Tree canopy is important, gives shade and all that jazz. It's so important in Lake Worth, that the Tree Festival is having its 10th annual tree festival from 10 to 4 at the Cultural Plaza this Saturday. Just steps away from where city manager Michael Bornstein lives, the city says it is serious about trees and doing what it can to promote them.
Why then, did it cut down a 75 year old Banyan tree and replace it with a teddy bear?

Good question. Why are they giving all our city owned buildings to the arts for nothing?,,,Have them answer that one.
What was the reason Lynn they gave you for cutting that tree down? It seemed like it was in the same condition as the rest of them there. Did they really cut it down to replace it with with this old FAO Schwarz bear from the old Cityplace store? Whose idea was this? Did the Tree Board approve this?
Another example of the city's need of good management. The removal of the historic tree is a half of block here the city manager claims to live and is impossible for him not to know of the killing and destruction of this city asset as Otis right across the street from toojays where he usually eats lunch
Is the LW City manager really this clueless?
He needs to be more responsive and be honest and speak up.

We know why, it was a mistake by city staff who claimed the tree was diseased. The city has provided a reason although I agree that it really seems insufficient.
The tree needs to be replaced and the Dept. who improperly cut it down should pony up the funds from their budget.
but they WANT A BEAR there.
OK so the bear is now GONE. What else do you have to belly ache about? The tree WAS deceased and was NOT a Banyan, it was a Ficus which was devastated by white fly and had rot in the trunk. Someone DID jump the gun and was suspended for it. It WILL be replaced by another tree the Tree Board will recommend. Funding? Who knows.
I hope it is a nice shade tree that we can all get together around, hold hands and sing Kum BY Ya.
