The numbers reveal stark changes are sure to be ahead. Puerto Rico has seen an amazing 6 percent of its population flee to become mainland residents since the storm.
And this study/graph was done in September 2017. Florida has been the overwhelming choice for new settlers -- 43 percent of those relocating have arrived here, compared to the second-favorite location, New York City, at just 9 percent. Florida alone has taken in over 150,000 new Puerto Ricans in that time.[SunshineStateNews]The Center for Puerto Rican Studies at New York's Hunter College estimates that between 114,000 and 213,000 people will leave the island in 2018, with the vast majority headed for Florida.
