Investigations Show Hangings Cited by AOC and Pressley Were Suicides, Not ‘Modern-Day Lynchings’

Nothing poisons public discourse quite like an elected official who weaponizes the gravest accusations in American history for cheap political points.

When members of Congress invoke lynching – a word drenched in generations of real suffering and real blood – they carry a solemn obligation to deal in verified facts. That’s not a high bar. It’s the bare minimum.

Yet progressive politicians keep treating racial tragedy like a campaign resource. The grieving families, the dead – they become set dressing for a narrative that serves nobody except the lawmakers pushing it. And somehow, despite getting caught over and over again, the playbook never changes. This week delivered another prime example.

Pressley kick-started the panic on social media, writing that “black folks are being found hanged” and comparing the deaths to Jim Crow-era “strange fruit hanging from trees.”

AOC piled on shortly after, boasting about signing Pressley’s letter and declaring: “This year, there have already been 10 reported hangings of Black people in the U.S.” She branded the deaths “widespread modern-day lynchings” and “racial terror.”

“Most high-profile cases of Black people found hanging in 2025-26 were ruled suicides by medical examiners and police, with no evidence of foul play.”
