Gangs may be using rideshare apps to smuggle people into country, Border Patrol says

EL PASO, Texas - Gangs might be using rideshare apps to help smuggle people into the country, according to officials.

What we know:
Agents with the El Paso sector of the U.S. Border Patrol said the criminal organizations appear to be using legitimate apps to shield themselves from law enforcement. They often use third-party accounts to arrange pickups in secluded locations, remote highways near the border wall or some commercial parking lots.

What they're saying:
"Cartel criminal smugglers recklessly endanger the lives of rideshare drivers and passengers alike, treating legitimate drivers as disposable tools for their smuggling operations," said El Paso Sector Chief Patrol Agent Jesse D. Munoz. "When these trips are intercepted, drivers face immediate detention and asset forfeiture while federal agents investigate their level of involvement in the smuggling network."

What you can do:
Border Patrol said rideshare drivers should watch for passengers wearing heavily soiled clothes, bookings that exceed vehicle occupancy limits or passengers who appear stressed and unaware of their location.

Drivers could be charged with felony charges of alien smuggling and harboring if convicted of participating in the smuggling network, according to Border Patrol. {U.S. Customes and Border Protection]

The Sunshine State is also an opportunity to enter the United States. And a China expert sounded the alarm on this horrible threat Florida is facing.

A wealthy suburb of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida, was the site of two busts by police of box trucks filled with illegal aliens from China over the span of two weeks earlier this year.

The Chinese illegal aliens arrived in Florida via boat after they were smuggled in from the Bahamas.

China expert Gordan Chang warned the incidents could be tied to the growing influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in the Caribbean. Chang pointed out that most of the Chinese illegal aliens were military-age males traveling alone.

“Border Patrol has noticed that in some of these packs, they’re coming across in packs between 4 and 15, that everybody in the pack has an identical kit,” Chang stated. “That is an ominous sign.”

Mississippi Attorney Arrested After Being Caught Smuggling Contraband To Murder Suspects

A Mississippi attorney is in hot water after attempting to smuggle a shocking amount of drugs, electronics and other forbidden items in a silver brief case during a visitation session to detainees Antonio Harness Jr and Marcell Cornelius Martin, identified by affidavits. Both detainees are being held on unrelated murder charges.

Law enforcement caught him handing a cell phone and a brown envelope to Martin and Harness, whom he claimed were clients — though his relationship with the murder suspects remains unclear, as different outlets have stated he falsely presented himself as legal counsel.

Dale was allegedly posing as legal counsel for a number of Hinds County detainees when police allegedly caught him with the contraband, which included cell phones, cigarettes, chargers, blunt wraps and what appears to be cannabis, according to Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones. Prosecutors charged Dale with two counts of conspiracy and three counts of introduction of contraband to a correctional facility.

Dale apparently appeared to be soaking wet in a gray suit and loosened tie after police arrested and took a picture of him. It is unclear how Dale allegedly stashed the contraband on his person when entering the jail considering the sheer volume of products police said they found him with.

Besides his suit presumably covered in sweat in his initial mugshot, the 49 year old attorney had a crazed look, with his eyes bulging, raising more questions about his own mental state.

U.S. Coast Guard seized 2,350 pounds of cocaine off Florida

US Coast Guard Offloads $32 Million Worth of Cocaine Near Florida

The two separate seizures, which took place in international waters of the Caribbean Sea, totaled 2,450 pounds of cocaine and led to arrests according to a statement by the United States Coast Guard following the incident.

Coast Guard says more than 2,450 pounds of cocaine, valuing approximately $32.2 million, were seized by the crew of Coast Guard Cutter Margaret Norvell in Miami, the U.S. Coast Guard said Tuesday.

Taken into custody were six suspected smugglers, who now face prosecution by the Department of Justice in federal court.

Two PBSO corrections deputies resign after pleading to bringing drugs into main county jail

Two Palm Beach County corrections deputies implicated in allegations of smuggling drugs into the Palm Beach County Jail's main detention center have resigned, according to internal Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office documents.

They were two of three corrections deputies named in alleged smuggling operations that involved bringing drugs into the jail, which is located off Gun Club Road in suburban West Palm Beach. The third one has plead "not guilty."

Investigators monitored phone calls between an inmate and an outside party, with the conversations revealing code words that indicated the involvement of a law-enforcement officer in a drug operation, a PBSO report said.

Deputy Karl Kirkland, 58, submitted an affidavit to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and so did Deputy Samuel Pierre, 30.
