Summer Gallery Series - Shanon Materio

You have to be so careful when you are in the public eye and have been elected to public office.  No matter what, people and the media will be scrutinizing every little thing you do, and will look for corruption around every corner--if they don't find it around every corner, they will be looking under every nook and cranny.

Quote of the Day - Allen West

“I was invited to be a guest speaker with a premier assembly of conservative thinkers. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would be proud to know that a young black man born and raised in his same neighborhood rose based upon character. It is this equality of opportunity that is great about America … not President Obama’s phony rhetoric of inequality which is no more than equality of outcomes — social egalitarianism.”

Constitutional erosion

Comment Up

We continue to see the eroding of our Constitution by this administration.  The Founding Fathers firmly rejected a purely popular vote to elect the president because they wanted to balance the power of the larger states against the smaller.

The National Popular Vote effort, which could see only 14 states – those with the largest populations – decide the presidency for voters in all 50 states, is fully partnered with a George Soros-funded election group.

Singer Island beach

Comment Up
At the end of my excursion today, I ended up at Johnny Longboats for lunch. Great crab!
Then decided to check out the beach. Singer Island used to be the best beach around which was a hop and a skip from where I lived for 26 years. Not anymore is it the best. A lot of the stores were empty and former tenants are no longer there. Even though there is free parking at the beach, the back lot was virtually empty. It is another bad decision by a city government...the city took away the ocean view. It is a long walk to the beach now just to see a wave. You could be anywhere.

Once you trek up there, it is worth it.

The Federalization and Militarization of our Police

Comment Up

Years ago I remember Cara Jennings brought up the possibility that the police were over-stepping their authority and that they needed to go through proper channels for search and seizure, etc.  Of course, her political enemies went wild with that one calling her anti-police and at the same time hurling the dreaded "A" word...anarchist.  Now I have to wonder if she didn't have an eye into the window of the future. More and more police atrocities are being reported.  Are we becoming a police state?  Are they really using hollow point bullets?  Shoot first and ask questions later?

WND founder and CEO Joseph Farah began reporting the trend to militarize the police in 1998 and not too many people were paying attention, I for one. We even have Cpt. Silva in FBI training right now.

The biggest danger we face is the federalization and militarization of all law enforcement. Interagency task forces, bringing together local and state police with federal agents are now the rule of the day,” Farah noted. “Federal agencies bribe local cops with funding, equipment and training programs.

The challenge to the Fourth Amendment generated by the use of SWAT teams and no-knock warrants is likely to continue as a result of a ruling by the Indiana Supreme Court in 2011. I still can't forget the Chamber and Ramiccio calling SWAT on us for petitioning downtown.

In a 3-2 ruling, the court ruled that there is no right for a private citizen to resist illegal entry by a police officer. The court stated in its ruling “that there is no right to reasonably resist unlawful entry by police officers.”

Read more.... as it's something to think about and an eye opener as police home invasions have increased from 3,000 a year in the 1980's to 80,000 a year now.  It's a NO knock policy with way too many mistakes. Innocent people are getting killed and their homes being destroyed while bypassing the 4th Amendment

Our legal elite

Comment Up
This morning on the front page of the PB Post is an article on two crooked judges who funneled millions in ill gained money to a Jupiter condo by unfairly sentencing mixed up juveniles to private lockups. Do you remember the days when we looked up to the legal eagles?

Next there is an article mentioning John Page, president of the National Bar Association which is the nation's oldest and largest association of African American lawyers and judges. He and his group are demanding that Gov. Rick Scott have a special session to repeal or amend Florida's Stand Your ground law otherwise he says there will be massive boycotting which will affect our number one industry, tourism. Not only is that one of his threats, but Scott's re-election.

Being that I hate bullies, and the Trayvon Martin case was nothing more than a tragic self-defense case as proved by a Jury, I say
hold your ground, Governor Scott.

Defection by White Supremist

Comment Up

His father founded the white-supremacy forum Stormfront. His mother was once married to David Duke. Derek Black was born to lead the white-power movement—until he defected. Derek made national news when, in August 2008, he was elected to serve as a Republican committeeman in Palm Beach, Florida (the local Republican Party unseated him in December 2008). And guess what? He still lives in West Palm Beach.

Guantanamo Bay

Comment Up

The Guantanamo Bay detention camp, according to Wikipedia, is a detainment and interrogation facility of the United States military located within Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba. The facility was established in January 2002 by the Bush Administration to hold detainees it had determined to be connected with opponents in the Global War on Terror including Afghanistan and later Iraq, the Horn of Africa and Southeast Asia. It is operated by the Joint Task Force Guantanamo (JTF-GTMO) of the United States government in Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, which fronts on in Cuba.

