Proposed Municipal Service Taxing Unit

👮🏼‍♂️ Outcast: Bradshaw budget faces the boot

"Like a teenager who has outgrown his childhood bedroom, the $1.2 billion budget for the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has gotten so big it may need to move out on its own.

County commissioners, frustrated by state officials claiming they squander property tax money while praising Sheriff Ric Bradshaw’s spending, are proposing a municipal service taxing unit, or MSTU, to separate the sheriff’s budget from everything else.

Why it matters: The move would sharply reduce the cost of the sheriff’s services for city residents, while increasing it for residents of unincorporated areas. It would force the sheriff to justify annual increases to residents who would see a direct impact on their pocketbooks.

What they’re saying: “It’s the county’s responsibility to fund the budget for law enforcement services,” Bradshaw said in a statement declaring no objection to the proposal. “It’s their decision which method they choose to accomplish this. I only oppose not getting properly funded.”

The county budget would still cover the sheriff’s costs to run jails, secure the courts and analyze crime data.

Expenses for patrolling unincorporated portions of the county, which total hundreds of millions of dollars, would fall to the MSTU. Residents of Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach, Boca Raton and any other city with its own police force would pay for those universal services through the county tax but would get a lower county tax bill because they wouldn’t be part of the MSTU.

Those who live in the 12 cities, including Lake Worth Beach, Greenacres and Wellington, that have contracts with the sheriff’s office for law enforcement, also would not be part of the MSTU.

Sheriff Bradshaw on Immigration Enforcement

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said his agency has been consistent on immigration enforcement

as other Florida sheriffs made headlines expressing opinion that some enforcement has gone too far

As Florida sheriffs are expressing public reservations about excessive immigration enforcement, the sheriff of Palm Beach County — an area that leads the state in law enforcement contacts with undocumented immigrants — says his stance has not changed.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw told WLRN his officers weren't conducting sweeps, raids, or proactively enforcing immigration law, something he has maintained since last year.

" I'll do what I have to do in the normal course of law enforcement contacts and business because you can't do anything less than that," Bradshaw said.

"But we're not out here looking for people," he continued, "Stopping 'em on the streets, knocking on people's doors, going to places where people are working that we know are Hispanics. 'Ain't happening."

Sheriff Bradshaw wants more money

Sheriff budget tops $1 billion

He already takes 44% of the County budget

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw requested a $170 million budget boost for the coming year.

That would put the sheriff’s office budget over $1 billion for the first time.

Why it’s important: Spending on the sheriff’s office and county jails absorbs 44 percent of the county’s $2.45 billion general fund budget, which gets about two-thirds of its money from property taxes.

To help balance the budget, former County Administrator Verdenia Baker persuaded the sheriff to reduce his request by $37 million. But without the backing of county commissioners, she failed to get another $20 million from the sheriff.

What she said: “We can’t balance any more on your departments. We are bare bones,” Baker told commissioners at a May budget workshop. “Unless you want me to cut basic services on our side of the table in order to give the sheriff an additional $20 million. We just don’t have it.”

Ryan Wesley Routh caught on I-95

Martin County sheriff details how they captured assassination suspect on I-95

In a press conference Monday, Martin County Sheriff William Snyder called the apprehension of Ryan Wesley Routh Sunday afternoon the “highest profile stop” in the agency’s history. Snyder gave his deputies high praise for stopping the suspect without incident.

Footage of Routh being apprehended Sunday afternoon was released Monday by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

In the body camera footage, Routh’s hands are raised and a pink shirt is over his head as he’s taken into custody.

“I am thankful to the men and women of this sheriff’s department that put themselves in harm’s way,” said Snyder.

All of this unfolded shortly after what the FBI calls an apparent assassination attempt on former President’s Trump life. Snyder says solid communication with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office played a pivotal role in locating the suspect fast.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said Sunday that a witness was able to take a photo of the suspect’s fleeing SUV and its license plate.

