Our former Lake Worth Mayor is in the news!

Baltimore County passes pet protection legislation

Our furry friends aren't just cute—they're a huge responsibility, one that some owners unfortunately neglect. New laws passed by the Baltimore County Council this week seek to hold those pet owners accountable.

Dr. Rene Varela, Bureau Director with Baltimore County Animal Services, said the news was music to his ears.

"[I got] goosebumps. It's incredible to see all the hard work that's been going on for years finally come to fruition," Varela said.
  • The first piece of legislation would deem residents "reckless animal owners" if they commit multiple animal-related violations within two years. They would also be banned from owning a pet for four years and have their pet licenses revoked.
  • The second law shortens the window for residents to appeal an animal cruelty or neglect case from 30 days to 10 days.
  • The third adds a "potentially dangerous" animal category to the county's classifications, and the fourth clarifies basic owner responsibilities.
Varela told WMAR-2 News that the laws will help address widespread problems of people letting their dogs roam without supervision.

From AI: Rene Varela served as the Mayor of Lake Worth (now Lake Worth Beach), Florida, from 2009 to 2011, elected in a 2009 runoff. A veterinarian by profession, he ran on a platform to rebuild taxpayer confidence and reduce city electric rates. He did not seek a second term and resigned abruptly in May 2011.

Dr. Varela has a 10 year anniversary

—Baltimore County Animal Services (BCAS) is marking a milestone anniversary this weekend

It is celebrating 10 years of operations at its Baldwin facility. To commemorate a decade of growth and animal advocacy, the organization will host a 10-hour Adopt-a-Thon and Open House on Saturday, Jan. 10.

The event will run from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the shelter located at 13800 Manor Road. The day is designed to offer the community a closer look at the facility’s operations while finding permanent homes for pets currently in the county’s care.

To encourage adoptions, BCAS is waiving all adoption fees for the duration of the event. Furthermore, every person who adopts a new pet will receive a PetSmart gift card to help with initial supplies.

The open house will feature several interactive and service-oriented highlights.

Why is this interesting to Lake Worthians?

Because Dr. Rene Varela, MS, VMD, MPH, is its Bureau Director and the former mayor of Lake Worth Beach.

Maryland Governor in La La Land on Crime

Dem Governor’s Epic Fail After Challenging Trump to Walk Crime-Ridden Streets

President Trump has once again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to truth and accountability, delivering a powerful and justified rebuttal to Maryland’s far-left Governor, Wes Moore.

After Moore issued a provocative and disrespectful challenge for the President to “walk our streets,” Trump did not hesitate to obliterate the governor’s hollow rhetoric with a stark dose of reality regarding the dire state of Baltimore.

In a characteristically nasty and misguided tone, Governor Moore attempted to deflect from his own abysmal record on crime by attacking the President. Moore exclaimed, “Donald Trump, if you are not willing to walk our communities, keep our name out of your mouth! If you actually were willing to walk our streets and not just talk about us from the Oval Office, you would see what we see: one of the greatest cities in the United States of America.”

This narrative, eagerly amplified by a sycophantic liberal media, is a complete fabrication designed to shield a failed administration from scrutiny.

The President wrote, “As President, I would much prefer that he clean up this Crime disaster (Baltimore) before I go there for a ‘walk.’

11 Military ships trapped in Baltimore Harbor

S.S. Denebola and S.S. Antares

4 Key Military Transport Ships Trapped In Port Of Baltimore

11 ships are trapped behind the Key Bridge, including 4 considered key to national defense. There are 11 cargo ships trapped in the Port of Baltimore behind the wreckage of the Francis Scott Key Bridge – including four that are supposed to be able to set sail at a moment's notice to support the overseas deployment of U.S. military forces.

The four ships, the SS Antares, SS Denebola, Gary I. Gordon and Cape Washington, are part of the U.S. Maritime Administration's Ready Reserve Force, a fleet established in 1976 to quickly supply American troops around the world.

Two of them – the Antares and the Denebola – are among the world's fastest – capable of sailing from the East Coast to Europe in six days.

The Army Corps of Engineers hopes to open a limited-access channel for some vessels by the end of this month and to restore normal capacity to Baltimore's port by May 31.

