Commissioner Herman Robinson and candidate for Palm Beach Sheriff retired Lt. Alex Freeman, are among the couple of volunteers who have responded yes to our invite. My husband and myself will be there as well. We need as many volunteers as possible The more volunteers the quicker we can finish helping our neighbor.

*This back-yard clean-up is to help a long time disabled senior resident of our community. If you have their own gloves, please bring them and dress accordingly. Refreshments will be provided.

Lake Worth Beach launches ‘city of neighborhoods’ plan - what is it and how will it work?

I would think by now that the City Administration would have it all figured out. After all, we have been working on our LDR's and Comprehensive Plan forever. Now they are hiring a series of consultants to work with our neighborhoods so that they can weigh in, offering their ideas. They are asking, "what kind of city do you want?"

Gimme a break and stop screwing around with our Comprehensive Plan. Give it up. You managed to get the vote on our city to change its name after 106 years.  Is this like Obama's transforming America mentality?

It's simple. Get rid of the slum, the blight and the crime for starters and start enforcing code. That's the planning we should be concentrating on.

Commission Meeting 5-7-19

The meeting lasted all of 1 hour and 36 minutes. As usual, the meat of the meeting was all on the Consent Agenda involving over $2.6 million. Also, there was a resolution No. 16-2019 authorizing a State Revolving Fund Loan for replacement of water mains in Lake Osborne Estates...a community actually not located in Lake Worth (Beach) in the amount of $7.5 million. Zero discussion.

No one on the commission thinks it's important to ever discuss what they slap on the consent agenda--never informing the public about any of it even though we have asked them to consider those who are actually picking up the tab...their bosses..

Mark Parrilla was there last night with his family and gave an update on the Genesis Neighborhood Association. The grant funding he had previously set up in the amount of $1,209 is in memory of his grandmother, Leocadia Fonseca. Last night, he just received notice of a second grant. One of his big goals is to have a community center in the Genesis NA.

If you want more information on applying for a grant and you live in that neighborhood, go to the Genesis NA web site. Applications will be accepted through July 3 and the winner will be announced on August 3.

Candidate Debate at The Beach Club

I got to the debate early (it didn't start until 7pm) so that I could order dinner and not disturb the candidates while they were center stage. However, there was still a lot of noise in the room as the connecting bar area was packed with patrons having fun.

The main room at The Beach Club was filled to capacity with standing room only. It was a really great debate, probably the best I have ever attended for a neighborhood association. All the candidates were effective and even some who did not fare so well at the Playhouse debate did extremely well last night. I enjoyed them all. They each answered the same questions with no rebuttals. It went smoothly and efficiently.

So now we all have to decide in just three weeks who will make the best commissioner in District 1 and District 4. Besides the candidates, the important decisions on the ballot are two amendments:  change the name of our city and sell off 501 Lake Avenue, our old Chamber of Commerce building.

So, if you are against these two amendments and believe as I do that changing the name of our city that has been in existence for 106 years would be a travesty of the first order and selling off our beautiful historic building downtown is a bad decision brought forward by the city, there is only one candidate that fits the bill--Richard Guercio.

This is a posting by Robert Waples of the ROLO team that I found very interesting. I continue to mention the amount of crime in our city that is understated or not even mentioned by our elected officials. So this is pertinent to that.

Our Crime Report Volunteer Carol Had good news and some very staggering news. Did you know that Palm Beach County is Number 3 in the State for Human Trafficking? Where crime is generally down in our neighborhood there are a few things to be concerned about. Carol please feel free to add to this post.

We found out tonight that our meeting place, the Lake Osborne Presbyterian Church has been broken into several times, Vandalized and other infractions. This is completely unacceptable and can not continue. We Plead to the community to be diligent and if you see activity at the Church after house to call PBSO! Non-emergency is 561-688-6400 or crime in progress 911. I could not attend as I had my own community meeting.

Thank you to all the members from the City that went over the road program for our neighborhood and we will be posting some pictures and drawings in the next few days. We are looking forward to the future of ROLO in the greater Scheme of the City of Lake Worth.

Big thanks to the attendance tonight as we really appreciate your input that directs your board members in what directions we take to help our neighborhood.

Another big topic was Homelessness, The issues we have in John Prince Park, the Lack of Resources available and the lack of response from the County regarding this issue. We will set up a meeting with County Commissioner Kerner and hopefully get him and PBSO to do a drive through with us and the proximity to our neighborhood.

There Must be resources that are offered to curb this issue that is so prominent in South Florida. A testimonial tonight reveled that a man in his 50's is now homeless due to circumstances beyond his control. Yet because he is not a drug user there are no resources available. A Goal for ROLO will be to start compiling a list of resources and urging officials and private enterprises to start addressing these issues.

Remember we have only 6 meetings a year and the next meeting will be on January 8th 2019 so please let your neighbors know and it is also our Elections.