Over 5 years ago while in campaign mode, Obama promised its closure. Now he is still spouting the same old rhetoric, afraid of negative international opinion, and recently said, “I think it is critical for us to understand that Guantánamo is not necessary to keep America safe. It is expensive. It is inefficient. ... It is a recruitment tool for extremists. It needs to be closed.” Actually, it is an unfulfilled campaign and presidential policy that will be his legacy.

Besides getting Qurans and other special requests fulfilled, the terrorists housed there now say that they don't want their genitals searched for contraband such as nails, shanks, ballpoint pens and even an MP3 player that was discovered. They're special, I guess. They are terrorist enemies and now  demand "rights" while incarcerated. A federal judge sided with them saying it violated their religious rights. Gimme a break!  Recently they went on a hunger strike.

It's at the point where we should ask if we ever should throw captured terrorists in a military prison or just let them escape to kill again...or why are we in wars to begin with?  We could just throw up our arms and surrender to these criminals.   Daqduq, photo above, had been in U.S. military custody in Iraq since 2007 for his involvement in a carefully orchestrated plot that killed, kidnapped and tortured American military officers and then was freed after Obama refused to send him to Guantanamo. He was released by Iraq to go out and kill Americans again.

Quote of the Day - Ted Cruz

Car thefts and vandalism increase

Comment Up

It seems that the car thieves are out in full blast. Neighborhood president, Robert Waples, reports another casing for a car theft that took place again in the ROLOH neighborhood at 914 Wright Drive. Many of our neighbors leave cars here during the summer months as they are snowbirds but you don't have to be a snowbird to be victimized.

This is how the thief does it: A vehicle pulls up and knocks on the door over several days and different times to ascertain that the home is unoccupied.

Last night it was an SUV with a black male who was caught casing the house and hid behind bushes. There must be signs that the owners are not in residence, i.e. shutters on the windows. Neighbors have been keeping an eye on the house. PBSO has informed Robert that they will increase patrols.

If you see someone suspicious in your neighborhood, call PBSO 688-3000.

Australia says NO to Illegal Aliens

While U.S. lawmakers are preparing to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens in a move that will change the cultural and political environment of the nation forever, THIS country has another idea. WARNING: You do NOT want to be caught trying to sneak in.

Since 2008 (the same year Obama was elected) more than 1,000 people have perished at sea, and almost 50,000 people have arrived on almost 800 illegal boats, with a budget blowout of over $10.3 billion. All the liberals and socialists there are yelling bloody murder. We should follow in Australia's footsteps.

According to FAIR, illegal aliens cost U.S. taxpayers more than $100 billion each year and if amnesty passes in our country, watch out.

Following is a post from some brave ANONYMOUS cyber attacker with my answers.

At least you claim it's your blog that: "the chair of pac will be contacting their attorney". That was a true statement.

You also posted "legal action will be brought against this commission". So who's starting rumors?  Show me where I said that!

You claim the negative no people are only involving themselves in reading depositions.  that's because the naysayers can't stand to read the truth about the "best commission ever" and who cost the working class taxpayers $2.6 million.  As said, it was this commission that settled with the flim flam man when he didn’t have a case. Can’t help that this commission is scared.

You can't argue the point that when Stanton was city manager she cut the code department to pacify Jennings and Golden. This is undisputable.  As proved at the time, she shifted 2 positions and cut the code officers by one. Now, city staff, once again, has decided that Code has not worked and they are revamping it to fit Stanton’s mold.

There are numerous frivolous lawsuits filed against the city. Who's filed them? You tell me…it is your frivolous charge.

How can a sworn legal deposition be a "distorted message"?  Again you twisted the intent…

There you go again wallowing in quicksand you obtuse silly revisionist bitter delusional person.  My late mother would disagree with you.

Bozos, get on the bus! - Lake Worth downtown heights

Comment Up

Have you gotten on the bus yet? These are a few of the photos in the latest Code Analysis of February 2013. If you notice, they resemble the graphics suggested by former commissioner, Suzanne Mulvehill, on how our downtown could look with taller buildings and who has been torn to shreds for this that or the next thing and for similar graphics she showed prior to the height petition process.

Do these photos look familiar? Similar?
Oh, and don't forget--the NO people lost this vote.

The negative NO are only involving themselves in reading depositions that were taken several years after the flim flam man was kicked off our beach for non-performance.  Honing in on depositions and denigrating former commissioners is to justify, in some sick and perverse way, why this commission paid Willard (Greater Bay) $1.6  million bucks. They want to blame everything on former commissioners--slum, blight, crime and illegals and every crazy law suit imaginable. There is no justification for settling with a scam artist but there are some in our city who "get off" on it and who continue to give a distorted message of fact.

Royal Baby Named

George Alexander Louis was the name chosen by his royal parents, William and Kate.