Panhandling

Palm Beach Sheriff Offers Advice On How To Deal With Panhandlers

Local panhandling ordinances continue to fall and Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw explains why that's happening.

He says case law prohibits enforcement.

"In the courts it said people have the right to ask for help because they're homeless. Having said that, there's a difference between somebody coming up to you and saying 'Can I have a dollar?' and what we call aggressive panhandling where someone comes up and bangs on the window of your car."

The Lake Worth Beach City Commission this week voted to repeal its ban, while facing lawsuits. PBSO hadn't enforced the Lake Worth Beach ordinance since January.

Mayor Betty Resch, during that meeting, talked about the importance of coming up with a new ordinance that would withstand legal challenges." And I certainly agree to that.

Sheriff Bradshaw will allow Deputies to carry Narcan

PBSO allows deputies to carry Narcan in response to opioid epidemic

"The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office announced Monday that it has allowed deputies to carry Narcan in view of the current opioid overdose epidemic and large importation of Fentanyl.

The sheriff's office said the decision comes after numerous contacts with local, state, and federal partners on carrying Narcan by their officers.

PBSO will conduct a 3-year study on the use and results of having its officers carrying Narcan to determine continued deployment.

Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said the county will need to decide on the funding of approximately $200,000 to implement Narcan deployment.

According to Bradshaw, the money is not in the agency's present budget or the one presented for next year."

Bleeding Heart Omari back in the headlines!

Hardy calls for sheriff to vaccinate detainees

State Rep. Omari Hardy (D-West Palm Beach) has called on Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw to regularly test detainees in Palm Beach County’s jails for COVID19, and to work with local health agencies, as well the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners, to obtain COVID-19 vaccines for all eligible detainees.

Tonight's City Commission Meeting

Lake Worth (Beach) to decide if it needs task force on police, other issues

An agenda item crafted by Commissioner Herman Robinson requests the five-member board schedule a “special meeting” to create a task force that would look at issues connected to race in the wake of national and international protests following the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police.

Liberals love to invent problems that do not exist and have an uncanny talent to exasperate issues to the point of absurdity, violence and crime as you have seen in the country over the past three weeks.

Tonight's the night the commission discusses Omari Hardy's and Herman Robinson's claim that we have "systemic racism" in the City of Lake Worth. No we don't folks. Don't fall for it.

PBSO does a good job in our city curbing crime and working well with our residents; they are not social workers.

Sheriff Bradshaw agrees with President Trump

Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and the PBSO, arrested MS-13 gang members in Lake Worth after numerous shootings and two murders. Bradshaw knows how evil this and other gangs are. "They are dangerous like all gang members. They are particularly dangerous because they have no respect for human life at all,  and they are out to prove they are the most dangerous group," he said.

Power of the Purse - Trump and Ric Bradshaw

Sometimes your beliefs boil down to how it affects your pocketbook...funny how that is. Actually, it's more sad than funny when elected officials who take an oath to obey the law including federal law, break it or ignore it.

"According to the 2016 Current Population Survey (CPS), immigrants and their U.S.-born children now number approximately 84.3 million people, or 27 percent of the overall U.S. population. Since 1970, the number of U.S. immigrants more than quadrupled, rising from 9.6 million then to 43.3 million in 2015." [Migration Policy org]

Today we have Palm Beach County Sheriff, Ric Bradshaw and the Palm Beach County Commission agreeing to president Trump's request to help in the illegal immigration problem. Why have they agreed?  Grant Money.  Bradshaw says he won't be doing anything differently than he already does. He's cooperative you see and says we are not a sanctuary county.

It's the power of the purse--not ethics, morality or doing your sworn job per the law. Pathetic.

It's ICE's fault!

Palm Beach Sheriff Bradshaw: We Are Not A Sanctuary County

Many of us believe that Palm Beach County IS a Sanctuary county for illegal aliens. Bradshaw says we're not and he will certify that in order to to get federal grant money.

