Trump & Trump Organization sues the IRS for $10billion

Trump Sues IRS for $10B Over Tax Leaks

President Donald Trump, his two eldest sons and his family business sued the Internal Revenue Service and the U.S. Treasury Department over alleged leaks of their confidential tax information, court records showed Thursday.

The plaintiffs seek at least $10 billion in damages, according to the lawsuit in Miami federal court. The case has been assigned to Judge Kathleen Williams, who was appointed to the U.S. district court bench by former President Barack Obama.

In August, Williams issued a temporary injunction that halted further expansion of the federal government’s Florida immigrant detention facility known as “Alligator Alcatraz,” effectively shutting it down. A federal appeals court later blocked Williams’ ruling.

The civil complaint filed Thursday alleges that the IRS and Treasury failed in their obligation to prevent the leak of those tax records by former IRS employee Charles “Chaz” Littlejohn in 2019 and 2020 who worked under Biden.

A spokesman for Trump’s legal team told CNBC in a statement, “The IRS wrongly allowed a rogue, politically-motivated employee to leak private and confidential information about President Trump, his family, and the Trump Organization to the New York Times, ProPublica and other left-wing news outlets, which was then illegally released to millions of people.”

The suit was filed three days after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he had canceled all of his department’s contracts with the consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton in connection with the company’s contractor, Littlejohn, stealing and leaking confidential tax returns.

Littlejohn, 40, is serving a five-year prison sentence after having pleaded guilty in October 2023 to one count of disclosure of tax return information.

Littlejohn’s acts were described by one federal prosecutor, as “one of the most serious crimes in the IRS’s history,” and the federal judge who sentenced Littlejohn described it as “an intolerable attack on our constitutional democracy.”

Sorry, Hunter

Judge dismisses motions from Hunter Biden in criminal tax case

Earlier this year, Hunter Biden filed a slew of motions regarding the criminal tax charges brought against him by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

Yet in a move sure to disappoint the White House, all eight Biden's motions were denied this week by the judge overseeing his case.

This included the motion calling for Special Counsel David Weiss' dismissal on the grounds that his appointment was unlawful.

"The Court concludes that Special Counsel Weiss is lawfully funded through the indefinite appropriation, and the Appropriations Clause has not been violated," Scarsi wrote.

What's more, Scarsi concluded that there does not "seem to be any evidence" that federal prosecutors were influenced in their decisions by pressure from Republicans aside from the timeline involved.

Judge Mark Scarsi's decision

In an 82-page order, U.S. District Judge Mark Scarsi rejected all eight motions filed by Biden's legal team, which relied on various legal arguments in asking him to throw out the entire indictment or at least specific counts.

Corrupt IRS employee gets five years in Federal Prison

Ex IRS Contractor Who Leaked Trump's Tax Returns Receives Sentence

Charles Littlejohn, an ex-IRS contractor, just got hit with a five-year prison sentence. His crime? Leaking former President Trump's tax returns.

Also, he leaked the returns of hundreds of billionaires to the New York Times like Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk.

On Monday, Judge Ana Reyes didn't hold back. She blasted the leak as "an intolerable attack on our constitutional democracy." Littlejohn's not just facing jail time. He's got 36 months of supervised release and a $5,000 fine waiting for him too.

Judge Reyes had a point to make. "Democracy dies in darkness," she said. "But it also dies in lawlessness." She reminded everyone that Trump had no duty to show his returns. There were other legal ways to challenge him.

Trump's Tax Returns

‘Power to Embarrass, Harrass, or Destroy Americans’

Because of our tax laws, Trump's reported negative income in four of the six years covered by the documentation and paid around $1.8 million in taxes

When the Democrat-led panel earlier released preliminary information about the Trumps’ tax returns, Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas), the top Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee, opposed the move and argued that the information contained in such disclosures could be spun by political foes.

But of course, that's exactly what it's about...to take out Donald Trump who lost millions in income during his presidency. He didn't even take the presedential salary.

“It’s the power to embarrass, harass, or destroy Americans through disclosure of their tax returns,” Brady said moments before the committee went into a closed session for a vote. “After nearly half a century, the political enemies list is back in Washington, D.C., and we worry this will unleash a cycle of political retribution in Congress,” Brady added.

“The ‘Trump’ tax returns once again show how proudly successful I have been and how I have been able to use depreciation and various other tax deductions as an incentive for creating thousands of jobs and magnificent structures and enterprises,” the former president added.

Trump's Tax Returns

House committee votes to release Trump’s tax returns

Ways and Means and all other anti-Trump members of committees releasing reports before Republicans take over House

The motion approved by all 24 Democrats on the committee, and voted against by all 16 Republicans on the panel, will reportedly pave the way for the release of the returns to the entire House of Representatives.

The JCT said it could not determine if Trump should have paid more or less taxes, citing a lack of investigatory power to demand documents from Trump and his businesses and to seek interviews with IRS agents assigned to audit Trump.

“I think we need to leave that to the tax folks,” committee Chairman Rep. Richard Neal (D-Mass) said when asked by reporters if he saw any red flags in Trump’s taxes.