GEORGE:  Via Old French and Latin, comprised of words meaning 'earth' and 'to work', the name George was borne by a shadowy figure now the patron of England, Germany and Portugal. It is thought he may have been martyred in Palestine in the Diocletian persecution of Christians. The notion of dragon slaying is merely a medieval Italian mistruth. Popularity increased in the 15th century, bolstered by the appearance of George I as king of England in 1714.

ALEXANDER:  From the Latin form of Greek name Alexandros, comprised of 'to defend' and 'man warrior', Alexander became very popular in the post-classical period. Usage is largely derived from the fame of Alexander the Great, King of Macedona

LOUIS:  Louis was a very common name amongst French royals and noblemen. The name was borne by sixteen French kings up to the French Revolution

Commission Logic

Comment Up

The commission and their developer backed supporters say that a 4 story building can't be built--they must have a 6 story building.  What they are saying is that developers want to build higher--more money to be made.  Their other argument is to allow heights to be compatible to the other buildings that are taller than 45 feet in those blocks. Why?  Well, just because. They want to convince you that we were never a low-rise city and by saying it over and over it will finally sink in and "stupid" people will change their minds.  Of course now what they have done by not honoring the vote is to allow 65 feet in our downtown and 45 foot buildings in the section west of Dixie. I guess that is to be compatible to the EcoCentre building or City Hall while ALL of the rest of the properties are one and two stories as well as all surrounding homes in the neighborhood.

Ask yourself why they want to dishonor voters and only want to honor developers? They really believe that by ignoring the vote by the YES people, it will be no big deal.

Between now and March 2014, do you think that they will all of a sudden become capable of or be characterized by clear or valid reasoning in anything? If they show this much contempt towards you now, will you remember that on election day?

Alaska Pebble Mine

On the heels of the Obama administration clamping down on oil and natural gas exploration and President Obama declaring what many consider to be a war on coal, environmental groups are now urging the government to deny exploration of the world’s largest known copper reserve before the permitting process even begins.

The FEMA Fiasco

Comment Up

It is no wonder that the public never heard about the FEMA fiasco until lately. What does a city do when they have taken money from the government in the tune of $26 million for three hurricanes in 2004 and 2005, and now FEMA wants the city to return multi millions ($8 mil now reduced to right under $4 mil) which FEMA says the city is not entitled? I wouldn’t want that to get out in the public either. Lake Worth has enough problems with its reputation as it is.

Last Tuesday night, the city gave more attention to the Fourth of July event and the raft races as well as a report from one neighborhood association than it did on one single important issue that came before the body. Having said that, not much comes before the commission these days. Their goal is to get the heck out of there by 7:30pm and never let the public know what's going on. This attitude probably reflects why the public NEVER was informed about the FEMA fiasco until management could no longer keep it under wraps.  The city management obviously had made a decision not to discuss this dirty laundry. This seems to be the method of operation on what goes on in the city as management is reluctant to talk about things unbecoming a city government or just about anything specific unless they have to. Eventually the Finance Director was given the direction to go ahead and give a full report a few weeks ago.

As previously stated, if you look over the biggest part of the FEMA claim, the utility is the culprit. This is the one area of our city where no one knows what's going on. I would imagine that management has interviewed every single employee who was working here during the three hurricanes who are still in our employ and all those who signed off on and submitted bills to FEMA—all those who made the decision to include the various materials for submittal, who approved the payroll and who determined the work schedule and levels of personnel.

If the city manager has done that in conjunction with a utility expert that he can rely on to be candid and forthcoming, someone should have been able to readily identify erroneous or even false submissions to FEMA. If he had interviewed staff even briefly, his utility expert would have been able to ascertain what the invoices were for and if they pertained to hurricane damage. We don't expect the city manager to understand what specific equipment was relative to the hurricanes, but staff at the time will know, and there lies the rub. No one is going to fess up and commit themselves to any specific known or faulty submission. It’s a disgrace, and it all started and ended at the top of management at that time.  From what a source told me, they felt that "everyone else was doing it" so it was a-okay.

They had purchased inventory items such as poles and transformers and billed them against the storms, so says a source who was there at the time. 400 poles!  I am also in copy of an invoice submitted to FEMA that was for work on the Lucerne Condo project being built at that time. My source says this had nothing to do with hurricane damage. Some claims were already paid by insurance and still submitted to FEMA. Some people believe, after reviewing the docs, that fraud was committed and some people need to go to jail. Strong stuff.

Now we have a city government and a city commission that has to deal with the ills of the past under Paul Boyer where every damn thing went missing while the city feels that they are forced to claim that no funny business took place back then in order for our city to maintain some sort of credible reputation and more importantly, stay afloat.

In reviewing the current storm plan it does not address the major issues raised by FMEA and how the current staff has put policies and procedures in place to mitigate a reoccurrence of the city’s past failures. In fact the plan is not current even though the cover page indicates it is the plan for 2013.

