Traffic Calming coming to Federal Highway in Lake Worth Beach
In addition, the Florida Department of Transportation has two projects planned for the road in 2024/25. The first project will start at 10th Avenue to 6th Avenue North. And the second project, a year later, from 6th Avenue North to Arlington Road.

Huge traffic backup on I-95 yesterday
Diesel fuel causes I-95 traffic backup
"LAKE WORTH BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Traffic trouble on I-95, Friday afternoon, when a crash shut down several lanes of northbound traffic in Lake Worth Beach.The crash involved a tractor-trailer and two other vehicles near the 6th Avenue S. exit.
What made matters worse was that the tractor-trailer spilled 50 gallons of diesel fuel.
After 4 p.m., traffic was moving slowly through the two left lanes. Three lanes were still closed.
Minor injuries were reported in the crash."

10th Avenue North & I-95
It has been going on for almost three years! On July 26, Commissioner Omari Hardy conducted a Townhall Meeting held at the Casino regarding the traffic problems at this location. Several residents spoke coming up with good solutions to allow the traffic to move easier. None have been implemented by FDOT.
I-95 Interchange Improvements at 10th Avenue North Construction on this 0.579-mile project began Monday, Nov. 2, 2015, in the City of Lake Worth. Work consists of widening 10th Avenue North, from Barnett Drive to “A” Street, including roadway approaches and bridges over I-95 and the railroad tracks to provide dual eastbound turn lanes onto I-95, widening the I-95 northbound entrance ramp to receive the newly constructed dual eastbound left turn lanes, and widening the existing three-lane I-95 southbound exit ramp to four lanes to provide dual left and dual right turns. Other improvements include utility relocation, bridge construction, installation of barrier walls, curbs, sidewalks, guardrail, drainage, overhead signs, signing and pavement markings, signals, lighting, and retaining walls. This is the third of five interchange improvement projects throughout Broward and Palm Beach Counties. The combined project cost for all five projects is an estimated $32.5 million. Work is being performed by Community Asphalt Corp. and is expected to be completed fall 2018.
Restrictions: The inside lanes of I-95 northbound and southbound, between Forest Hill Boulevard and 6th Ave., will be closed, nightly, with the first lane closing at 9 p.m., the second lane closing 10 p.m. and the third lane, if needed, closing 12:30 a.m., until 5 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning, through November. 10th Avenue North, from Barnett Drive to North A Street, will have two lanes closed in each direction, nightly, as needed (eastbound and westbound will not be closed at the same time), 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning, through November. As part of the widening of 10th Avenue North, the north sidewalk is closed through November 2018. Pedestrian traffic is detoured to the south sidewalk, with crossing guards providing assistance at Barnett Drive and North A Street during school hours; signage is in place to assist.
Ramp Impacts: The I-95 southbound entrance ramp from 10th Avenue North will undergo a full closure, nightly, as needed, Sunday night through Friday morning. The I-95 southbound exit ramp to 10th Avenue North will undergo a full closure, nightly, as needed, Sunday night through Friday morning, through November. Townhall Traffic Meeting

Kudos to Commissioner Omari Hardy!
Last night, commissioner Omari Hardy had a Community Traffic Meeting at the Lake Worth Casino. It was well attended and the discussion was on the traffic conditions when attempting to get onto 10th Avenue North from North A Street as well as entering and exiting I-95 from 10th Avenue N. Other streets with traffic problems were mentioned--North D Street, Dixie Highway and 22 Avenue North.
There were many concerns regarding A Street while entering 10th Avenue North at the intersection. People enter 10th Avenue and do not stay in their lane closest to them but cross over thus tying up the flow of traffic and causing congestion and back-ups. Suggestions for a left turn arrow was mentioned.
This I-95 Interchange is a long process. Lake Worth could widen the road to 3 lanes on North A street by 10th Avenue North but designs could change in the future. County Engineers spoke as well as a rep from FDOT.

"There are currently five other housing projects underway or near completion in Lake Worth other than Lake Cove community, a 59 single-family home subdivision being built
on a 12-acre site on 19th Avenue North, just north of Vernon Heights..

Ordinance on Land Development Regulations Lake Worth

Reading Ordinances is dry and boring. That's why we pay our city attorney around $220 an hour so that he can read them. The only people who ever changed land development orders or a land use map is the City of Lake Worth and this Commission with the recommendation of our present Planning & Zoning board. Our Heights Charter Amendment had nothing whatsoever to do with that. Therefore, the commission/city's argument and excuse of applying HB 537 for not honoring the vote results are not relevant.

Interim City Attorney Torcivia read the following ordinance by title only:
ORDINANCE NO. 2013-34 OF THE CITY OF LAKE WORTH, FLORIDA, REPEALING EXISTING CHAPTER 23, “ZONING” OF THE LAKE WORTH CODE OF ORDINANCES AND REPLACING IT WITH A NEW LAND DEVELOPMENT CODE AS CHAPTER 23, “LAND DEVELOPMENT REGULATIONS”, INCLUDING GENERAL PROVISIONS WHICH ALSO INCLUDE ADOPTION OF A NEW OFFICIAL ZONING MAP FOR THE ENTIRE CITY OF LAKE WORTH, ADMINISTRATION, ZONING DISTRICTS, DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS, SUPPLEMENTAL REGULATIONS, AND ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATIONS; PROVIDING FOR CONFLICTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR CODIFICATION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
Motion made by Commissioner Szerdi and seconded by Vice Mayor Maxwell to approve Ordinance No. 2013-34. It passed on a 4/1 vote (Maxwell, Triolo, Amoroso, Szerdi) with McVoy dissenting.
Community Sustainability Director Waters explained that it would be hard to make an educated recommendation or comment on the safety impact caused by the adoption of the Land Development Regulations because structures were not yet built. Currently 65 foot height buildings and new development had to go through a traffic and infrastructure study. If there was a negative impact on infrastructure, then the developer would need to make improvements to the infrastructure. He commented that traffic safety would improve at intersections because the current code allowed structures to be built right up to the sidewalks.
Now Staff is telling us that the Gulfstream has to have a Traffic "Management" Study six months after the building is erected.
The Charter Amendment was won by Referendum on March 13, 2013, five months before the city changed the Land Development Regulations on August 6, 2013 on a vote from the dais.

I-95 Skid Hazard Overlay from north of 6th Avenue South to Lake Worth Road Work on this 0.5-mile project began Friday, March 14, 2014, in the City of Lake Worth.
Work consists of installing a high friction epoxy overlay and thermoplastic pavement markings to the bridge deck from just north of 6th Avenue South to Lake Worth Road. The project costs an estimated $1.8 million. The work is being performed by Ram Construction Services and is expected to be completed late summer 2014.
I-95 northbound will have three inside lanes closed, from 6th Avenue South to 10th Avenue North, 9 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday night through Thursday morning, through spring 2014.

FL Sen Jeff Clemens still supports Red-Light Cameras

Jeff Clemens, former mayor of Lake Worth, supported red-light cameras while he was in office and apparently nothing has changed other than it has become lucrative for him to do so, according to Media Trackers. He is now our State Senator and still champions the controversial
red light cameras and shorter yellow lights at intersections. (Let's get those suckers!) Clemens appeared on a WTSP-TV news segment reporting on the shorter
yellow lights.
Clemens, who receives campaign contributions from the company that manufactures red light cameras and receives a percentage of each motorist fine resulting from red light cameras, defended the shorter yellow lights.
Clemens claimed shorter yellow lights do not result in more red light violations. He should know. Media Trackers Florida says he is a chronic traffic offender himself racking up ticket after ticket.
