President Biden calls all Trump supporters ‘garbage’

President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that supporters of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump are “garbage” for backing such an “unconscionable” candidate.

The president’s remarks came after insult comic Tony Hinchcliffe made a joke about Puerto Rico being an island of “floating garbage“ during a Trump rally at Madison Square Garden. While numerous conservative Puerto Ricans came forward to say they were not offended by the joke, Democratic operatives claimed it was malicious and tied it to Trump.

Puerto Ricans are “good, decent, honorable people,” Biden said in response to the controversy during a Zoom call with Voto Latino. “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters.”

Trump’s “demonization” is “unconscionable,” Biden added. “And it’s un-American.”

House Passes Bill Giving Puerto Rico the Right to Determine Its Own Future

On Thursday, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 8393, the Puerto Rico Status Act, which would allow Puerto Rico to hold the first-ever binding referendum on whether to become a state or gain some sort of independence. The bill passed with 233 votes in favor and 191 votes against, with the majority of votes coming from the Democratic side and some support from Republicans.

The bill would provide Puerto Ricans with three options: statehood, independence, or independence with free association. If the option of statehood was chosen, then the Congress would commit to accept Puerto Rico into the United States as the 51st state. If the option of independence was chosen, then the terms of foreign affairs, U.S. citizenship, and use of the U.S. dollar would be defined following negotiations.

The bill now goes to the split Senate, where it faces a ticking clock before the end of the year and Republican lawmakers who have long opposed statehood. It's uncertain whether the bill will pass in the Senate, but the vote in the House marks an important step towards the potential of Puerto Rico deciding its own future and possibly becoming the 51st state of the Union. “I ask all Puerto Ricans who are listening to go vote,” Vázquez Garced said during an interview with Telemundo on Monday. “They have to go to vote, exercise their right to vote and evaluate who has represented being a person who thinks about Puerto Ricans and their needs at the most difficult moment. It is Donald Trump.”

Vázquez Garced has served as Puerto Rico’s governor since Aug. 2019. She was set to appear at a Trump campaign rally in Florida last week prior to the president’s announcement that he had tested positive for coronavirus. It’s unclear when Trump will be able to return to the campaign trail.

I always love it when people "demand."  People come to our country counting on our generosity for  basic welfare.

Last year, Florida had 32,190 homeless. Other than California and New York, we are about number three in the country for the most homeless.

In 2016, even the City of Lake Worth passed an ordinance that essentially criminalized the homeless, chasing them out of city owned property after dark. The Trio of Maxwell, Triolo and Amoroso passed the seven-page ordinance with Maxwell saying, "It doesn’t use the word 'homeless' even once.". They even went so far as to play classical music at the Cultural Plaza, driving the homeless nuts..

After hurricane Maria, "tens of thousands of Puerto Ricans quit jobs and raced to Florida, transforming cities across the state. It's the largest migration ever from the Caribbean island, already surpassing the one after World War II.[NBC News]

But you can bet that Democrats will make an issue out of this if Rick Scott doesn't come up with a solution and give these displaced Puerto Ricans affordable housing paid for by FEMA or some other government entity. They are worried about homelessness.

Puerto Ricans fleeing to Florida

The numbers reveal stark changes are sure to be ahead. Puerto Rico has seen an amazing 6 percent of its population flee to become mainland residents since the storm.

And this study/graph was done in September 2017. Florida has been the overwhelming choice for new settlers -- 43 percent of those relocating have arrived here, compared to the second-favorite location, New  York City, at just 9 percent. Florida alone has taken in over 150,000 new Puerto Ricans in that time.[SunshineStateNews]

The Center for Puerto Rican Studies at New York's Hunter College estimates that between 114,000 and 213,000 people will leave the island in 2018, with the vast majority headed for Florida.

Can we please stop this politically correct stuff?  All this liberal anti-Trump rhetoric has no place at city hall. Lake Worth, a poor city in its own right, should not be sending money to Puerto Rico.. Leave it to the federal government that was on the ground in Puerto Rico prior to the storm and had everything planned in anticipation of the hurricane's arrival.

This storm is costing the federal government billions. Democratic socialists just love to have feel good causes spending tax dollars--other people's money. $25,000 is just a PC token in the scheme of things to make our commissioners feel better. It would be better served right here in Lake Worth.

Commissioner Herman Robinson was not in favor of taking city money. Commissioner Amoroso thought it best to spend our money right here. Vice Mayor Scott Maxwell asked whether we were setting a precedent. The Mayor wanted to split the money and give to all the disaster areas. Commissioner Hardy was very persuasive and got his way. The commission all agreed to send $25,000 for Puerto Rican aid and has left it up to the city manager to figure out where it will go.

Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert  said that the reports that the federal response has been slow, blamed "misreporting."
