Parking Garage in Downtown Lake Worth Beach

Palm Beach County’s last city with a traditional downtown that lacks a fully public parking garage is a step closer to building one. The plan’s opponents and even one key supporter say they expect it to bring an end to free street parking.

The Lake Worth Beach City Commission on June 8 gave initial approval to the construction of a long-discussed parking garage south of Lake Avenue, on the northwest corner of South K Street and First Avenue South. Commissioner Chris McVoy cast the lone dissenting vote.

The final public hearing and commission vote on the zoning changes needed to pave the way for construction is scheduled for June 30.

The planned 95,000-square-foot, four-story garage will have 260 spaces but after used for the museum and the apartments, it is wittled down to around 47 spaces. The K street garage will be part of the Wiener Museum of Decorative Arts and arts campus, which will include an art museum and 110 apartments two blocks east of the garage. The developer, Anthony Wiener, is contributing $1 million to the $8.5 million garage, with the city contributing the rest.

Lake Worth For All sued the city on Feb. 3 to stop construction of WMODA, claiming it illegally spent Palm Beach County sales tax money to get the project built.

The lawsuit argues the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency, in charge of improving blighted areas, broke state law by buying land downtown with more than $1.6 million in sales-tax revenue meant for public parking, then selling the site to Wiener for $10 to build WMODA. The case is before Circuit Judge Scott Kerner.

And all commissioners other than McVoy, have no problem screwing the residents by eventually charging for downtown parking that has always been free.

Back in August 2010 we were going through this. Suzanne Mulvehill was the only commissioner who stated, "It is our job to support business." She also wanted to check with the downtown businesses before anything.

To bring it up again in 2026--does our present commission not believe that it might hurt our downtown businesses? Perhaps people will go dine and shop somewhere else? Perhaps shoppers don't like meters or pay-stations or the hassle of it all? Perhaps the amount of revenue derived is just not worth the risk?

Lake Worth has always been a draw because of free parking. But it was the same old philosophy of charging more to the people here because of a revenue need. Charge the shoppers and let those who don't want to pay, walk from 3 blocks away...not consumer friendly.

The downtown is hurting. We should be doing all that we can do build up our downtown, not put obstacles in its pathway to success. We should stop screwing the residents and shop owners of this city.

Lake Worth Beach businesses dealing with tough code officers

Code Enforcement coming down hard on local businesses

Local businesses say code enforcement is coming down hard on them, and they're trying to understand why.

Over the last few months, business owners in the city of Lake Worth Beach say they're noticing more and more code citations for things that were never an issue in the past.

Thomas Conboy, with South Florida Engineering and Consulting, said that for him, it started with someone reporting him for not renewing his business license. "When the code enforcement officer showed up, he wrote me several additional violations. One of them was that the grass was too long," Conboy said. He maintains that it wasn't the case.

Conboy isn't alone.

Missy Vitone with Trashe Vintage said they were recently issued roughly 12 citations.

"The 12-foot skeleton had been up for over three years with no issues, then suddenly, after an unrelated situation, we were hit with multiple violations, including being told we needed a sculpture permit," she said.

The Mayor and Commissioner Christopher McVoy are looking into the various complaints as they do not want to drive businesses away.

President Donald Trump said Friday he is “terminating” all trade discussions with Canada, effective immediately, because of its Digital Services Tax, and that he would announce new tariffs on the country within the next seven days.

“We have just been informed that Canada, a very difficult Country to TRADE with … has just announced that they are putting a Digital Services Tax on our American Technology Companies, which is a direct and blatant attack on our Country,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.

The decision came after Canada refused to delay the implementation of the tax for 30 days while the two countries negotiate a trade deal, White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett said Friday afternoon on Fox Business Network. “They’re taxing American companies who don’t necessarily even have a presence in Canada,” Hassett said, calling the tax “almost criminal.”

A White House official said the president was “rightfully” angry. “We had been negotiating with Canada for them to lower their trade barriers, and then they go and erect a brand new one,” said the official, who was granted anonymity to discuss a sensitive issue. “So it’s obviously not helping their case.”

First payments are due Monday, but because the bill applies retroactively, U.S. companies such as Amazon, Google and Meta could be faced with a bill up to $3 billion, according to the Computer & Communications Industry Association.

Li Yuanhua, former associate professor at Beijing’s Capital Normal University, told The Epoch Times that the Harvard–China relationship is packaged as academic cooperation and international exchange but serves the political and technological aims of communist China.

“The CCP is not just infiltrating one university, but the entire [U.S. academic] system,” Li said.

Palm Beachers don’t want the hassle, so LWB’s public beach will accept trucks for town sand project

THE SOUTH END of Lake Worth Beach’s popular public beach is about to be invaded by a fleet of dump trucks for a Palm Beach town renourishment project.

