Trump optimistic about Trade deal with Canada
Trump Says US-Canada Trade Deal Likely 'Fairly Soon'
President Donald Trump said on Saturday that Canada was keen to reach a trade deal with the United States and that an agreement could come "fairly soon," while repeating complaints that Canada had treated U.S. farmers unfairly and should remove tariffs."Canada wants to make a deal very badly," Trump said while answering questions from media after a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin in Dublin.
"Canada has to treat our farmers better. They can't charge our farmers tariffs," Trump said, adding, "You'll probably see a deal with Canada fairly soon."

Bill Maher jokes about Liberal Outrage
Bill Maher Mocks Liberal Outrage Over Trump’s Lake Ontario Name Change
Bill Maher took aim at liberal outrage during Friday’s episode of his HBO program Real Time. But this time, the punchline was not aimed at President Donald Trump.Maher focused on the reaction to Trump changing the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America. The segment gave conservatives something they do not often see from Maher: a direct jab at the left’s political inconsistency.
The criticism from liberals has centered on the idea that a president should not rename a major geographic feature for political reasons. Yet, as the segment pointed out, many on the left have supported tearing down historic statues and changing names tied to America’s past. The source also noted the left’s enthusiasm for renaming things for George Floyd.
That contrast was the heart of Maher’s joke. He argued that the outrage over Lake Ontario was selective, especially when compared with earlier fights over statues, public symbols, and politically motivated name changes.
“Trump is so mad at Canada, he renamed Lake Ontario ‘Lake America,’” Maher said. “Now I have to buy a new globe again!” he joked. He then went after the argument that political leaders should not rename things to fit an agenda. “Liberals are very pissed at this. They say you can’t just go around renaming to suit your political agenda. Just ask any Latinx birthing person.”
Bill Maher
The audience reportedly loved the line. The joke landed because it turned a familiar liberal talking point back on its supporters. Instead of accepting the outrage at face value, Maher highlighted what conservatives see as a glaring double standard.
The segment also came as tensions between Trump and Canada remained part of the broader political debate.

Trade Deficit hit $64 billion a year with Canada -- that just ended
What Canada Has Been Doing to American Farmers for Fifty Years
The numbers got so bad that by 2023, the goods deficit hit $64 billion – the worst it had been since the George W. Bush years. And Canada's weapon of choice has been the tariff. Trump called out the dairy tariff specifically, and here's what that actually looks like in practice.Canada built a wall around its dairy market in the 1970s to protect Canadian producers, then designed a quota system so restrictive that American farmers can't get anywhere near the cap that would let them compete.
American auto workers in Michigan and Ohio built their careers on an industry Canada has been quietly undercutting for twenty years – protecting its own market with tariffs while demanding open access to ours. "Canada declined to finalize the trade deal under the terms agreed earlier this week." Fifty percent tariffs hit at midnight.
Carney's response was to call it a "miscalculation" – then announce dollar-for-dollar retaliation starting September 8.
He also told reporters Canada was "at war" with the United States. A country that has extracted sixty billion dollars a year from American workers just declared itself a victim.
That ends now.

Canada gets new tariff on their Autos
Trump Announces New 50 Percent Tariffs on Canadian Autos
Canada says its counter-tariffs will come into effect on Sept. 8.
His announcement comes after trade talks between Washington and Ottawa collapsed on Aug. 21, with new 50 percent U.S. tariffs on about US$20 billion (CA$28 billion) of Canadian products taking effect on Aug. 22, and Canada vowing to retaliate with its own tariffs.“Canada has been ripping off the United States of America for years. Their ridiculously high tariffs on our Farmers and farm products has made life impossible for these great American Patriots,” Trump said in a social media post on Aug. 24.
“Build in the U.S. and there are ZERO TARIFFS. Canada will be treated like a State no longer! On Trade, and in other ways, also, they are among the worst Nations in the World to deal with. They feel entitled, and yet, WE DON’T NEED CANADA, THEY NEED US!”
Trump said that starting in the new year, all Canadian cars, trucks, and auto parts will be subject to a 50 percent tariff. Current tariffs on Canadian autos are 25 percent.
The U.S. president also included steel in the new announcement. Canadian steel, along with aluminum and copper, is already tariffed at 50 percent.

