The Burning Man Blockade: When Eco-Protesters Meet Police Force

In a recent incident near the site of the annual Burning Man festival in Nevada, tensions flared as environmental protesters attempted to block the main highway leading to the event.

The standoff between the demonstrators and law enforcement from the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribal Police Department brought traffic to a halt for miles, with approximately 150 vehicles caught in the gridlock.

The protesters had strategically positioned signs attached to a trailer across the road, obstructing the passage of vehicles. Despite the frustration of motorists, their attempts to clear the blockade proved unsuccessful until the tribal police stepped in.

One nut job woman had even chained herself to the trailer in a bid to draw attention to their cause. The signs displayed slogans such as “General Strike for Climate” and “Abolish Capitalism.”

Coinciding partly with Labor Day weekend, Burning Man 2023 will take place Aug. 27 to Sept. 4. And an unbelievable price tag--Burning Man tickets start at $575 apiece and vehicle passes are $150 for the 2023 edition.

I understand THIS LICENSE Does NOT PERMIT the Sale of Alcoholic Beverages FOR CONSUMPTION on PREMISES and ONLY ALLOWS Package Sales in SEALED CONTAINERS...Swear under Oath or Affirmation under penalty of PERJURY... Authorized agents or employees of the Division of Alcohol Beverages and Tobacco, the Sheriff, his deputies and police officers can search and inspect the location during the festival for the purpose of determining compliance with the alcoholic beverage laws and no search warrant is needed. ??

• Sheriff services are authorized by the City of Lake Worth and the PBSO submits bills at the current extra-duty permit hourly rate and paid by the city.

• The City of Lake Worth has insured the Street Painting Festival for liability up to $1 million and $3 million in the aggregate. Medical expenses are excluded (don't get this) so don't fall down drunk on our city street. You will have to sue the city personally. FDOT is the certificate holder.

• The Street Painting Festival is the only entity that will receive profits from the sale of alcoholic beverages by their permit. In 2011, the Street Painting Festival made $234,868, not including expenses, which took up most of the profits. This is a huge endeavor to bring art awareness to Lake Worth and to make so little.

• The Street Painting Festival is exempt from any taxes

• The Festival did not have to pay an application fee nor did they have to pay for a permit.

• The city is providing dumpster trash service and use of electricity.

• There will be 15 carts and booths and all profits go to the Street Painting Festival, Inc.

• Public benefit is promoting the arts.

• Set-up for the event started at 6:30am yesterday and the break-down is 10pm Sunday.

• This year's theme is Movies

• Free trolley at the Tri-Rail station during the event

• 10am to 6pm Saturday and Sunday in the heart of downtown Lake Worth

Tree canopy is important, gives shade and all that jazz.  It's so important in Lake Worth, that the Tree Festival is having its 10th annual tree festival from 10 to 4 at the Cultural Plaza this Saturday. Just steps away from where city manager Michael Bornstein lives, the city says it is serious about trees and doing what it can to promote them.

Why then, did it cut down a 75 year old Banyan tree and replace it with a teddy bear?

 Call for Local Amateur Castle Building Competition

Lake Worth, FL (January 13, 2014) – The Inaugural Lake Worth Beach Sand Sculpting and Seafood Festival will be on Friday, January 24 through Sunday, January 26 at the Lake Worth Casino Building and Beach Complex. This creative new three day event, on the Lake Worth Beach, features the experts who produce the world famous Ft. Myers Sand Sculpting events; The Sand Lovers, bringing the same level of professional sculptors who will build sand castles from scratch beginning on Friday and progress throughout the weekend for a final competition on Sunday afternoon.

Amateur sculptors can compete on Saturday, January 25 in several categories – Sea Turtles (Children up to 8); Dolphins (Children 9-12); Sea Horses (Groups of 6); Rays (Teens 13-17); Manatees (18 & over).  Entry fee is $15.00 per person/team and includes a roped off sand plot. All other utensils, buckets, etc. must be provided. Those interested in entering can apply in person on Saturday from 10 am – 12 noon on the main stage. The competition begins at noon, with sculptors having until 4 pm to finish for judging. Awards will be presented at 5 pm. For a full list of rules and an application visit www.lakeworth/events.com.

Additional activities include the finest mouth-water seafood such as lobster rolls, grilled mahi-mahi, grouper fingers, conch fritters, conch and clam chowder, fried clams, fried shrimp and more. Festival hours are Friday, January 24, 12 noon – 9 pm, Saturday, January 24 & Sunday, January 25, 10 am – 5 pm. Admission is free, metered parking and some activities have a fee OR park downtown and ride the free shuttle from Bryant Park Saturday and Sunday 10 am – 6 pm. Entertainment Schedule:

ArtFest at the Lake Worth Beach

Folks, the city commission in conjunction with the CRA made a decision several years ago that Lake Worth would become an artists' destination. The next festival invades our beach park. A few positives of having the venue at the beach is that it should bring more parking revenue, more visitors to shop and dine at our Casino and  Pier as well as attracting a few new people to our beautiful beach park.

The Residents of Lake Osborne Heights in Partnership with the Lake Osborne Presbyterian Church would like to invite everyone to attend their End of Summer Fair on Saturday, August 17, 2013 From 10am to 2pm! It will be held at the church on 6th Avenue South and Sunset.

LOPC will be selling grilled food items and ROLOH will be selling beverages in order for both groups to raise funds for events throughout the year.  They have a line up of vendors that will be on hand to showcase local businesses, services and resources...from retail vendors, education programs, non-profits, PBSO and even a Bounce House for the kids to play.  Through showcasing their local resources, they are promoting sustainability within their community and enjoying a fun filled event with speakers, presentations and raffles!
