Trump pulls American B-1 bombers from UK after threat hits British air base

President Trump ordered U.S. B-1 bombers out of Britain after a direct threat to RAF Fairford, tying the swift pullback to a suspected Iran-linked terror plot under investigation.

President Donald Trump said he made the call to remove the heavy bombers from the British air base after authorities uncovered a threat to the installation itself. At least a dozen B-1s left RAF Fairford in recent days and flew home to bases in the United States.

ABC News reported that the aircraft had been operating from the Gloucestershire base used to launch strikes against Iran, and that Trump linked their departure to a suspected plot still under review by British counterterrorism police.

The move was not subtle. Photos and video from Oct. 4 showed B-1s taxiing and taking off from Fairford as the redeployment wrapped up. Trump addressed the decision Monday as he left the White House.
“We know who made the threat,” Trump told reporters. He did not name the source of the threat in that exchange and said he could not detail its nature.

Vice President JD Vance framed the pullback as a deliberate security step. He pointed to Iran’s long record and said the administration was not taking chances with American aircrews or aircraft sitting forward in Europe.

Vance described the bomber movement as coming “out of an abundance of caution.” He went further on the adversary he believes sits behind the pattern.