Three Summers Of Canadian Smoke
Trump Confronted Carney at the World Cup and Demanded Canada Pay For Poisoning American Air
Canadian wildfire smoke shut down Detroit's car plants for the third summer in a row.Trump sat beside Carney at Sunday's World Cup final and brought the crisis up in person.
Nearly 850 wildfires were burning across Canada last week, with more than 180 raging in Ontario alone. The smoke drifted south and swallowed American cities whole. For a stretch last week, Detroit's air ranked dirtiest of any major city on the planet, with Chicago and the nation's capital not far behind.
Washington's own air quality index hit 212 – a level the government classifies as very unhealthy – while New York posted a reading of 134 the same morning. Air quality alerts hit more than 20 states, from the Upper Midwest to the Northeast.
New York City's skyline vanished behind an orange haze that turned Manhattan orange in broad daylight. Canada let its forests burn out of control again, and Washington was done pretending this was new.
Trump posted on Truth Social accusing Canada's government of refusing basic forest management, warning "this is Willful Negligence, and becoming a yearly occurrence." He said the pollution has cost America billions of dollars – and that bill belongs on Canada's tariffs, not on American taxpayers.

It's always the other guy's fault
Carney points finger at Washington as Canadian wildfires choke American cities
With 136 active wildfires burning across Ontario and toxic smoke blanketing cities from Detroit to New York, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stood before reporters Thursday and offered Americans a familiar answer: blame climate change, and blame yourselves.Carney, speaking at a press conference in Ontario, dismissed suggestions that his government could do more to contain the fires. Instead, he pivoted to U.S. energy policy, telling reporters in French that Canada is "maintaining our efforts on the world's scale" while "the U.S. is reducing their efforts globally" on climate change.
President Trump, for his part, has been characteristically direct. The Washington Times reported that Trump threatened to raise tariff levels on Canadian goods, framing the smoke as an "invasion" and accusing Canada of ignoring "basic Forest Management and Debris Removal."
Trump announced plans to call Carney directly, posting that "the cost is incalculable." The administration's posture fits a broader pattern of holding foreign actors accountable for consequences that reach American soil, a philosophy visible in recent joint operations against transnational criminal organizations as well.

Democrats to hold meeting to defeat Republicans
Sen. Elissa Slotkin heads to Canada for center-left summit with Mark Carney on fighting the right
Sen. Elissa Slotkin, the Michigan Democrat and possible 2028 presidential contender, is set to travel to Canada on Saturday for a summit with Prime Minister Mark Carney and other center-left politicians. The gathering, organized by the Center for American Progress, is designed to map out what organizers describe as a strategy for battling right-wing politicians on affordability, a framing that tells you everything about who they think the enemy is.
The trip comes as Carney's government deepens its economic ties with Beijing, having struck what Ottawa calls a "new strategic partnership" with China that opens the door for tens of thousands of Chinese-made electric vehicles to enter the Canadian market.
For a senator from Michigan, the historic heart of American automaking, the optics are difficult to explain away.
Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, another possible Democratic White House hopeful for 2028, will also attend, Breitbart News reported, citing Semafor.
The event follows former President Barack Obama's visit to Toronto on Friday for a keynote speech hosted by Canada 2020, a think tank that says it promotes a "more just, inclusive and forward-thinking Canada."

European Leaders Join Canada's Panic Over Trump's Arctic Strategy
Canadian Officials Made One Desperate Trip After Trump Said He’s Taking Greenland
Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Governor General Mary Simon scrambled to announce an emergency trip to Greenland this week. The timing tells you everything.
Trump declared on Truth Social that "the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity" for American national security, and suddenly Canada's racing to Nuuk with promises of partnership and friendship.
Prime Minister Mark Carney met with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Paris on Tuesday where both were attending a Ukraine meeting. Carney declared Canada's support for Denmark's "sole authority" over Greenland's fate.
That's diplomatic speak for "please don't let Trump buy this island."
The White House clarified there are no plans to use military force, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Trump wants to purchase Greenland from Denmark through normal diplomatic channels.
Greenland's strategic location makes it perfect for early warning systems, military bases, and monitoring every Russian submarine and Chinese vessel operating in northern waters.

August 1 New Tariffs may be implemented
North American Trade Faces New Threats
Trump’s hardball tactics and looming tariff threats could significantly shift the landscape of the U.S.-Canada trade. At a Glance
Trump threatens a 35% tariff on Canadian goods by August 1.
Canada maintains a 25% counter-tariff amid tense negotiations.
U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum have doubled to 50%.
Trade talks are active but face potential escalation.
Trump’s Tariff Strategy and Its Implications:
The Trump administration has once again taken a firm stance on trade, with President Trump announcing a potential 35% tariff on Canadian goods if an agreement isn’t reached by August 1.
This aggressive move follows a series of tariffs targeting not only Canada but also Mexico, the EU, and others, with the intention of securing better trade terms for the U.S. The administration has already doubled tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to 50%.
With the U.S. market being a crucial destination for over three-quarters of Canadian exports, the stakes are high. The U.S. administration is leveraging its market size to extract concessions, aiming to protect domestic industries and reduce trade deficits. As of 2024, the U.S. had a trade deficit of approximately $63.3 billion with Canada, indicating that imports from Canada exceeded exports.

