Biofire taking orders on first Smart Gun With Fingerprint Unlocking

Smart guns, otherwise known as personalized handguns, have been in development for many years. The CEO and Founder of Biofire Technologies, Kai Kloepfer, told The Epoch Times in an interview that this is the first “major innovation in how a handgun has been designed or manufactured in 50 years.”

Kloepfer, 26, has been working on designing a smart gun since he was a teenager. “This is a new option for gun owners to give them peace of mind that their children or criminals won’t get their hands on it.”

The Biofire Smart Gun is a handgun that can be stored with fingerprints and 3D facial recognition to unlock it to shoot. The company says unlocking works in the dark. The data is stored in the gun in encrypted form. The gun can have biometrics for up to five total authorized users.

"I've not just built a product, but an entire company around: How do we build an extremely reliable product that will always unlock for you anytime that you pick it up, and will never unlock when your kid finds it," Kloepfer said.

"Mr. Nice Guy," Dylan Harrison, a convicted felon serving a 12 month prison sentence for illegal distribution of synthetic marijuana, still has two shops on Lake Avenue. Directly before his court case, he got a new partner, Ron Van Tassell, who has been developing a new product that they say is a dietary supplement drink, Mr. Nice Guy Relaxinol.  The ingredients in this new drink are legal at this time according to the PBSO--melatonin and other ingredients found in teas to help you sleep and Van Tassell is loading the product for full effect. The full effects of long-term exogenous (dietary) supplementation in humans have not yet been ascertained, Wikipedia.  Harrison's and Van Tassell's intent, if marijuana becomes legal for recreational use, is to add it to their product.

So, if in the future you spot real zombies walking down Lake Avenue, never fear, the entrepreneur is near. They will all just be sleep-walking.

CRA looking to sub-let space in Shuffleboard Court Building

No sooner does the City of Lake Worth lease out the Shuffleboard Court Building rent free to the CRA for the promotion of culture and arts with the City paying for water, gas, electricity, cable, trash collection removal and any other utilities that perhaps they forgot to mention in the Lease, when the CRA puts out this press release:

CRA seeking tenants for new Arts Centre

The Lake Worth CRA is seeking a non-profit arts or cultural based organization to sublease space at the Shuffleboard Courts Building located at 1121 Lucerne Avenue. Overall management should be provided by the organization submitting a proposal while administration for the building will be provided by the CRA. The length of the sublease will be one year, with an option to lease for an additional year. The CRA is seeking one responder for varying activities both day and night to provide the public with multiple options for arts and cultural education and enhancement. Organizations with multiple programs may submit singularly or may make accommodations for other groups to use the space as they deem appropriate.

This is the same concept of what the Living Arts Foundation, Inc. is using at our city owned building at 1105 2nd Avenue South.  It's all about government grants. The CRA is great at spending government money and even has its own grant writer. On the other hand, the City excels in handing off city owned buildings to entities for $1 a year. Out of sight, out of mind.

According to the Lease, neither the tenant or the landlord may assign, mortgage, pledge, or encumber the Lease in whole or in part, without the other party's prior written consent.  It only took the CRA and the City a few weeks to be somewhat transparent with the public as to their intent.

What ever happened to the CRA's mission of eradicating slum and blight?

The Entrepreneur will be upset when he reads about this latest bill passed in the Florida Senate--It still has a lot of hoops it must go through first...at least their talking about it. It could be effective on July 1, 2014.

The bill has the support of the Florida Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics. It's a start.

The Senate measure would make it a misdemeanor to sell e-cigarettes and related products to minors. So, knock it off Lake Worth entrepreneur, or you could end up with one year in the county "slammer."

Government Employee Raises

It simply is amazing how government workers have become so arrogant. I'm not talking about those protected by unions with set contracts for employees you can't even fire even if they are not performing up to snuff.  I'm talking about those who present their proposal for salary and benefits.

I worked as an employee for public companies as well as independent entrepreneurs. If I ever felt that I was not being paid or raised sufficiently, I would find another job. You didn't go asking for raises every year. Asking for stuff was considered impolite. Employers need to understand what you do for them and your value. Employees need to understand the finances of the guy who pays him for his services. If an employer doesn't understand your value, then you're in trouble and asking for that raise will not bring you the respect you believe you deserve.

Now we have Boynton Beach's city manager telling the commission what salary and benefits she will expect...a raise of 21% when staff has not been raised in four years. She has compared herself to a CEO of a corporation with 742 employees and a $165 million budget. And she will get the raise, afterall, it's government and government just can't say "no" to spending other people's money. That is the big difference in a public company and government.

Gallup Poll on Socialism and other Terms

Gallup is out with a new poll that says 53% of Democrats or Democrat-leaners have a positive view of socialism. Overall, 61% of Americans rate capitalism positively, while 39% rate socialism positively. That 39% figure is up from 36% in 2010. Small business, free enterprise, and entrepreneurs all poll at least 85% positive.

These data reinforce the conclusion that certain terms in common use today in political and economic discourse are more politically charged than others. Any mention of capitalism, socialism, big business, or the federal government will evoke significantly different reactions from Republicans than from Democrats and from conservatives than from liberals. Those terms do better than either capitalism, socialism, or the federal government, even among respondents who identify themselves as Democrats or Democrat-leaners or as liberals, so says the Future of Capitalism.

The message rang loud and clear: Women broke the glass ceiling, now break the glass walls.

Priscilla Taylor, PB County Commissioner, was the keynote speaker at the first summit for women entrepreneurs on the Boca Raton campus of Palm Beach State College. Boca City Councilwoman Constance Scott and Lake Worth Commissioner Suzanne Mulvehill signed on as Growth Acceleration consultants.

The March 23 event was the kickoff of the new monthly Women Entrepreneurs Networking with speakers at 8:30 to 10 a.m. every last Tuesday of the month starting in April at the college's Center for Business and Entrepreneurship.

"Once the workplace opened up to American women, things have never been the same," said Palm Beach County Commissioner Priscilla Taylor, the keynote speaker. "We are the engine for growth and we're catching up. Women-owned businesses are growing at twice the rate. More than 40 percent of micro loans are going to women."

End the Free Lunch in Lake Worth

As Commissioner Scott Maxwell will be on one of those "free lunch" excursions, this time to Phoenix for a National League of Cities Economic Development Conference, we will not have the election swearing-in ceremony until Monday, November 14, 2011 at 9:30 AM.

The Economic Development Conference which is being held November 9-12, is supposed to help local leaders foster global economic linkages and encourage entrepreneurship and small business — both critical ingredients to more competitive cities in a 21st century economy. Now I ask, why in the hell are we sending someone to Phoenix? For global linkages? Our problems are much more immediate than that. Zacks and I agree on this one. The free lunches need to end.

In reality, this conference is nothing more than a FREE LUNCH on the taxpayers of Lake Worth who were just taxed a special assessment by a city commission that also raised advalorem and other taxes. As Zacks would say, "Get real."
