Over at the Department of Housing and Urban Development, visitors get hit with this message: "The Radical Left in Congress shut down the government. HUD will use available resources to help Americans in need."

At last night's Lake Worth city commission meeting, Scott Maxwell was, once again, in an authoritative mood. When talking about the Siemens LED lights, he asked a question and Commissioner McVoy answered it by saying one word, "nope." Maxwell then said, "Excuse me," and ignored McVoy who actually knew the answer. The mayor said that Maxwell was talking but it was okay when she interrupted him.

He asked the city manager if we were going to have any budget meetings during the month of July because "historically" [an accurate picture of time] we don't have them in July. The city manager answered his question by stating that he believed there was a meeting scheduled for July.

So, after researching back five years, the following dates reflect budget meeting workshops held in the month of July. If you note, no budget meeting was held in July 2015 as the Audit was incomplete.  The Audit of the year ending on September 30 or the preceding year is taking longer and longer to produce.

According to our finance Director, Marie Elianor, our 2015 audit is expected on or before June 30, 2016.  Once received, the commissioners need to study it and compare it to the new proposed budget figures. You can't make decisions on where you're going without knowing where you've been.

The Sad, Despicable Truth -Scott Maxwell doesn't care about the people

Scott Maxwell clearly peeved.

In his mind, its people playing politics rather than finding the truth 

calling them "despicable."
In his "mind," he's right and everyone else is wrong,
 or a racist or a liar, or...

What IS despicable, is the letter sent out to the owner of this Mobile Home park that garbage would no longer be picked up at the curb. What IS despicable is the city manager continuing to say that the ZONING was changed in 2009 and they found through a recent audit that the park residents were not paying their fair share. What was despicable is Maxwell not knowing the facts and taking advantage of these Seniors at the demonstration and telling us last night that they had some fear of being kicked out of their homes--this never was said. And what was despicable was the mayor writing a letter to every resident there playing politics telling them that "one side has resorted to spreading lies and half-truths, telling you whatever it takes to make you afraid.  This is just plain wrong."

What was despicable, mayor, was the simple fact that you never once called anyone to get the facts or call any of the mobile home park owners.  You didn't call the HO president; you didn't call me; you didn't call anyone that you condemn. If you are focused on protecting everyone as you say, then you should have listened to both sides of the story. You only got one side which, as it turns out, is despicable in itself and as you would say, "just plain wrong."

The president of their Homeowner's Association, Jerri Greene wrote the city saying,

I do not know why your office leaked false information with regards to how much we pay for waste removal. But I would like to set the record straight and hope that you will also with the press.

 1.  There are only 333 lots in Palm Beach Mobile Home Park 2. We pay more than $4300 a month ...and definitely more than $12.88 per lot. There are 2 sides to the park. The South Side pays $4300.80 per month and there are 221 lots there of which only 213 are occupied = $19.46 per lot or $20.81 per occupied lot. The North side pays $2252.80 per month and there are 112 lots occupied = $20.11 per lot. Total is $6553.60 per month.

This is in line with what everyone else is paying. Why should be pay $8.00 more which puts us above what others are paying.

I don't suppose we could expect an apology but we would like for you all to provide accurate information to the public.

We have been given 3 different reasons for why you will no longer be providing curbside service but this, by far, is the worst reason we have been given.

Now we found out yesterday that the city couldn't find one account and was basing its "you don't pay enough" analogy on one Park (there are two parks and two accounts) when it released its figures to the Press.

This is an example of what I have been saying for the past four years--this dais does NOT listen to the people.  They do not explore the truth and they rely on staff for every answer. They complain about "us versus them" syndrome when in fact, it is their fault.  They hold the power. It should be all about the people.

It's all politics but the suggestion made by Mr. Ellis is ridiculous as politics often is.

All in the same breath he takes a swipe at the Lake Worth Tribune that does honest reporting and all of those running against the Trio that (real estate license or not), are involved in something nefarious. Heck, the Trio even had a secret meeting to give away our casino complex (a possible 99 year lease with renewals) to a developer involved big time in....you guessed it-- real estate.

Ben Ellis If the Lake Worth Tribune really wanted to write a relevant article, maybe they could spend some time investigating why three licensed real estate agents are suddenly running for office, out of the blue, with no prior public engagement, and in some cases very short time as residents.

So, one incumbent has a real estate license and two out of the four candidate opposition have current licenses.  Neither one of the two opponents use their license to buy or sell real estate or work in real estate sales.  Gary Antieau might dabble in it but that's rare. So, three people running have licenses and four do not.

Of course, the implication is real estate salesmen have something to gain by running for office in Lake Worth against these incumbents and therefore we all need to be leery of these unscrupulous people.  Perhaps, they too, work for Hudson Holdings?

Received another propaganda piece in the mail yesterday along with Scott Maxwell's robo call. There were several bits of "educational" material that were inaccurate but this blog is only touching on one--the Senior Exemption. The city made a mistake. They really should have asked a Senior about this exemption.

The city said in order to get the Senior exemption, income can not exceed $20,000 a year..

To be precise, you can get a Senior exemption if your income does not exceed $27,000 a year, NOT including social security or tax exempt bond interest. Big difference in what the city told you and the facts.

And that's the problem.

No trust; NO bond.

Just like the glass being half full, making your numbers more impressive is done all of the time. But what is fact vs. embellishment or twisting the reality? What is just a marketing ploy to cement your narrative? We know and we were told that 30% of the roads would be resurfaced.  That is a fact. Then after the finance director left in the middle of the night, the facts changed.  Now we are being told that 73% of the roads will be rebuilt or repaved and in another report it is 70%.

Let's get some definitions from the city of

repaved

Basically the city says it's all the same.  Now The Lake Worth 2020 presentation states that 71.5 miles of roadway will be repaved.  This is 70% of the City-owned roads.  It includes both reconstruction and roads where needed and resurfacing of other roads.  Reconstruction includes improvements to either the road base and/or asphalt.  Resurfacing includes improvements to the asphalt.  The online map allows people to identify a road segment and receive information concerning the type of project related to that road.  Either type road improvement will result in the road being improved to a newly paved condition.

And after we let all of that sink in, let's get the specifics on exactly what will be done to each road on the very red map and the cost for that work.  City Manager Michael Bornstein says “There’s only so much you can fit on a postcard.”  Well, you've been "educating" the people for two years, why isn't the estimated cost all broken down precisely on the web page?

And that's wild since it's coming from the Press! 

Actually what a reporter should be doing is Striving for accuracy and neutrality in any story he reports. He should be covering both sides of any contentious issue.

We don't have that with the press in Lake Worth.

In fact, what we have, are insults, obstruction and mean spirited comments from the press trying to deter the free flow of ideas which is the cornerstone of a strong and vibrant Lake Worth.
