Guantanamo Bay

Comment Up

The Guantanamo Bay detention camp, according to Wikipedia, is a detainment and interrogation facility of the United States military located within Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba. The facility was established in January 2002 by the Bush Administration to hold detainees it had determined to be connected with opponents in the Global War on Terror including Afghanistan and later Iraq, the Horn of Africa and Southeast Asia. It is operated by the Joint Task Force Guantanamo (JTF-GTMO) of the United States government in Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, which fronts on in Cuba.

Over 5 years ago while in campaign mode, Obama promised its closure. Now he is still spouting the same old rhetoric, afraid of negative international opinion, and recently said, “I think it is critical for us to understand that Guantánamo is not necessary to keep America safe. It is expensive. It is inefficient. ... It is a recruitment tool for extremists. It needs to be closed.” Actually, it is an unfulfilled campaign and presidential policy that will be his legacy.

Besides getting Qurans and other special requests fulfilled, the terrorists housed there now say that they don't want their genitals searched for contraband such as nails, shanks, ballpoint pens and even an MP3 player that was discovered. They're special, I guess. They are terrorist enemies and now  demand "rights" while incarcerated. A federal judge sided with them saying it violated their religious rights. Gimme a break!  Recently they went on a hunger strike.

It's at the point where we should ask if we ever should throw captured terrorists in a military prison or just let them escape to kill again...or why are we in wars to begin with?  We could just throw up our arms and surrender to these criminals.   Daqduq, photo above, had been in U.S. military custody in Iraq since 2007 for his involvement in a carefully orchestrated plot that killed, kidnapped and tortured American military officers and then was freed after Obama refused to send him to Guantanamo. He was released by Iraq to go out and kill Americans again.
