Ryan Routh: Suspect in assassination attempt of Trump can hire expert to check rifle's operability

For all of us out who are wondering what's going on with Ryan Wesley Routh who wanted to assassinate our President--

A suspect accused of attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump last September in Palm Beach County can hire an expert to examine the rifle recovered from the scene, but only to determine its operability, a federal judge said Tuesday.

Ryan Wesley Routh's attorneys had asked that their expert be allowed to inspect, photograph and test the rifle in order to evaluate a government expert's findings, as well as test it for other information that they thought was relevant.

In Tuesday's order, U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon limited the testing to just its operability, with a May 15 deadline. Routh's trial is scheduled for September.

Prosecutors say Routh methodically plotted to kill Trump for weeks before aiming a rifle through the shrubbery as Trump played golf on Sept. 15, 2024, at his country club near West Palm Beach.

Routh faces five federal charges. The hearing will focus on the semi-automatic, SKS-style rifle authorities say Routh planned to use in the assassination attempt. Law enforcement authorities found the rifle in what they described as a “sniper’s nest” near the fence just outside of Trump’s golf club. Routh has pleaded not guilty. [Fox 29]

"Prosecutors say there’s no question that the gun worked. An FBI weapons expert test-fired the rifle when it was seized and processed as evidence. But they say the question of how well it worked is not relevant.

More importantly, they say, is Routh’s alleged intent to attempt to kill then-Presidential candidate Donald Trump. If there was poor planning, problems with the gun, or other things that prevented the attack from happening, they say those details can’t be used as a defense."

State of Florida announces new charges against Ryan Routh

The state of Florida is filing new charges against the man accused of attempting to assassinate President-elect Donald Trump earlier this year in Palm Beach County.

Attorney General Ashley Moody was in Martin County on Wednesday to announce additional attempted murder charges against Ryan Routh.

Following the second assassination attempt against Trump this year, Routh fled north on Interstate 95 toward Martin County.

Just two days after the assassination attempt in Palm Beach County, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an executive order on Sept. 17 to launch a state-level investigation.

In October, the state of Florida filed a lawsuit to stop the U.S. Department of Justice from blocking a state investigation into the second assassination attempt on Trump.

The feds have stonewalled Florida’s investigation of the Trump assassination attempt at every turn, and I appreciate AG Ashley Moody and her team for plowing forward despite such resistance.

Former FBI agent Tim Clemente said heated rhetoric equating former President Trump to a dictator likely led to the latest assassination attempt on Sunday.

"I would think we‘re going to find that this guy is extremely politically motivated," Clemente said of suspect Ryan Routh, during a CNN appearance.

Clemente said Routh was "probably was spurred on by much of the political diatribes that are going on these days, talking about Trump, equating him to Hitler and things like that."

"So I don‘t think this is the last we‘ll see of crazies out there trying to do this," he warned.

"It is unprecedented in a civilized society. And I think we‘re becoming more and more uncivilized, sadly, with the political diatribes that are going on and the political indictments of either candidate," Clemente responded.

He went on to blame media pundits calling Trump "Hitler" for his "bloodbath" comments about the auto industry as an example of rhetoric that's "led to" these attempts on Trump's life.

Neighbors of the man who tried to assassinate Donald Trump at his Florida golf course say the gunman had a reputation for being "a little cuckoo."

Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was arrested outside Trump International Golf Course on Sunday afternoon after Secret Service found him hiding in the bushes with a rifle.

Details of the shooter's life are being filled in after the shocking assassination attempt, which is the second attempted killing of Trump in a few months.

A pickup truck outside Routh's Hawaii home had a Biden-Harris bumper sticker. In social media posts, Routh echoed rhetoric from Biden and Harris alleging that Trump is a threat to democracy.

A neighbor in North Carolina, where Routh lived until recently, said she is shocked at what Routh did, but he made people uncomfortable.

"I thought he was just living the life in Hawaii with the girlfriend and all, so for him to be assassinating the president, that’s just crazy." "I mean I didn't think he would go that far. I knew he was a little cuckoo, but assassinating the president? I mean he's going to be going away for a long time," the neighbor said.

Martin County sheriff details how they captured assassination suspect on I-95

In a press conference Monday, Martin County Sheriff William Snyder called the apprehension of Ryan Wesley Routh Sunday afternoon the “highest profile stop” in the agency’s history. Snyder gave his deputies high praise for stopping the suspect without incident.

Footage of Routh being apprehended Sunday afternoon was released Monday by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

In the body camera footage, Routh’s hands are raised and a pink shirt is over his head as he’s taken into custody.

“I am thankful to the men and women of this sheriff’s department that put themselves in harm’s way,” said Snyder.

All of this unfolded shortly after what the FBI calls an apparent assassination attempt on former President’s Trump life. Snyder says solid communication with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office played a pivotal role in locating the suspect fast.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said Sunday that a witness was able to take a photo of the suspect’s fleeing SUV and its license plate.

Following a second assassination attempt on President Trump, America First Legal (AFL) launched investigations into the Biden-Harris Administration’s records regarding Ryan Wesley Routh.

Routh, a convicted felon, was charged in U.S. District Court with two gun crimes. Routh is a political partisan who reportedly “hates Trump” — he has reportedly called on Iran to assassinate the former President and has claimed that the former President is a threat to “democracy.” Notably, Routh repeatedly traveled to Ukraine and very publicly recruited Afghan and other volunteers for the Ukraine Foreign Legion, a ground unit of the Ukrainian Army.

FBI Tipped Off In 2019 About Suspected Trump Gunman Ryan Wesley Routh’s Firearm Possession, Agency Says

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confirmed Monday that they received a tip in 2019 about the man who allegedly intended on shooting former President Donald Trump.

The FBI revealed that they have investigated Ryan Wesley Routh, a 58-year-old convicted felon, in 2019 following a tip about his possession of a firearm, as announced during a press conference by special agent in charge Jeffrey Veltri of the Miami FBI field office.

The tip surfaced while Routh was residing in Hawaii, but the allegations could not be substantiated after the complainant denied providing the initial information and the FBI subsequently relayed these findings to local law enforcement in Honolulu.

“I can also share with you that he was the subject of a previously closed 2019 tip to the FBI where it was alleged he was a felon in possession of a firearm,” Veltri said. “And following up on the tip, the alleged complainant was interviewed and did not verify, I repeat, did not verify providing the initial information.”

The New York Post cited sources that indicate the gunfire was not aimed at Trump but involved two others who police are tracking.

But CNN reported: "Officials believe the shots fired at Trump International Golf Club were intended for former President Donald Trump, according to sources familiar on the matter."

The former president was departing from the Trump International Club when people nearby heard gunshots fired, according to multiple sources.

Other sources say police and federal officers have set up additional security for Trump near to his Mar-a-Lago compound in Palm Beach.

Secret Service on top of it and have the alleged shooter in custoday, Ryan Wesley Routh.
