FBI data shows violent crime and murder rates hit historic lows in 2025
The FBI's latest crime report shows murder fell 18.1% in a single year and the national homicide rate dropped to a level not seen since the Eisenhower era, numbers President Trump called "the best crime record in recorded history."The bureau released detailed data from its Uniform Crime Reporting Program on Friday showing every major category of violent crime declined in 2025, with murder and robbery each dropping by roughly one-fifth.
FBI Director Kash Patel, who had previewed the findings in a May announcement, called the results "the single largest decrease in violent crime and murder since 1937."