But just like everything else that is unpleasant, this too will be kept quiet. The city will hope their next FEMA appeal will be favorable too as the number of years that have passed since the hurricanes will be advantageous to their objective. The Commission has a moral duty to get to the bottom of it and the truth. However, this commission has showed no outrage and seems to be acting in open, undeclared, but blatant bureaucratic complacence and is going along with Staff's explanations.

In another case along very similar lines-- Outrage peddlers are silent because this story doesn’t fit the narrative of racial strife. Al Sharpton can’t Tweet about his photo ops with Jay Z and Beyonce over instances of justice like this. So do Sharpton, NAACP, Piers Morgan, Stevie Wonder, etc, etc, all believe that Roderick Scott is a murderer? That he should have been denied his ability to defend himself? Are they really wanting to reintroduce Reconstruction-era suppression on the ability and right to self defense?

Read more... on the case that doesn't fit the race baiting narrative of Al Sharpton and the boys who just want to continue to hate.

Now we have a big movement in Florida by those outraged by the Zimmerman verdict. People who scream the most get the attention with the liberal press. It doesn't matter that Stand Your Ground had nothing whatsoever to do with the Zimmerman/Martin case. People have the right to defend themselves under the Constitution. That doesn't matter either, not to these people. Jury verdicts don't matter. They want Stand Your Ground repealed.  Governor Rick Scott is standing his ground and says he will not call a special session for all the screamers and race baiters.

Let the voters decide and put it on the ballot. But then, it might turn out just like the last election in Lake Worth. The voters decided but the outcome was denied.

Case 13098648
Palm Beach County Sheriff
7/19/2013 3:19:00

This is the same block where the used hypodermic needle was found...crime happening regularly right near  Bryant Park. I guess now we all need to check the rear of our cars.

These criminals used to come out at night like cockroaches but are no longer afraid of daylight. They are not the least bit worried about the sheriff because they seldom even see a sheriff's vehicle. They are even burglarizing homes in the middle of the day.

Corruption? You haven't seen anything yet

Election contribution laws have changed which will lead to more corruption. Now let's see the corruption really begin especially in Lake Worth--

Contributions, Limitations on the following:
  •  1. To a candidate for statewide office or for retention as a justice of the Supreme Court, $3,000. Candidates for the offices of Governor and Lieutenant Governor on the same ticket are considered a single candidate for the purpose of this section.
  •  2. To a candidate for retention as a judge of a district court of appeal; a candidate for legislative office; a candidate for multi-county office; a candidate for countywide office or in any election conducted on less than a countywide basis; or a candidate for county court judge or circuit judge, $1,000.
See the complete Florida rules that have been raised to $1,000 max in our local elections and an un-emancipated child under the age of 18 may now contribute $100 per election. What will they approve of next?  Fido the dog and Freddie the fish? I am a firm believer that money needs to be out of our election process and everyone running, candidate or PAC alike, have the same advantages and an even playing field when it comes to money in political campaigns.  Without that, money definitely and unequivocally corrupts the democratic process.

Evidence of money as well as moral corruption was in this last election held in Lake Worth on Heights when the No side of the vote designed, bought and paid for and had erected an illegal  banner on The Gulfstream Hotel as well as printed flyers stating "Vote No to really protect our low-rise cottage neighborhood." To them, and to some on their side, they thought it "funny," "cute" and "clever" and believe that all is fair in love, war and politics. It was nothing but dishonest. The election fine from Tallahassee on the banner was not stiff enough and the silence of this city government, along with staff, was loud and clear..."We want our freaking way!"

There is no doubt that money does corrupt elections and on the local level we have a constant problem with special interests giving the maximum contributions to those who support their interests, i.e., the Unions, Board of Realtors, the Chamber of Commerce, and of course, obsessed people who all approve of development anywhere and everywhere as the answer to our problems. Those who depend on the average grassroots voter can't raise enough money in order to oppose candidates who coddle special interests or their own personal interests such as advocating for the downtown of Lake Worth growing taller as example. Those who have involved themselves in only the greater good trying to protect our city, risk losing the vote or are voted out of office by a public inundated with negative campaign fliers full of lies from the well financed candidates.

This "fight" in Lake Worth has been going on for several decades. Many of the developer "players" are still voting here, are on city boards and now in office. Those with the most money take advantage of an apathetic or uninformed public and have the best chance to win. It has become more and more difficult to find well-qualified candidates who are not beholding to special interests or driven by their own personal power. It's a battle.

“Corruption is authority plus monopoly minus transparency.” And having lots of money is a big advantage.

Quote of the Day - Allen West

"I am a black male who grew up in the inner city of Atlanta and no one ever followed me in a mall.  I don't recall any doors clicking when I crossed the street. And I never had anyone clutching their handbag when I got on an elevator. I guess having two awesome parents who taught me to be a respectful young man paid dividends."
