Colombia's conservative president takes office in Cali, citing Jefferson and vowing to restore order

Abelardo de la Espriella, a 48-year-old conservative lawyer who ran as a pro-Trump ally, was inaugurated as Colombia's president Friday in a historic ceremony held outside Bogotá for the first time in over 200 years, and his predecessor refused to show up.

De la Espriella took the oath of office at approximately 4:30 p.m. local time at the Arena USC amphitheater on the campus of the University of Cali, breaking with more than two centuries of tradition that placed every Colombian inauguration in the capital.

Senate leader Honorio Miguel Henríquez Pineda administered the oath, presented the presidential sash, and delivered a speech outlining the challenges the new administration inherits. De la Espriella then swore in José Manuel Restrepo as vice president.

The choice of Cali, the capital of the southwestern state of Valle del Cauca and one of the regions hardest hit by armed groups, was deliberate. De la Espriella told Colombian magazine Semana he picked the city as a "symbolic" gesture of his administration's promise to fight criminal and terrorist organizations.

The symbolism carried weight: earlier in the week, police intercepted a bus loaded with 420 kilograms of explosives near Cali, a plot allegedly led by a FARC commander.

Italian prime minister meets with Trump at Mar-a-Lago

US President-elect Donald Trump had some strong words for Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni as she became the latest world leader to drop in and visit him at Mar-a-Lago.

The discussion must have gone well because Trump hailed her as a "fantastic woman" after it was over.

We all know how quickly Trump can turn on people who don't give him what he wants (just ask Mike Pence), so it says a lot that the president-elect is praising Meloni, giving Americans hope that Italy and the USA will be working well together during Trump's second term in office.

Meloni, who became prime minister in 2022, helped found the country's Brothers of Italy party, which is now the most conservative government to take control there since the days of World War II.

Conservative Hispanic Publication Calls for Mayorkas' Immediate Impeachment

In an editorial Monday, the conservative Hispanic news outlet "El American" called for the immediate impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his failure to handle the situation at the southern border.

"It is therefore with no pleasure that this outlet should call for the impeachment of one of the most powerful Hispanic leaders in the country, albeit in a Democratic administration," the editorial Monday said. "Yet the failings of the incumbent Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, are so immense that they must no longer be ignored."

The conservative digital publication said while it supports promoting Hispanics to positions of power, Mayorkas has shown "gross incompetence and disdain for protecting America's southern border" since his 2021 appointment to the post.

The deal received sparse local media coverage but earned national attention when lawmakers in Washington D.C. asked a federal agency to reject the sale for what appears to be political reasons.

I have seen the tears and pain in their eyes as they showed me pictures of their sons and daughters who have been senselessly killed because of "tolerant" democrat policies.

The democrat I'm running against, Lois Frankel, is a three-term incumbent of Florida's 21st Congressional District.

Rather than supporting President Trump's policies – or even working to compromise – she would rather focus on "aggressive investigations" of our President.

So far in her current term representing Florida 21, Lois Frankel has voted to support President Trump's position only 5.6% of the time!

Being a Conservative

When I was younger, I was a Democrat or at least registered as one. I believed in what other people told me--younger people do that. The main thing that stands out in my mind is that I was told over and over again (and not by my family as they were Republicans) but by my peers--Republicans didn't care about the little guy...they only cared about the wealthy. I believed this lie.

Democrats have hung on to this deceit all these many decades in order to divide this nation and the lie certainly has worked. Liberals believe in turning over traditions and doctrine, being PC correct. And that's what even happened on a small, but extremely important scale, right here in Lake Worth when the name of our city after 106 years was voted out and changed. Liberals only care about their feelings in a particular moment, not thinking about the consequences or the insensibility of their actions.
