusations in the E. Jean Carroll case, Trump received a standing ovation at the introduction. The highly anticipated event looked promising for the former president as he teased it earlier.

During the townhall, Collins talked about the previous election and allegations of fraud, but Trump emphasized the importance of upholding the Constitution and made it clear that he values it very much.

Omari Calls for a Town Hall Meeting on Racial Equity & Policing Reform

"I wanted to discuss racial equity and policing reform with Commissioner Robinson, so I invited him to hold a public meeting with me at City Hall on Monday at 6 PM. I look forward to the conversation. Public participation is encouraged!"

There is nothing like keeping the embers burning! I would imagine that every liberal who feels guilt and believes in the "white privilege" branding hurled on them as well as every white hater around, might participate. :)

We don't have a police problem in our city and it's our city that our commissioners should be concentrating on. PERIOD.

The city web site says:  Sign up to participate in a virtual sunshine meeting with Commissioner Omari Hardy and Commissioner Herman Robinson. The city will be sending an email with ZOOM CALL information 1 hour prior to the meeting.

In order to participate in the virtual zoom meeting, you will need to sign up.

Townhall Traffic Meeting

Commissioner Omari Hardy and PB County Commissioner, Dave Kerner

Kudos to Commissioner Omari Hardy!

Last night, commissioner Omari Hardy had a Community Traffic Meeting at the Lake Worth Casino. It was well attended and the discussion was on the traffic conditions when attempting to get onto 10th Avenue North from North A Street as well as entering and exiting I-95 from 10th Avenue N. Other streets with traffic problems were mentioned--North D Street, Dixie Highway and 22 Avenue North.

There were many concerns regarding A Street while entering 10th Avenue North at the intersection. People enter 10th Avenue and do not stay in their lane closest to them but cross over thus tying up the flow of traffic and causing congestion and back-ups. Suggestions for a left turn arrow was mentioned.

This I-95 Interchange is a long process. Lake Worth could widen the road to 3 lanes on North A street by 10th Avenue North but designs could change in the future.  County Engineers spoke as well as a rep from FDOT.

Lake Worth Commissioners cancel another meeting

When you think about it, the commission's main objective is to get in and out as quickly as possible. That $500 a month car allowance is looking more ridiculous by the minute. One commissioner actually looks irritated just by being there. Even during the roll call, he hesitates answering as if he's not sure that he's there or not. And he's constantly irritated with Commissioner Hardy for asking questions which means he has to stay on the dais minutes more than he wants to.

The goal--put everything on the Consent Agenda (which sometimes totals millions in dollars) if you can legally get away with it. Spend like there's no tomorrow. Tell your bosses (the taxpayers of Lake Worth) as little as possible...who in the hell are they?

How many times have they reduced their meetings to one a month?  Too many.  And according to our Charter they must have at least one meeting a  month. And they are proud that their meetings are short comparing them to a former administration that actually clued the residents in as to what was going on in the city.

I guess that salary raise they voted for themselves didn't entice them to actually work and be accountable to the people they serve. They still take their taxpayer trips, however. no reduction there. And, we never get a report from some of them as to what they accomplished or what they did. The mayor gives a few sound bytes but I would like to have an in-depth report, PowerPoint would be good, giving the details as to what they learned and how it benefits Lake Worth.

So, another meeting is cancelled. It's close to Independence Day. They have to get ready for that Raft Race, a priority and something that actually turns them on.

Lake Worth Beach Complex Plans

“The City of Lake Worth (the “City”) is seeking qualifications from interested firms to provide conceptual designs and cost estimates for the renovation, refurbishing and/or new construction of facilities at the City’s beach complex. The successful firm may also be requested by the City to prepare the construction design documents and provide construction phase services for the selected conceptual design.

The meeting is to choose the best firm based on a scoring process in the RFQ attached. The City conducts these types of selection processes all the time as a course of regular business."

Street Financing Meeting Lake Worth

Comment Up
Katie McGiveron
Chair of Citizens Against Unfair Taxation
"The length of the bond will last longer than the roads."

The bond financing meeting was held last night at Compass and the turn-out was fair considering that very few voters among the 15,000 ever turn out for anything. Then again, it was not advertised well and should have been included in the electric bill where it would have reached everyone in the city. The only reporter there was Margaret Menge of the Lake Worth Tribune along with two local bloggers. It has to make me wonder if this too was planned by the city.

Lake Worth finally admitted that they could ask the voters to approve smaller bond increments, something they would not do the first time around as they knew it would be much more difficult asking for the cash for  subsequent bond approvals. They tried to tell us that they can't be specific as to where this money will be allocated.

Ginny Powell said that there are grants that will take care of road repairs and that Lake Worth should apply. Another resident, Michael Fox, suggested a Citizens Review board to give oversight.  Sounds good in theory but it would end up political like everything else. Peter Timm was still sticking to his point of assessing everyone the same within the city. Bill Hoffman asked how the city could equitably apply the debt. Businessman John Rinaldi asked, "What do you really need and how badly do you need it?" Elise Latorre stated that the city should get its house in order--"cleanup your own house first before you ask me for more money."

One of the ideas that was presented by resident Marcas Kelly was to sell off our golf course.  People have been suggesting this for years (developer oriented interests) but thank God that the course is deed restricted. All money in the capital improvement that was allocated for new greens was stopped in 2011. The course was in an Enterprise Fund and there were so many charges against the golf course that there was no way it could climb out of the hole. They love to always say that our golf course is not making money. Back in 2011, Staff took the golf course out of the Enterprise Fund and moved it to a Revenue Fund giving it a chance to survive. This was a great decision made by our former Finance Director, Steve Carr. At one of our commission meetings it was reported by Juan Ruiz that the golf course is just about breaking even.

As resident Tammy Panza said, "We are in agreement--we need to fix the roads."  But I ask, why then did the city reduce the roads maintenance line item by cutting it in half. The Public Works Director recently stated the budget is around $500,000 with $200,00 a year going to roads maintenance and $300,000 to lighting.

So, the conclusion of the night was:
City still wants to grab the cash
The cash grab could be in smaller increments
Everyone wants the city to fix the potholes
People are not willing to turn over any amount of cash to this commission until they have assurances how and where the money will be spent.  There was a half-hearted acceptance of a smaller bond that could/might be approved by the voters.
