Cop stops woman for using cell phone

A traffic citation issued to a woman who said she was accused of holding a phone in a hand she does not have has now been dismissed.

Court records show the case was dropped at the request of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputy who issued the citation. A hearing had been scheduled for Tuesday, but it was canceled after prosecutors dismissed the case.

Good thing, as the deputy would have ended up as the laughing stock of Palm Beach County for trying to fulfill his ticket quota.

No one has attacked DeSantis as much as Governor Gavin Newsom.

But Newsom is now copying an educational policy DeSantis put in place last year that MSNBC called “dangerous” and “authoritarian.”

As part of his Teacher’s Bill of Rights, DeSantis said educators should have the right to require students to leave their phones in a cubby during class hours.

“Why are these students on their phones during class all the time?” DeSantis said at the time. “They should not be always on their phones, being distracted from the lessons.”

And after spending the past three years attacking DeSantis, Gavin Newsom just promised to restrict the use of smartphones during the school day.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on September 20, 2018. The WEA portion of the test commences at 2:18 p.m. EDT, and the EAS portion follows at 2:20 p.m. EDT. The test will assess the operational readiness of the infrastructure for distribution of a national message and determine whether improvements are needed

No cell phone use while driving in California

California, the kookiest state in the country just got a little less kooky. Governor Jerry Brown finally has made a sensible decision.

Starting in January, California residents can no longer drive and use their cell phones -- for anything.

Governor Jerry Brown signed legislation into law that makes it illegal to operate a smartphone with your hands for any reason.

Drivers will have a few months to mentally adjust (that will be tough for Californians) before the new law is enforced. The goal is to cut down on the number of accidents caused by distracted driving.