President Trump ends trade discussions with Canada
Trump Ends Trade Talks with Canada
President Donald Trump said Friday he is “terminating” all trade discussions with Canada, effective immediately, because of its Digital Services Tax, and that he would announce new tariffs on the country within the next seven days.“We have just been informed that Canada, a very difficult Country to TRADE with … has just announced that they are putting a Digital Services Tax on our American Technology Companies, which is a direct and blatant attack on our Country,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.
The decision came after Canada refused to delay the implementation of the tax for 30 days while the two countries negotiate a trade deal, White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett said Friday afternoon on Fox Business Network. “They’re taxing American companies who don’t necessarily even have a presence in Canada,” Hassett said, calling the tax “almost criminal.”
A White House official said the president was “rightfully” angry. “We had been negotiating with Canada for them to lower their trade barriers, and then they go and erect a brand new one,” said the official, who was granted anonymity to discuss a sensitive issue. “So it’s obviously not helping their case.”
First payments are due Monday, but because the bill applies retroactively, U.S. companies such as Amazon, Google and Meta could be faced with a bill up to $3 billion, according to the Computer & Communications Industry Association.

Beginning of the new Golden Age
Donald Trump stunned border crossers with these jaw-dropping achievements in just 100 days
Donald Trump promised to secure the southern border and deport criminal illegal aliens during his campaign. Border crossings have collapsed under Trump’s leadershipHe’s making good on that promise in record time.
And Donald Trump stunned border crossers with these jaw-dropping achievements in just 100 days. When Donald Trump took office in January, America was suffering through the worst border crisis in history.
Under Joe Biden’s failed leadership, nearly 10 million illegal aliens poured across our southern border while dangerous cartels trafficked deadly fentanyl into our communities.
But that all changed the moment Trump was sworn in.
- Trump is finally finishing the wall
- Mass deportations target criminal aliens first
- Justice for victims and innovative approaches
- Cartels designated as terrorist organizations
- Tariffs force Mexico and Canada to help
- Eliminating waste to focus on security
- A dramatic shift in policy and priorities

Canadian Tariffs
President Trump Responds to 'Very Dumb' Rebuke of Hard-Hitting Tariffs
President Trump isn’t backing down. He blasted Trudeau’s tariffs as "very dumb" and vowed immediate retaliation."When he puts a Retaliatory Tariff on the U.S., our Reciprocal Tariff will immediately increase by a like amount!" Trump posted on Truth Social.
Trudeau fired back. He slammed Trump’s 25% tariffs, calling it a "trade war" against America’s "closest partner and ally." He accused Trump of appeasing "a lying, murderous dictator" in Russia while punishing Canada.
"Canadians are reasonable and polite," Trudeau said. "But we will not back down from a fight."
Trudeau addressed Trump directly. "Donald, in the over eight years you and I have worked together, we've done big things," he said. "Two friends fighting is exactly what our opponents around the world want to see."

Agreements reached on the border with Mexico and Canada
Trump Pauses Tariffs on Mexico and Canada After Border Agreements Reached
Both nations will each send 10,000 personnel to secure their shared borders with the United States in response to President Trump’s 25 percent tariff orders.Leaders of Mexico and Canada agreed on Feb. 3 to strengthen border security in exchange for a pause on the trade policies after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose 25 percent tariffs on products coming from the two countries.
“Tariffs are very powerful, both economically and in getting everything else you want,” Trump said on Feb. 3 while signing executive orders in the Oval Office.
Trump issued executive orders on Feb. 1, set to take effect Feb. 4, levying tariffs on goods from the two U.S. border nations due to illegal immigration and fentanyl trafficking flowing into the United States.
With hours to spare before the tariffs were imposed, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on the social media platform X that he had agreed to a deal during a “good call with President Trump” to pause the fees for 30 days.
In exchange, Canada has agreed to assign approximately 10,000 personnel to the border in an operation to maintain eyes on the border at all times.

Tariffs as a weapon to fulfill America First Policy
Trump Vows 25 Percent Tariff for Canada, Mexico, Ramps Up Promised Levies on China
President-elect Trump has vowed to impose steep tariffs on China, Canada, and Mexico to combat illegal immigration and fentanyl trafficking.President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to impose an additional 10 percent tariff on any goods coming into the United States from China—over and above any tariffs he has already pledged to impose on Chinese products—as well as a 25 percent tariff on all incoming goods from Canada and Mexico.
He cited Beijing’s broken promises to stem the flow of fentanyl, while saying that Canada and Mexico have failed to address the problem of illegal immigration through their borders into the United States.
Trump said in a series of social media posts on Nov. 25 that one of his first actions after being sworn into office on Jan. 20, 2025, would be to sign executive orders imposing the tariffs on Canada and Mexico, as well as China. In the missives, Trump cited the harmful impact of illegal immigration and drugs on U.S. communities.
