In the high-stakes chess game of international politics, alliances often prove as fragile as a house of cards when economic interests are threatened. As tensions escalate in the Middle East following President Trump’s decisive strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities this weekend, Tehran’s retaliatory threats have revealed just how quickly allegiances can shift.

Iran’s Parliament recently endorsed a provocative measure to close the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway between Iran and Oman that serves as a critical choke point for global oil shipments. Approximately 20% of the world’s oil consumption flows through this maritime corridor daily.

For China, which has positioned itself as Iran’s staunch ally, the threat poses an acute dilemma. Chinese imports from Iran surpassed 1.8 million barrels per day last month, creating a dependency that the Trump administration was quick to recognize.

It was Secretary of State Marco Rubio who made the strategic move, directly challenging Beijing to rein in its ally during a Sunday interview on Fox News.

He asked, “Why are you crying?!”
“It is not your government! It is not your country! He has no reason to give you anything!”

DeSantis to embark on International Trade Mission

Gov. DeSantis announces international trade mission trip with visits to Japan, South Korea, Israel, and U.K.

Amid the speculation about a potential 2024 presidential bid by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), one of the more consistent knocks against him has been the claim from detractors that he lacks sufficient foreign policy experience to lead the entire nation on the global stage.

Now, in a move that may substantially undermine that particular critique, DeSantis has announced plans to soon leave the U.S. on an international trip that will include visits with four of America’s top allies in Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, Breitbart reported.

Those four nations are Japan, South Korea, Israel, and the United Kingdom, and the purpose of those visits will be to bolster and expand bilateral trade and tourism between those countries and the Sunshine State.

Sometimes we don't know who the enemy really is. We spread ourselves all over the globe in places that we can't make a difference and end up spending billions from our Treasury doing it as well as thousands of American lives. Our government does the damndest things. Last week there was a talk at the Lake Worth Democratic Club West on Obama Friend or Foe to Israel. I don't know how that turned out but I can well imagine. Take Syria as an example--

"Egyptian security officials, however, outlined to WND and what they said was that there is large-scale international backing for the rebels attacking the embattled regime of Assad – including arms and training from the Turkey, Jordan and Saudi Arabia being coordinated with the U.S. We're not just talking about small guns here--anti-tank weaponry is included in the mix.

When I think about Sears, the year 1974 comes to mind. This is the first store where I ever applied for a credit card in my own name. I was recently divorced and needed to establish credit. I shopped there all of the time and loved the store at the Palm Beach Mall. I charged $50.00 and Sears wanted me to make monthly payments of $10.00 until I paid it off. They wanted to see if I paid my bills in a timely fashion. Two months later, I paid it off. I never got a credit card from Sears. I then went out and applied to American Express and got a credit card with no hassles.

I later worked indirectly for a Sears owned company, Coldwell Banker. They bought out Previews, Inc. in Palm Beach. It was never again the same. They had no conception of a boutique real estate company that marketed high end properties all over the world. They were still in the mindset of middle America and its wants.

Sears merged with K-Mart in 2005 and became Sears Holding Corporation. The early pioneers of the company had a pulse on the consumer. It had the best mail order catalog in the country, something that started in the late 1800's and is what grew its retail business. They began to diversify in the 1930's and bought Allstate and it established major national brands. Later on, they changed the way in which they paid their employees from an hourly wage based on longevity, to a base wage (usually anywhere from $3.50 to $6 per hour) and commissions ranging from 1% to 11%. This new base wage implemented in 1992, was done "to be successful in this highly competitive environment." Sears sold its Sears Tower and moved its headquarters which had been its identity for nearly 20 years.

Quality, inventory, service and price are requisites for success. Somehow Sears' decisions along the way failed or perhaps it is just a victim of our recessive economy. Some say they are not concentrating on their core businesses but rather concentrating on financial trades. Too bad. I hope it can get back to its roots as it has been around since 1893.

Muammar Gaddafi’s Ukrainian nurse tells The Daily Beast’s Anna Nemtsova she’s devastated by the ex-Libyan dictator's death and considers him a “brave hero.” The nurse, Oksana Balinskaya, went to work for Gaddafi at the age of 21 and cared for him until last February, when she returned to Ukraine. Balinskaya says she has “only warm feelings for him” and is sad “nobody was next to him on his last day.”

It is estimated that the U.S. has spent up to at least $1 billion to take Gaddafi out. Global Public Square says: The exact amount the U.S. has spent in Libya to-date has not been released. Yet, according to the Pentagon, the cost through July 31 was $896 million. If costs have been sustained (about $6.6 million a day) then the total now would be $1.05 billion.

Street Painting Festival in Southend, England

On July 16, Southend, England will have its first Street Painting Festival. International artists will be painting, even from the United States. This event was inspired by our very own Street Painting Festival here in Lake Worth and others around the globe.

Anna Heim is the International Projects Director of Cultural Exchange Group, Three-Way-Split, which sees Lake Worth, Sopot, Poland and Southend, England as a partnership for cultural exchange. After Vice Mayor Suzanne Mulvehill mentioned our festival, she came and visited Lake Worth to witness it first-hand, a painting festival that has been around for 17 years and known as the largest in the country.

Westcliff, a superb of Southend that is situated on the northern bank of the Thames Estuary and about 34 miles east of London, anticipates "hordes of tourists" to visit its first event. All of us in Lake Worth wish you success.

Even by Juarez standards, a deadly 72 hours

Fifty-three people were killed in a 72-hour span in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, making it one of the deadliest three-day periods in recent memory, state attorney general's office spokesman Arturo Sandoval told CNN Sunday.

Among the dead were four police officers from three different agencies, Sandoval said. "This is the worst violence we've seen this year," he said, referring to the three days from Thursday through Saturday. The bloodshed started on Thursday with 14 people killed, including a municipal police officer

I hate what's going on in the Mid-East especially in Cairo. Anarchists now set fire to the Museum that houses antiquities that are thousands of years old. The artifacts of King Tut are stored there.

Mubarek has changed the government and has told the people that he will not run again. That's not enough for some people who are acting like mad dogs in heat. Even if you side with the younger population there (1/2 of Egypt's population is under the age of 25), the destruction must stop now. They are losing any sympathy with me. Egypt can move forward but not in this way.
