FBI data shows violent crime and murder rates hit historic lows in 2025

The FBI's latest crime report shows murder fell 18.1% in a single year and the national homicide rate dropped to a level not seen since the Eisenhower era, numbers President Trump called "the best crime record in recorded history."

The bureau released detailed data from its Uniform Crime Reporting Program on Friday showing every major category of violent crime declined in 2025, with murder and robbery each dropping by roughly one-fifth.

FBI Director Kash Patel, who had previewed the findings in a May announcement, called the results "the single largest decrease in violent crime and murder since 1937."

After 14 months in charge, Patel says the changes are aimed at restoring public trust in an agency he believes had become overly bureaucratic and politically weaponized.

Everybody thinks the FBI is running around like ‘CSI,’ and we just weren’t,” he said.

The bureau also rebuilt its operational command center with real-time situational awareness and improved communications. The FBI is also integrating artificial intelligence into both classified and unclassified operations. Patel said some executive-level work that previously took hours can now be completed in about 20 minutes with AI added to Investigations.

Patel said roughly one-third of FBI employees had been located within 50 miles of Washington. He called that concentration “illogical.” The director moved approximately 1,500 employees out of Washington offices and into field operations across the country.

His wife, Najmo Ahmed, already pleaded guilty to money laundering last year. She's scheduled for sentencing this month. Najmo Ahmed, operated the grocer and laundered over $1.3 million of the illicit funds through personal bank accounts. She pleaded guilty to money laundering charges and was scheduled to face sentencing.

The FBI has arrested hundreds of suspects and seized more than $8 billion in cryptocurrency, the largest forfeiture in U.S. government history, in a sweeping intercontinental operation targeting organized crime networks that ran fortified scam compounds across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

The crackdown, led by FBI Director Kash Patel, dismantled a web of fraud factories that lured victims through romance schemes, fake cryptocurrency investments, and extortion, all while trafficking migrant workers and forcing them to run the scams under threat of beatings and torture.

At the center of the operation sits 39 year old Chen Zhi, CEO of Cambodia's Prince Holding Group, who now faces federal charges of wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy.

Agents confiscated more than 127,000 bitcoin from Chen, a haul Fox News reported could be worth more than $15 billion at the time of seizure, depending on market valuations.

FBI Director Kash Patel told the bureau's workforce that the agency has completed a sweeping restructuring over the past 14 months, reassigning more than 1,000 agents and staff from Washington, D.C., to field offices, slashing over $300 million in spending, and expanding the use of artificial intelligence to track threats.

Patel called the shakeup "generational" in a draft letter to FBI employees obtained by Fox News. The letter amounts to a progress report from a director who took the helm of an agency widely distrusted by the American right, and, Patel argues, by many of its own rank-and-file agents.

His claim: the FBI has shed layers of headquarters bloat, pushed personnel closer to actual casework, and refocused its mission on protecting Americans from domestic threats, including terrorism.

Whether the numbers hold up to outside scrutiny remains to be seen. But the scope of the claimed overhaul, more than a thousand personnel shifted, hundreds of intelligence analysts repositioned.

A new domestic terrorism mission center stood up, and billions in projected savings from a planned headquarters relocation, represents the most concrete accounting Patel has offered of changes inside the bureau since he took charge.

FBI Director Kash Patel has reportedly ordered agents to prepare decade old investigative files about Rep. Eric Swalwell and a suspected Chinese intelligence operative known as Fang Fang for public release. The files come from an inquiry that did not produce criminal charges.

Still, Patel is pushing fast redactions and a near immediate disclosure of those records to the public. That kind of move is unusual from the FBI but tells you how serious the director is about transparency in this matter.

What the Files Allegedly Contain

Reports say the intelligence community compiled a classified dossier describing how Fang Fang operated as a donor and bundler for Democrats and how she allegedly had an intimate relationship with Swalwell. Some media outlets have claimed the files include explicit details about the relationship.

Officials who have seen portions of the material have described it as politically explosive, even if it did not lead to charges at the time.

Why Release Matters Now

Releasing the files would let the public see what the FBI and intelligence community knew and when they knew it. Conservatives argue this is about accountability and about ensuring lawmakers with possible foreign entanglements did not retain access to sensitive national security information.

Critics worry releasing raw investigative material could unfairly smear people before full vetting. Both points deserve attention, but transparency tends to build trust while secrecy breeds suspicion.

Iran-linked hackers breach FBI Director Kash Patel's old personal emails, publish private photos online

A pro-Iranian hacking group calling itself Handala claimed responsibility for breaching FBI Director Kash Patel's personal email account and dumping years-old photos, a resume, and personal documents online, a brazen cyberattack against the nation's top law enforcement official that the Bureau says exposed no government information.

The Daily Mail reported that the hackers published Patel's private emails and photographs online, with material appearing to span personal and work correspondence from 2010 to 2019.

Kash Patel has been working in Washington D.C. since roughly late 2013 or early 2014, when he joined the Justice Department's National Security Division. He transitioned from a Florida public defender to a federal prosecutor, later serving in key roles on the National Security Council and at the Pentagon before becoming FBI Director in 2025.

The uploaded images reportedly showed Patel on vacation in Cuba, at a bar in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and in an office space in what appears to be Washington, D.C. and appear to be about ten years old.

A Justice Department official confirmed the breach but declined to elaborate. The FBI moved quickly to frame the damage as limited and historical.

The group behind the hack, the Handala Hack Team, is believed by experts to be a front for the Iranian government. The group issued a taunting statement after the breach. Newsmax reported the hackers' message:

"Kash Patel, the current head of the FBI, who once saw his name displayed with pride on the agency's headquarters, will now find his name among the list of successfully hacked victims."

Since then, investigative reporter John Solomon has elaborated on this in an interview with Glenn Beck.

It was partly as a result of a congressional investigation into Benghazi that it was revealed that Clinton had violated a long list of protocols and precedents by installing a private email server in her home, and was using it for classified government secrets.

A federal grand jury indicted two alleged Antifa members with terrorism-related charges for a July 4 attack on an ICE facility in Texas.

The indictment, issued Wednesday and unsealed Thursday, charges Cameron Arnold and Zachary Evetts with providing material support for terrorism, attempting to murder federal and assisting officers and discharging firearms during attempted murders.

"For the first time ever, the FBI has arrested anarchist violent extremists and charged these Antifa-aligned individuals with material support to terrorism," FBI Director Kash Patel said in a statement.

"This was a planned and coordinated terrorist attack on the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, where armed extremists tried to murder U.S. officers on July 4th," he continued.

"We are executing under President Trump's new authorities at record speed. To date, the FBI has made over 20 arrests tied to this case and related Antifa networks. No one gets to harm law enforcement. Not on our watch," Patel added.