Federal taxpayer money will be used to rebuild the bridge says Joe

Biden To Take Money From Taxpayers To Rebuild Baltimore Bridge- Company Off The Hook

The Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse is a prime example of Biden’s reckless leadership and lack of accountability.

Instead of standing up for the victims and seeking justice from the responsible corporations, Biden is more than happy to throw taxpayer money at the problem and hope it goes away. This is not the type of leadership that Americans need or deserve.

It’s time for Biden to prioritize the well-being of the American people and hold corporations accountable for their actions, rather than using their negligence as an opportunity for political gain.

Klacik running for Elijah Cummings' seat

"I am in. So I am no longer thinking about it. We're in. I'm doing it. We're filing. I'm excited. We need changes. We need changes not just in Baltimore, but on Capitol Hill. First of all, they're not getting any work done, if we're going to be honest. Also, we need stronger Republican voices against socialism, against 'the Squad,' just helping with his policies and draining the swamp. Honestly, I think the American people need stronger voices on transparency within Congress."

Elijah was a victim of a Home Robbery in Baltimore

OMG,

Elijah Cummings’ Baltimore Home Is Robbed

And guess what, Democrats are blaming it on Trump. Ya can't make this stuff up.

So much BS. Mr. Cummings, just get Baltimore cleaned up.

Crime Rates. More than half of Baltimore's 309 homicide victims in 2018 were shot in the head, according to the police department's annual homicide analysis. And as far as overall crime including robbery that would include home robberies such as Elijah Cummings experienced, Baltimore is safer than 1% of U.S. Cities. {Scout] Who in their right mind can defend that?

Trump is a Fox and Baltimore has a Rat Epidemic

HUD official Lynne Patton says $16 billion recently given to Baltimore. Wants to know, where’d it go?

"“President Trump has given $16 billion in 2018 alone to Elijah Cummings’ district in federal grants,” Patton explained. “We have given more money in homeless funds to Baltimore than the last administration. We have given more money in ‘community development grants.'”

Sanctuary cities going easy on alien criminals

U.S. city with highest murder rate paying to defend ILLEGALS is a city in which I once lived--.

There's plenty of dangerous places right now in America, but this city tops them all when it comes to the murder rate. And now, in an astonishing move, the local government is actually paying to defend illegal aliens.

Lost Souls of Baltimore

"Even statues of children are no longer safe from anti-American vandals.

A bronze statue depicting two children honoring the national anthem in Patterson Park in Baltimore was defaced Monday with red paint. The words 'Racist Anthem' were painted in front of it."

Baltimore is infamous for its very high crime rate, including a violent crime rate that ranks high above the national average. [Wikipedia]  It's too bad. It used to be a wonderful city when I was there 50 years ago.

Baltimore, a hell of a place

Everything is out of whack--out of control. The bad guys seem to be winning and all this politically correct stuff is out of whack too. It's an excuse for every criminal to be more bold and do what he does best. Crime is up in Baltimore since six officers were indicted for homicide for their parts in the death of Freddie Gray. Now the Baltimore Police are giving the people what they say they want--slower reactions by the police to crime or suspicious actions by citizens.

Last year, Baltimore was second only to Detroit in its number of total murders, as the city experienced 233 homicides in 2014. And since this timid approach to policing is now in effect in Baltimore, crime and murder have sky-rocketed with the most murders having been committed since 1972.

“Even though you have reasonable suspicion, nine out of ten times, that officer is going to keep on driving” said one police officer who was interviewed yesterday on CNN. Read about it...

I lived a little north of Baltimore in the 60's and the place was great, the people were great but then, everything was great back then anywhere you lived. Baltimore was safe and fun. Today it is a hell of a place.

Cities and Country in Chaos

Watch this video if you missed it last night...it has everything:  idiotic and rude black activists to Sheriff David Clarke commenting on the entire Obama transformation of policing in the 21st Century. Obama almost suggested an excuse for these demonstrations by blaming the plight of poor blacks on corrupt politicians and Wall Street. Listen to all the stupid excuses for these destructive demonstrations caused by what they claim as "racism" and white supremacy.

Dershowitz on 6 officers charged in death of Freddie Gray

"The mayor outrageously said we're going to get justice for the victim, the family and people of Baltimore, never mentioning the defendants. Under our Constitution, the only people who are entitled to justice are the defendants...
