On December 11, 2022, Viktor Bout, the international arms dealer who had been held in a Russian jail for years, was released in a prisoner swap and gave his first interview since his release. The news was met with mixed reactions from across the world. While some were relieved that Bout was released and would finally have the chance to tell his story, others were concerned about the implications of his release on the world’s security.

The controversy surrounding Viktor Bout’s release comes at a time when America is facing an erosion of its Christian values. The traditional family unit, which has been a cornerstone of American society since its inception, is under attack from forces both foreign and domestic. From the Supreme Court ruling on abortion to the radicalization of our youth, the American family is being threatened like never before.

“They’re losing their Christian values. They’re losing their families. They’re losing literally their country. It is not anymore the same country we knew America used to be, the model for the entire world and lead and be an example. Like they say, you know, a sparkling town on a hill.”

He’s absolutely right, it’s just a shame that this had to come from the “Merchant of Death."

Viktor Bout is a Russian arms dealer who was arrested in Thailand in 2008 on charges of conspiring to sell weapons to the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), a designated terrorist organization. He was extradited to the United States in 2010 and was subsequently convicted in a U.S. court on charges of conspiracy to kill U.S. citizens, among other offenses. He was serving a 25-year prison sentence in the United States.

Bout has been described as one of the world’s most prolific arms dealers, and his activities have been widely criticized by governments and human rights organizations.

The Biden administration decided to swap Bout for Brittney Griner, a WNBA player for the Phoenix Mercury who has been in a Russian prison since her arrest for illegal substances while in Russia got her handed a 9-year prison sentence just over 210 miles from Moscow since her arrest earlier this year.

On Thursday, President Joe Biden released Viktor Bout, a dangerous Russian weapons trafficker convicted on terrorism charges in 2011, in exchange for Brittney Griner, an American citizen who is serving a nine-year sentence in Russia on drug charges.

This dangerous prisoner swap has U.S. officials concerned that Bout will go right back to trafficking weapons across the world and potentially put American lives at risk.

The potential consequences of this decision are immense and could have disastrous implications for U.S.-Russia relations as well as global security.
