Violent Crime dopped in 2025

DOJ survey finds violent crime plunged 25 percent in 2025

Preliminary Justice Department figures show serious violent crime fell 25 percent in 2025 under renewed federal enforcement, leaving hundreds of thousands fewer Americans robbed, assaulted, or sexually attacked.

Serious violent crime rates dropped 25 percent in 2025 compared with 2024, and property crime rates fell 19 percent, according to preliminary findings from the Justice Department’s Bureau of Justice Statistics. The National Crime Victimization Survey estimates point to roughly 669,000 fewer victimizations involving rape or sexual assault, robbery, and aggravated assault, plus about 3.5 million fewer property crimes over the same span.

Breitbart News reported the early BJS (Bureau of Justice Statistics) numbers as federal authorities expanded border enforcement and focused on violent offenders, drug rings, and illegal firearms during President Donald Trump’s first year back in office.

The Census Bureau runs the survey for BJS by interviewing victims directly. It is one of the main national measures of crime that people actually experience, including incidents never reported to police. Homicides are not part of the survey.