Starting Jan. 1, the sand-hauling trucks will access a 25-foot section in the busy city beach’s southern boundary for up to 45 days from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The town requested the new access spot on their neighboring municipality’s turf because Palm Beach condo owners don’t want to deal with the truck noise, congestion and vibrations.

In return, the town will donate $80,000 to Lake Worth Beach, money the city plans to spend on beach improvements, including repairs to wooden stairs to the beach north and south of the Lake Worth pier.

The project starts in the heart of tourist season, when the beaches are busiest, a necessary time-frame, officials said, because work is prohibited during sea turtle nesting season, which usually starts in March and lasts through October. Most of the beach south of the pier, closest to the access site, will remain open to the public.

It passed on a 4/1 vote with Christopher McVoy voting "no." “There’s a fleeting feeling like, geez, if your own community doesn't want to deal with it, why on earth should we get bought off for $80,000?’’

City of Lake Worth comes up with another outrageous idea

FREE PARKING IN DOWNTOWN Lake Worth Beach, a transportation perk enjoyed by residents and visitors for decades, may soon come to a screeching halt.

City commissioners have directed staff to draft a plan to replace free parking with a paid program that would improve the availability of street parking in and around downtown and add millions to the city’s coffers.

“We know this is going to be sort of a jarring piece of news for our residents because they’re not used to having to pay,’’ Mayor Betty Resch said Dec. 3, when the commission discussed recommendations by consultant WGI.

The report suggests hourly rates of $3 on Lake and Lucerne avenues with a limit of two or three hours, and $2.50 on side streets with longer time limits.

“The city currently is generating nothing (for downtown parking), so it’s hard to increase all the levels of service if you don't have additional revenue,’’ said Interim City Manager Jamie Brown. “If we want to be able to do more things downtown to increase our levels of service, there has to be generation of revenue.’’

First of all, I want to know how we go to lunch or dinner downtown and then go to the Lake Worth Playhouse on the time frame they are suggesting. Do we have to leave in the middle of a play a couple of times to put more money in the meter?

If this is implemented, there goes all the businesses in our downtown. Charging people for a permit to park in front of their homes is outrageous.

Police and FBI Visit Home of Woman After She Posts Paragraph from Declaration of Independence on Social Media

In North Dakota, a Chinese firm known as Fufeng Group purchased 200 acres of farmland. They also purchased a corn mill. Citizens in the area were very concerned about these purchases and what they would do with them since there were just 20 minutes from an Air Force base.

I’ll admit that this is highly suspect and personally, I don’t know that I would have sold the properties to them. If we’re ever to be infiltrated by China, it would be something like this that would start the whole thing.

But what’s really even more troubling about this whole situation is that a woman posted about it on social media and in that post she included a paragraph from the Declaration of Independence. Apparently, this was enough to catch the interest of the local police as well as the FBI and they decided to pay this woman a visit.

(AMZN.O) engaged in a range of unlawful tactics to increase its online retail profits, as revealed by a U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) court document on Thursday, which included the implementation of an algorithm that inflated U.S. consumers' prices, resulting in over $1 billion in extra charges.

Previously filed in September, the FTC's lawsuit had numerous details concealed until this Thursday, when a less redacted version was disclosed in the U.S. District Court in Seattle.

Amazon, boasting a colossal selection of 1 billion products in its digital marketplace, developed a "secret algorithm internally code named 'Project Nessie' to identify specific products for which it predicts other online stores will follow Amazon's price increases. ... The vaccine was supposed to save people, not risk their lives.

A new report, however, is claiming that Pfizer and Moderna did exactly that. If the report is accurate, bad batches of the vaccine were being knowingly distributed.

The Leading Report stated, “According to an examination of official U.S. Government statistics provided by the Centers for Disease Control, very high rates of adverse reactions and fatalities have frequently been reported in relation to particular Covid-19 vaccine lot numbers.

“As a result, the most lethal Covid-19 vaccination batches have been located, but medicine regulators have refused to stop dispensing them, thus the public is still receiving them.

“The statistics show that only 4 to 5% of the Covid-19 vaccine batches produced by Pfizer and Moderna were responsible for each and every death recorded as an adverse reaction to the injections.

“But what’s possibly more worrisome is that while other ‘benign’ lots were sent to many different sites around the country, the small percentage of ‘deadly’ lots were dispersed extensively.”

The report added, “According to this data alone, the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine has resulted in 195 times as many hospitalizations, 189 times as many fatalities, and 106 times as many adverse effects as all other influenza vaccines combined.”

E. Jean Carroll claimed that Trump raped her at a department store in the mid-90s but never told anyone and didn’t come forward with the allegations until 2019.