Getting ready for two Presidents

Kreusler Park

Kreusler Park has been bombarded by police and security for the president's arrival today as well as the president of China, Xi Jinping, who will be staying down the road at the Palm Beach Resort & Spa in Manalapan. Ric Bradshaw says he won't put up with any civil disobedience. He will have mobile jails in place.

We ARE a Sanctuary City - Don't kid yourself

In the Palm Beach Post today was an article on Sanctuary Cities wherein everyone in authority denies that we are a Sanctuary City or a Sanctuary County.  When you have a PBSO that is less than cooperative with the federal government in this regard, then we have a big problem.

Thanks to Ric Bradshaw, not only is Lake Worth a Sanctuary City but the  entire county of Palm Beach was named one and officially added to the  list on October 15, 2015. Source: 10-8-14 DHS DDO Report. Sanctuary Cities.

Back in June 2014, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said he will no longer hold illegal aliens in the county jail if they are arrested for shoplifting (this offense happens all of the time in Lake Worth--lock up everything Publix) or driving without a driver's license. He says that  he will release them immediately unless ICE goes before a magistrate. If they are arrested for a felony, that will be an exception. Bradshaw created this Sanctuary city status.

Read Bradshaw's statement back in 2014

ICE has to go before a judge before getting the criminal illegal released to them otherwise he won't hold them?  Bradshaw's policy opened up the floodgates for more and more illegals to drive without a license and commit petit theft. Don't we have enough crap in our city?

We have a big problem in Palm Beach County when elected officials and our own PBSO believe the government is forcing us to obey the law or when Commissioner Amoroso insinuates that it is a racial thing against brown people or those who don't speak English.

Lake Worth City Manager says we're not a Sanctuary City

Ric Bradshaw says the same thing when it comes to the County.

Read about it...

Lake Worth is a Sanctuary City right along with 30 other cities across the country. How in the heck did this happen in our country?  All of Palm Beach County under Public Safety with the PBSO, is a Sanctuary area as well because Ric Bradshaw will not call ICE when they encounter an illegal committing a crime. Why aren't the laws of this country enforced? Well, we know why. We just elected a new president who plans on changing this.

Miami caves to President Trump and orders employees to begin working closely with the federal immigration authorities.

The Easy Solution to Prevent Crime according to Bradshaw

Comment Up

With all the crime we have in Lake Worth (we pay $1.2 million a month to PBSO), it somehow falls back on the neighborhood citizens to be aware and to help solve. We are continually reminded to "Make the Call" if we see a suspicious person in our neighborhood and form Crime Walk Programs. In the meantime, criminals are taking over our city. They are not afraid of a few citizens walking the streets nor are they afraid of the reactive PBSO.

Now we have Rick Bradshaw whose Sheriff Department has a $555 million budget to make us safe essentially saying the same thing.

On Sanctuary Cities

Comment Up

“Sanctuary policies undermine justice and the rule of law. They jeopardize public safety and have a burdensome financial toll on government. Sanctuary policies encourage further illegal immigration, undermine anti-terrorism efforts, and promote an underground economy that sabotages the tax base. They also waste much-needed public resources as they force the federal government to find and arrest deportable criminals already taken into custody by local law enforcement.”

~ Jeff Landry, Louisiana's Attorney General

Bradshaw has said that PBSO has limited its cooperation with the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) when it demands they detain an immigrant. Taking over 60% of the county's budget, Ric Bradshaw is up for re-election on November 8.

Federal Judge tells Ric Bradshaw to expect hours for deposition

"Judge Daniel Hurley just ordered Bradshaw, who’s returning today from a 24-day vacation where he surrendered the keys of the agency to Chief Deputy Michael Gauger, to sit down for questioning Friday at 2 p.m."

Bradshaw originally told the court that he could give around 45 minutes to this but the Judge has told him that it could take up to four hours.
