Mamdani backs off arresting 'war criminal' Netanyahu

Urges Trump admin to arrest him instead

The New York mayor accused the Israeli prime minister of genocide and appealed to Washington to execute an international arrest warrant, one day after President Donald Trump guaranteed Netanyahu would not be arrested in the U.S.

Mamdani said his administration had examined every legal avenue for enforcing the ICC warrant if Netanyahu visits New York for the United Nations General Assembly in September. City lawyers ultimately concluded that New York could not act independently.

The mayor claimed that federal authorities do have the necessary power and called on the U.S. government to join the ICC and execute its warrant. Neither the U.S. nor Israel is a party to the Rome Statute, the treaty that established the court, and the U.S. is therefore not obligated to carry out ICC warrants.

Mamdani’s statement came one day after Trump categorically rejected the possibility that the Israeli leader would be detained on American soil.

“Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form, while in the United States of America,” Trump wrote July 20, as Zeale News reported.

Mamdani Can't Arrest Netanyahu. But He Is Targeting All Jews.

On Saturday, the mayor of New York said the prime minister of the Jewish state belongs in a jail cell. Zohran Mamdani told the New York Times that Benjamin Netanyahu "belongs in the Hague." 

He called him "a war criminal who has been charged by the International Criminal Court," and confirmed that his administration is working out whether it can arrest the Israeli leader when he comes to New York for the United Nations in September.

Netanyahu's office answered on Sunday. The ICC is "a kangaroo court that has no jurisdiction over Americans or Israelis," it said, and the warrant is "bogus."

A mayor cannot arrest a foreign head of government, and Mamdani knows it. He said so himself in the next breath, promising he "won't be writing our own laws." The warrant he wants to serve comes from a court his own party's president called outrageous, and it was written by a prosecutor the court is voting to remove this week. Of every leader on earth, he reached for the one who runs the world's only Jewish state.

The United States is not a member of the ICC. A mayor cannot arrest a prime minister.

Foreign leaders who come to New York for the United Nations are protected by the 1947 treaty that lets the U.N. operate on American soil. A sitting head of government carries immunity. And a city has no power to override the federal government on foreign affairs, which is why the whole idea falls apart the moment anyone reads the law.

Even his own party sees it. Fetterman called the threat a stunt: "He's just a clown 🤡 to even say that.

Clooney, a renowned human rights lawyer, was named as one of the six legal experts who helped British prosecutor Karim Khan come to the decision, announced today, to seek warrants for Netanyahu, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, as well as three Hamas leaders.

Clooney, who is married to Hollywood legend George Clooney, revealed that she had been asked to help Khan evaluate the evidence of alleged war crimes in Gaza and Israel four months ago.

Republican Lawmakers Face Off Against International Criminal Court

Republican lawmakers are upping their public campaign against the International Criminal Court (ICC) in light of reports the former is considering issuing arrest warrants for Israel officials.

The ICC is an international tribunal designed to prosecute individuals for the international crimes of Genocide, Crimes Against Humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression.

Neither the US nor Israel accept the jurisdiction of the ICC, which has been accepted by 124 states.

ICC prosecutor Karim Ahmad Khan has been investigating Israeli and Hamas actions in Palestinian Territories.

US Representative Brian Mast (R-FL) joined Representatives Chip Roy (R-TX), Elise Stefanik (R-NY) and 23 other Republican Representatives to introduce legislation imposing sanctions on the ICC.

“Our legislation sends a clear message to the International Criminal Court,” said Representative Mast. “We may not recognize you, but you sure as hell will recognize what happens when you target America or its allies.”

Igor Salikov says Russia committed War Crimes

Man Claiming To Be Russian Defector Offers War Crimes To ICC

A Russian national claiming to be a former officer with the Wagner mercenary group arrived in the Netherlands on December 18 claiming to have evidence for the International Criminal Court’s investigation of Russian war crimes in Ukraine, the Associated Press reported.

The Dutch news program EenVandaag spoke via video link with Russian Igor Salikov, who has reportedly applied for asylum in the Netherlands.

Salikov told EenVandaag that in 2014, he was in eastern Ukraine both when Russia annexed Crimea and during the February 2022 Russian invasion. He claimed to know “where the orders came from.”

His claims can not be verified.
